barely experienced shotgun shooter here. got some 2 3/4 12ga buckshot from walmart in OO and it is only 9 pelets instead of 12. curious if there will be reduced recoil, if so notcieable. I haven't had problems shooting high power guns in hte past, just curious

In my experience youll hardly notice the difference between 9 or 12. Switch to a 3" slug and thats another story.

The difference is minimal... reason being that the 9 pellets from one will leave the barrel with greater velocity than the 12 from the other will.

Just different loads as different tools for different jobs. The 9-pellet loads are generally more accurate, and due to higher velocity will be effective for a longer range... the 12 pellet would be good for a close-up need to fill something with lead quickly.

All depends .. I 've got a bunch of Nobel Sport LE 00 with 12 pellet. I'm not at home to see what the box claims on fps, but those babies are POWERFUL. 2 3/4" shells, but they feel like 3 1/2. Really cringe to shoot the dang things. Has to be some very concentrated powder in there.

I run 3" 000 Buck primarily... it sucks, even through a semi-auto.

My personal favorite, although I shoot a pump :tough:

I was once dared to shoot five 12 ga. 3" slugs through a pistol-grip pump one-handed. I did it, but my left hand trembled for three days! I've never been accused of being too bright.

I can't speak for buck shot from a 3.5" mag but the Lightfield slugs hurt bad even with a limbsaver recoil pad . I use 3.5" for turkey hunting . The first time I shot the gun I didn't hold the forearm well enough and it jumped out of my left hand and made my right hand hit me and broke my nose . If you haven't shot a 3.5" you oughta try it at least once .If you don't know someone with one just have a friend hit you in the shoulder with a sledge hammer same difference.

Ballistics lightfield 3.5" slugs

600gr .78cal

velocity @muzzle 1890 fps

energy @ muzzle 4759 ft lbs

I know this tread is about the ammo ,but if you use a Knoxx anti/recoil pistol grip or stock, you can shoot anything without too much pain, I regulerly shoot 3inch buck & slugs through my mossberg with no pain..

I just read up on the Knoxx stock. I will probably get one for my 870 HD gun.

I used to have one...they are worth every penny...one of the few recoil reducing accessories that actually lives up to the hype.

Yep. I pretty much finished my research, and I'm gonna break down and do it. There's a really nice Hogue stock on it now, but the gun was bought for buck shot. I have a Browning Silver for feathered critters.

In stock at Midway.

knox stock. never heard of. will have to check out. that 9 pell 00BK is a real shoulder beater, even though I shot 7 or 8 rounds(28"barrel) and 8 rnd on 7.62x54r before that
