I can't help it if I look like a hard-ass... (that's a joke, for anyone who's met me...) As to the perceptions I get from other people who I come in contact with, and the perception which I strive to project... First of all, the most noticeable thing to me about people I meet is their eyes. Whether they are confident, and look me in the eye, or whether they are shifty and watch people for an open avenue to take advantage of them (or avoid being caught)... and of course there are the majority of people who are oblivious to the nature of the folks around them. Outward appearance is a factor, as well... there are so many facets of style and presentation that it would be lengthy to analyze them all, but there are certain stereotypes which are consistent... for the most part. For myself, I try to be a positive influence on my surroundings, just by being friendly, polite and not over-bearing. I'll always look you in the eyes... and I always strive for good hygiene. People who look or smell bad aren't necessarily bad people... it's simply a sign that they do not care, or are trying to put forth a negative perception of themselves. Vulnerability to criminals is directly related to one's situational awareness, and what situations one allows themself to be in.

New girl, with a little something for "the ladies"
molonlabetn replied to a topic in New Member Introductions
Hi Kelly! It was a pleasure to meet you, welcome to TGO. Eddie / molonlabetn -
Ressurected! I will say, as true it is that lights are a bullet magnet, there is some advantage to being able to dial 911 while illuminating and covering a goblin.

The Average Joe, checking in...
molonlabetn replied to The Average Joe's topic in New Member Introductions
Same here, except for the Diet Coke part... but I make up for that by being extra conservative Welcome! -
It's just a picture... never seen this one in person (though I have seen some interesting paint jobs on AK furniture). This one looks almost like it was dyed somehow... the wood-grain still show through. I rather like that look. The same effect could be make with rosewood furniture (boy would that be expensive!). My Ak is parkerized with black furniture... but I think that a polished Ak with high quality wood furniture is the most beautiful ugly-gun I can think of.

OoooooO... you have a 7.62x54R Romak/PSL? Mind if I ask how much you've got it listed for?

I was thinking something more along these lines:

I just made the connection that this is Tower's Julez... Welcome again! I hear you're dangerous with that M1A...

Heh... While the French certainly get the puss award for the past century, the FAMAS is indeed one sweet rifle!

TFA Nashville Chapter June Meeting (06/19/07)
molonlabetn replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
There's a calendar entry for it on the portal which says the 21st... I intend to be there. -
For long range, I usually go to Viola Valley in Viola (about 30min drive from Tullahoma/Winchester... it's closer to Winchester)... or, I go to the NG Range near the AF base.
-
I'll tell you what Julez... there is a company called Robinson Armament who makes a rifle called the XCR. It's manual of arms is remarkably similar to the FAL, but on a smaller scale, chambered for the .223 cartridge. http://www.robarm.com/index.htm Check it out. Other than that, you might look into an AK47/74 variant... they have shorter length of pull than most American weapons. It's worth a try. Edit: You asked what we prefer... After owning various ARs, etc... for a few years, I have gravitated towards the AK platform. Mainly for simplicity. It's a rifle I might have to fight with at intermediate and close-quarters, and can practice with cheaply without worrying about wearing it out. I still need to get a .22lr rifle for plinking, but I also have a lever-action .357 which will fit that bill as well, and also suffice for hunting. I'm personally not that interested in long-range rifle shooting or hunting (unless out of necessity)... I'd rather collect handguns, and hone my skills with a carry weapon which fits me. Welcome to TGO!

The only time I've been pulled over in the past 5 years was by a trooper for a headlight out... No fishing expedition, he was very professional. No mention of the permit even after he ran my license and likely found out I had one.
-
The rules are likely very similar to those for carrying in a vehicle. I cannot find any code which prohibits carry on a watercraft... It's not illegal to hunt waterfowl from a boat, so firearms in general are allowed, for sure.

West Virginia Carry Soon for TN Packers?
molonlabetn replied to Marswolf's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
With all seriousness; If that ever becomes a possibility, I'll go with you, and lunch at Ben's is on me. -
I have often-times considered purchasing a few hi-points to stash around the house, so that they'd be accessible anywhere... there's no shame in weighing the purpose and value of any purchase with budget.
-
I wish they'd make a 527 in 5.45x39mm...

I don't want to meet the squirrels in your neighborhood! Anyhow, congratulations... I'm sure you'll find something to do with it!

I can only imagine that younger LEOs probably catch alot of flack and attitude from older folks they have to deal with... kudos for representing to him early on what a good encounter with an HCP holder should be like.
-
Sounds like that young trooper has some class. Excellent encounter. I haven't been pulled over in a good while, but if I ever do again, I hope the LEO has the same tact.
-
I have a feeling that there is a Mosin in my future... ...and perhaps a Romak PSL later on, as well... for ammo commonality. I don't miss my ARs.

Déserteur ...nothing a 20-cent bullet can't cure.

Have you decided on which upper you'll be getting?

I absolutely agree with you that the main problem is in the articulation of what and why specific behavior is 'harmful'. Moreover, I think that the symptomatic problem which stems from that issue is the disposition of government to err on the side of creating more laws, even if there is contention whether the laws themselves create just as much potential for harm as they intend to prevent. We all know, in the end, that no law can protect anything... it is only the reasonable enforcement and application of the law which aims to regulate crime, though in many cases still cannot prevent it in advance. Law is only a documented standard which enforcers use to mitigate harm caused by those who do not respect the documented standard, the welfare of the individual be damned.

Anyone use this to lubricate their firearms?
molonlabetn replied to molonlabetn's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Yeah... I'd be interested to find out what the liquefaction and combustion temperatures are for the wax which they use as the solution for their formula. Some waxes can handle a few hundred degrees, but to be used in an aerosol, however, I assume those points to be low. Not a problem provided that the application is sparing (no different than oil).
