It was "okay". Pretty short really, I'd call it a novelette/novella. Volume I had included another couple stories best I remember.

None of the three movies end like the book, although the first Vincent Price one comes the closest.

My assumption was more toward thinking about society breaking down, possible civil war or the US changing from a democracy to a dictatorship.  I don't view our society as stable to the point that those can't happen.  Also, I thought about being able to hunt.

In this scenario it would have to be my AR 15 since it can be concealed several ways, and I have more .223/.556 ammo.
