Sales tax on internet gun sales?

Recommended Posts

I did a search and could not find the answer. So here's my question. If I buy a modern gun off one of the auction sites, do I have to pay sales tax to the transfering dealer?
I remember hearing that the state was going to do that some time back. I haven't bought anything over the internet except C&Rs for quite a few years. I've found something I'm interested in on GB, but if I have to pay sales tax that would put it out of the budget.

It has always been the law that you owe the sales tax on any internet sale.  You are supposed to fill out the tax form and send in the correct sales tax voluntarily. No, dealers do not collect the sales tax unless they are pocketing it for themselves.

I suspect that if one of those forms ever shows up at the TN DoR, the clerk won't know what to do with it.

They may not know what to do with the form, but i can guarantee they will know what to do with the check. :D
