Bubba strikes again.

Bought a Mossberg 500 12g for CHEAP. Rough as a cob but the action is tight and it has a 20 inch smooth bore slug barrel with nice rifle sights. Well, Bubba tried to drill and tap the receiver with what I'm guessing to be one of those egg beater hand crank drills. It's BAD. Three screws broke off and a tap broke in the fourth. I got the crews out and had to use a punch to drive the tap fragment out.
All I wanna do is fill the holes and forget that happened. I thought of tapping them oversize and using filler screws but they are SO crooked...nahh, I'd rather hide it altogether. I'm gonna paint the whole gun so nows the time. I thought about JB weld, epoxy, fiberglass.....just fill it with globs on both sides, wait for full cure and grind it smooth letting the spray paint hide the filthy secret for good.
I just wonder about solvent and lube. An old Mossberg will run pretty much dry but it still needs a little something in there.

Put some marine epoxy, sand it smooth, and paint it.  I don't think any chemical you would ever use on it would affect the epoxy.  The paint would be my bigger concern.

FWIW, JB Weld is an epoxy...Hozzie is correct, any quality epoxy will be pretty chemically resistant. From experience in a past life, I could bore you to interesting tears carrying on about how cool epoxies are...

Surface prep is key for proper bond. As clean as you can get it and clean it once more. Apply epoxy. Once cured rough it up with and abrasives pad. This creates micro abrasions and increases the surface area for the topcoat to adhere to. Clean again and again. Apply topcoat - Again see Hozzie's post - the paint may be way less chemically and abrasion resistant that the epoxy weld. Follow mfg specs for mixing and working time. Worst case it works and has an obvious scar or it works and the cosmetic surgery went well. Edited June 12, 2015 by Gotthegoods
