Finding a Rifle Range?

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am looking for a range that allows me to shoot long guns (rifle or shotgun) in Middle TN, preferrably near Murfreesborro but anywhere around Nashville is better than nothing.

Other than the outdoor range on the TWRA's site (which I need to check out), I can't find much of anything. Am I not searching correctly? Or is there really not much of any place to go shoot? Do I need to just find a friend with a farm?

Thanks!

Yeah, I don't know why ranges are so hard to find around here (Murfreesboro).

You've got Terry Walden's range, just of exit 114 on I24 (Manchester) He has a 300yd rifle range. It's a bit scrappy & you'll need to pace off your targets (unless you only shoot at 300) but it's $5 for all you can shoot. Bring your own target stands too.

There's also Viola, if you don't mind coming a little further south. It's a better setup range than Terry's, but you've only got 100yds to play with (IIRC) There are berms laid out at 25, 50 & 100yds with railroad-tie butts for your targets. All the benches are under cover. $6 for the day.

Second to robtattoo's sugestions if you don't mind coming southeast. PM for directions to Walden's Range. "Scrappy" is a good word for it but it has a separate pistol range and rifle spots are covered with build-in benches. Has installed target rests now and sells targets. It's less than 10 miles from exit 114.

CHMR (AKA Charlie's Place, AKA Owl Hollow) is just outside of Spring Hill. It's about 10 minutes away from the 840/I-65 interchange. If you're on the north or west side of Murfreesboro, then it may be closer than Walden's.CHMR

$40 for an annual membership then you can shoot all day every day that it's open. Closed Thursdays and the first full weekend of a month. It has a handgun area and rifle targets spaced at 25, 50, and 100 yrds. There are a couple of spring-loaded clay throwers for shotgunning and the last I heard a 200yrd range was in the works.

There's a 200-yard TWRA range on Hobson pike between Loo-vern and Mt Juliet. There's a 400-yard range near Southside, between Clarksville and Ashland City.

I'm not exactly sure where it is, but I have been told there is an outdoor range in Woodbury; I think the name is the OK Corral. It is supposed to have pistol and rifle areas.

Thanks guy, I am going to do some searching on each of these when it's not 12:30am :-)

Since the OK Corral in Woodbury would be closest to me, I googled it now and found a short video of the facilities.

One other question, as the only time I've shot at an actual rifle range (not indoor pistol caliber range) was with a friend's dad when I was younger and we had no shotguns with us. So the question is, can I shoot a shotgun at outdoor pistol ranges? I would assume so, but just verifying.

Also in the gravel, are you supposed to pick up your brass or can you leave it? (I'll probably collect mine if there's not too much there already)

Thanks!
