I would check my scales for accuracy. The biggest cal. I have reloaded was 338 win mag. and never had a problem like you have posted. I agree with Jonnin

I use Leupolds and Nikon but recently purchased a Burris. Check into Burris optics, for the money IMO are a good scope for every day operation.  Good Luck

In 2000 I was elk hunting around Pagosa Springs Co. We did a lot of walking, get a good set of hiking boots and break them in.  It was in mid Oct. no snow and the guides were wearing sneakers. The weather will dictate what to wear.  As far as gear carry as lite as possible, but have a lot of water.  If you are using horses good get use to riding before hand. Elk hunting is a great adventure. Good hunting and enjoy

I have both and used them for deer hunting no problem with either. If you reload the 308 has more of a range in bullet weights than the 270.  Reload for any type of hunting. Good Luck

I got my King Cobra 6" blue in the eightys. A great revolver. Use it as my Deer Hunting companion to this day.
