XD 45 Compact Opinions?

I've had my heart set on a XD .45 Compact in Bi-Tone for a while now and I'm about to order one from Range USA here in Memphis. They gave me a price of just under $550 plus tax and TICS and will give me range passes and etc. I love the feel of a .45 and have shot a buddy's XD .40 with a 4" barrell but that's the most experience I have with it.

Is there anything I am missing out on that would discourage my lust for this gun?

I have another gun I normally conceal so I'll wear this one when I'm not as concerned about concealment. (Home defense, four wheeler riding, wearing large bulky shirt etc.) Can someone recommend a good OWB holster?

(Yes, I will post pics when I get it.)

Only downsides I can think of right now are that, post-election, mags have been hard to come by, and I've heard that Springfield has raised prices on them ($30 per).

As for OWB holsters, I use the Blackhawk Serpa, which is available either in plain polymer or carbon fiber.

I've got three XD45s--two service, one tactical. Great pistols out of the box, all of them. The only model I haven't liked, though, is the compact. I'd rather have a full length grip, because it doesn't do much to decrease its concealability (probably a moot point in an OWB holster, anyway), it gives me better control when shooting, and it's much easier to find magazines for it. Of course, you could use the standard 13-round mags, but you'd probably want to find some grip sleeves for them (not just for cosmetic reasons, but because repeatedly slamming a bare full-length mag into the gun could damage the magazine catch or the feed lips).

I do like the idea that it comes with the 13 round clip and sleeve so I can get a full grip on it. Springfield has a "Gear Up" program going on through mid January that allows you to send in a copy of your receipt and they'll send you 2 extra mags and a clip holster. I don't know if they'd natuarlly send the 13 rounders though. I'd buy the sleeves if that's what they sent. (14-18 weeks on the turnaround they claim )

I love my XD's. Not much of a fan for the compact versions,, but that's more because I have large hands. I never really understood the whole full-size gun with a short grip thing myself. That's unless you have smaller hands, and even then, I'm not sure that would matter a whole lot.

As far as the XD line of guns go, I don't think you can go wrong. I love mine.

Thanks for the link!!

Does the extended (13 round) magazine provide for a full grip on the XD Compact? I mean a grip without your pinky hanging off. I assume it will have the same grip as the standard XD when you have the 13 round magazine in it with the sleeve????

Correct.

Same way that the XD 9/40 subcompact extended mags work. Although the sleeve (called "X-Tension" by SA) for the .45 mags only fit the .45.

I'll be going up there today to order it. I'm trying to decide on a good OWB holster now for my Christmas "stocking". Prefer OWB leather and not overly concerned about concealment. I've been looking at the Don Hume Double Nine. Any suggestions?
