best place to have rifles cleaned

Recommended Posts

be honest how much fun was that removing all that cosmoline? i know when i did my mosin back in 2012 it was fun and when i finally fired it this year did not have a single issue of sticky bolt or anything

I enjoyed it as well.  We all complain about cosmoline.  Other than that stench it isn't that bad.

What I really enjoyed was my new SKS.  Once I got all the cosmoline off the stock, I realized that they didn't sand the stock or put finish on it....must have been a little too much vodka the night before in Yugoslavia when they made it.

I was a bit miffed at first, but refinished the stock myself and I really enjoyed that.  I'm thinking about refinishing the laminate stock on my Mosin and it doesn't even need it.

Mosins were never packed in cosmoline, it's just grease.  Use standard cleaning methods, shoot it until the barrel is hot, clean again.  These rifles were designed to be used by illiterate Russian peasants, don't over-complicate the issue ...
