Colt Woodsman

I've had this for several years, thought I'd show it off, I have gotten several conflicting opinions on it. The original owner claimed it was from 1936, issued at the Navl Academy in Annapolis.  Shoots great, makes even me look good on the range.

Yep, I shoot it quite a bit, like I said it makes me look better than I really am. I got probably 2k of .22 ammo, but I've heard it was getting scarce. 22's are allot of fun and I figure that's why it's disappearing off the shelf like it is, not to mention all the preppers!

Here's a ton of info about them...   http://www.colt22.com/

Thanks peejman, I've researched it quite a bit there in the past. That guy sold off his collection but still a fantastic site. Mine is a good specimen, it's a MT157XXX serial number and 1 of about 4000 issued to the US Military and it's mostly correct. The stocks, while being correct in design, are walnut  and they should have been resin, so someone has replaced them... The magazine is correct, and the markings are all there as they should be.

i carry it to gun shows from time to time just for show and tell, have had several collectors look at it, Last year I had 2 cash offers of 1200 and one for 1600 in trades, it was funny to have one of the vendors ask to look at it and tell me that it was an obvious fake and pretty much worthless, offered to take it off my hands for 400... Folks like that bear watching.

Oh, by the way it has the high velocity markings indicative of the military version. In the 1st series military, looking at the rear of the grip is a group of horizontal lines, those indicate HV, a checkered pattern indicates LV. The later models have no markings there (IIRC).

I doubt that I'll ever sell or trade it, too much fun, I'll let the kids put it on here the day after I'm planted... But I intend to wear the blue off it!
