1951 Colt 1911 Lightweight Commander in 9mm

When down in TX this weekend for my 10 year high school reunion, I finally brought back a gun that was left to me by a grandfather who died when I was 2. I knew that it was a 1911 in 9mm, and that was about it. I called Colt today and found out that it was manufactured in 1951. It is a 15xxx-LW serial. I field stripped it, and it looks like it was literally filled with axle grease as lube. I plan on getting it cleaned up and it will probably be a safe queen due to the family history. Here are a couple of pictures.

Clean that up, bring it back into service and give it a new life. It won’t take away from the family history and you can hand down a functioning 1911 to your son. thumbsup.gif

When I said Safe queen, I meant, it won't be a carry weapon. I plan on shooting it often when at the range. I just want to take my time in getting it spruced back up so that I don't accidentally screw it up.
