  1. I'm not pretending to be a lawyer, or advise anyone to do what I did... but reading the fine print on the ticket basically said that all they could do was increase the fee and/or ding my credit if I didn't pay. The alternative was to go to court or sign and mail a statement that I wasn't the one driving... as far as I am concerned I never confirmed or denied the allegation of the ticket, and I have no legal duty to respond to it. If they had dinged my credit or put a mark against my record I would/will report that... but so far my 'experiment' has resulted in zero backlash in the 3 years since receiving the notice in the mail. So, as far as I can see is that it's a revenue stream in the guise of official capacity, which has no teeth, and depends on its prey to voluntarily give up their money. It's almost like fraudulent e-mail spam from someone who has some of your personal info and is trying to bait you.
  2. Ethnicity, gender, etc.. are not choices to be legally discriminated against by a public business (albeit I don't know of any law which could prohibit you from posting such things on your private property, at least)... Choices though, such as having pets with you, or tattoos, a particular sexual preference, or any number of other voluntary practices (including possession of a weapon) certainly do not trump the choice of the property owner to not accept. It goes back to the question, who's 'choice' has the most weight? Well... it's the choice of the person who owns or controls the premises where you are. One question though, is whether it can be illegal for a man to enter a marked woman's restroom? It's generally 'posted' in a gender discriminating way, one could argue... but does that have the force of law? Before smoking in public buildings became illegal, were no-smoking signs legally enforceable, or would it be handled as tresspassing after you were asked to leave?
  3. I never paid mine... it's not legally enforceable. Hasn't shown up in the 3 years since, no problems renewing my license or when pulled over (even in the same city). They don't even stick as well as a parking ticket.
  4. It's true... a property owner has every right to disallow someone from being there for any reason, and their say trumps the visitor/patron's. I think the problem is when the law allows for a property owner to post a legally enforceable prohibition on a certain 'class' of people. For instance, it would be perfectly within a person's right to ask someone to leave because they don't like how they look, but totally another to post a sign stating "No Tattoos", which has the force of law. Such things should be handled on an individual basis, and fall under trespassing laws if the person refuses.

    New .45

Depends on what you are going to be using it for... For carry, I'd suggest the Colt Commander or a Sig 220 Carry SAO (the latter would be my preference, and that's what I voted for) For range/target/competition, I'd suggest any of the 1911s, or the M&P Longslide For SHTF/Home defense, it'd be hard to beat the Glock (that's what I use mine for, with an M3X attached) Sounds like you genuinely want the DW though... so treat yourself.
  6. Reeses Pieces, for sure.
  7. Welcome back!
  8. No confusion... It's not a legal duty to flee, but it's certainly the prudent thing to do if you have the opportunity, if the threat is not yet 'imminent'. Why wait for a potential threat to become an actual threat if you can possibly avoid it? I'm not looking for a reason to use my gun, but I certainly do not want a law requiring me to flee either... my common sense should be enough to guide me through any of the many variations of circumstances an encounter may occur under.
  9. They found one!!!? j/k
  10. If that's her biggest fault, I'd hang on to her...
  11. As has been posted, there is no legal, prescribed distance at which any weapon in the hands of an aggressor is a reasonable threat... the law is written for that sense of imminent danger to be subjective, and all you need to be able to articulate is that you did, in fact, feel that your life or well being was at serious, immediate risk. The '21 ft' rule depicts the minimum distance that the average person with a gun can beat a charging person with a knife... I would certainly be clearing leather at a distance greater than 21ft, and especially 17ft (I have no idea where he got that... my guess is your instructor made that up). The important part of the law in that case is the 'imminent' requirement... if the aggressor is far enough away for you to be able to escape or prevent yourself from being accessible to the attacker, then the threat is not 'imminent'... for example, as was mentioned above, if there is a car or other barrier between you, or you can escape to a lockable place and call the police. Your weapon is only meant to be used if you wouldn't otherwise survive or remain concious/mobile until the perp is under control or in custody.
  12. That's my 1911
  13. If there is a sufficient disparity of force for one to believe they are at risk of imminent serious harm... yes... but it seems to me that to any able-bodied person, a single unarmed aggressor of similar size isn't a force disparity. Several guys coming at me would be reason to even the odds though.
  14. ...or a military pistol designed to run military ball ammo. I've never owned a 1911 which didn't feed JHP, SWC and FMJ with utter reliability though, and all of the ones I have personally seen malfunction due to anythong other than crappy magazines were chopped and tweaked guns far from the original design. I have little doubt that if you gave any pistol over to be cut and tweaked and chopped and resprung and reengineered internally by 100 different shops that more than a few would end up running like doo-doo, no matter how solid the original design was.
  15. It wouldn't surprise me if this gun will accept regular XD-45 magazines. I will probably get one of these... I haven't had an XD in a while.
  16. Well, considering that it's been documented that the stratospheric effects a single volcano eruption reduce the surface temperature .5-1 degree F for 1 to 2 years... it's pretty obvious that one eruption counteracts even the least conservative estimates of human effects on the climate over many decades... from which the only conclusion to be drawn is that if 'we' have any effect on weather patterns, it is so insignificant compared to natural, geological and solar effects that it's ridiculous, and obviously just an exercise in publicity and fearmongering for profit. I'm only concerned with local effects of toxic pollutants in the watertable, everything else comes out a wash. So, yeah, I'm going to let my truck idle for a few hours and spray some aerosols.
  17. I personally think that trying to justify being armed on the basis of appearing to be law enforcement to the casual observer (who is just going to see the badge and assume), is a bad idea because it gives the wrong impression, when the reality is that your business is 'Criminals beware, there is nothing here worth your life'.
  18. HAHA... I would have moved just to watch him ram the tie, and then died laughing.
  19. 1) Douche move by the guy using his badge to get his way. He certainly should have been more tactful. 2) ...however, he was there ready to park and your date wasn't and he might have been in just as much of a hurry. He didn't handle the issue properly, but that doesn't make 'I saw it first' a valid right to the space. You did right by letting it go, so kudos there for not pressing the issue. Hope the rest of the date went well, and this didn't dampen the mood. I too am one who dislikes the practice of 'saving seats'... if one can't make a reservation that means it's first-come-first-serve and I'm here and that's an empty seat/space and I went to just as much effort or paid just as much to get to it.
  20. For keeping in major bulk... I'd say the 62gr SP Brown Bear ammo would be perfect, as long as it didn't experience much moisture, causing casings to rust. I plan on stocking up on one of the various 60gr VMAX loads from Hornady, Black Hills or Georgia-Arms...
  21. I like 5.56 because I can run 5.56 surplus, .223rem and .22lr (via drop-in bolt conversion) in the same upper. Premium .223 ammo in 68-77gr is perfectly adequete for a gunfight at medium range. As for hunting, I'd expect a good upper in .243WSSM to be perfect for taking deer around here with an AR15.
  22. Both were posted and had metal detectors.
  23. I have been swamped, and it's not likely I will have a free weekend this month... which sucks, but will revisit this for May for sure.
  24. I live on less than the taxes I pay in... that's what's sad. I work/invest half the year to support the deadbeat liberal entitlement machine, another few months to donate to people so they don't end up on government dole and save for myself so that I don't end up on it either, and then October, November and December to pay the bills. ...and even worse, I am punished for not having kids.
  25. I'd have to go with pizza... many variations, and it's not bad for breakfast, lunch or dinner...
