  1. Nope Just saurkraut... We ended up with way more cabbage than we needed, so, it's going bad. Ordered myself some x54R last night... it'll be nice if it gets here by this weekend, it should.
  2. Hey Reef, if I come to this, you can borrow my M590 for that portion, if you want. Looks like fun.
  3. Another person has discovered that harrassment over open-carry is exaggerated. That went exactly as it should have! I OC on a regular basis throughout mid-tn, and have yet to have a less-than-positive encounter with law-enforcement (not that, that would change anything).

The main drawback with the RIA/Armscor/Charles-Daly 1911s is the fact that they use a cast frame, instead of a forged one... but, that will only be an issue if you shoot large quantities of really hot loads.
  5. I've had 2 Mossburg shotguns... a 500 Cruiser (20" bbl, 7+1 capacity), and I currently have an M590 (20" bbl, 8+1 capacity)... Both functioned flawlessly... the 500 was even decent for clay shooting. The 18.5" SP is an excellent home-defense or vehicle weapon, being fairly compact... and they aren't too expensive either. They aren't especially tight, but I never had a problem with any of the several which I have fired.

It's incurable... may as well resign yourself. Of the three (RIA, Taurus or SA G.I.), I'd reccommend the RIA. Make sure you look at the Loaded Tactical. I've been far more impressed with the one I got my wife, than the Springfield Mil-Spec I had for a long time.

Never fired one, handled a half-dozen or so... The only negative impression I got, 2 points actually, was the integral lock on the hammer, and the serrations on the front of the slide (abberration, IMHO). If I got one... the hammer would be the first thing to go. The heinie sights are nice, so is the finish. The grips are cheap... Overall, the build-quality was pretty good. But for the price, I'd rather get a Rock Island Armory Loaded Tactical and a nice holster. Like I said, I have no trigger time on one, though... I'll leave that review up to somebody else.
  8. For a small gun, I'd personally prefer a single-point... or a convertible single-to-three-point sling. But most likely the former, to reduce the amount of excess webbing draped around me. Larger weapons benefit more from multiple attachment points.
  9. No offense to me... there are a few liberals I despise, as well. But, there are a few who I respect, even though we disagree on some points. So, It's probably unfair to paint with so broad a brush... Welcome to TGO! We are a gun forum (though we do our share of liberal bashing), what brought you here? What do you shoot? Enjoy!
  10. I sincerely hope that this fellow gets the help he so desperately needs. Yikes...
  11. I use Simple-Green to clean my guns with... That's about the only thing I use like that. It works very well.
  12. Greetings! Welcome to TGO, we look forward to your input.
  13. Aye... Mercuric salts are death to steel. I'll be cleaning it and the Tantal religiously after shooting ammo with corrosive primers! The ammo advice is appreciated... that's in line with what I've heard elsewhere. I have no preconceived notions about this thing being a tack-driver... but it is all matching. All I hope for it to be is a cheap plinker with some sentimental value. The only other advice I'd seek would be concerning things about the maintenance, accessories & spare parts I should keep an eye out for. I was considering putting a muzzle-brake on it...? Is it worthwhile to disassemble and re-bed these rifles? As I understand, it is a seldom-fired, unissued rifle still with 90% of it's blueing. The Polish specimens are supposedly some of the most sought-after... there was several similar Polish M44s on gunbroker which were going for significantly more $$$ (got this one for $100). I intend to use the bayonet to cook kielbasa for Dan at the Class III shoot .
  14. www.jgsales.com has 1080rd tins of 53gr steel-core for $129 + shipping. That's about the cheapest I've found... I am going to try and order a tin every couple of months. But, if you guys swing a bulk purchase deal with them... count me in on it! I'll be ordering 7.62x54R from them as well... 300rd tins for $39
  15. I might be able to make that if I don't have to work...
  16. I can't help it that I'm 3rd generation Polock, on my mom's side... It's in my blood, man! I noticed you had one back there... I've been eyeing those Polish Maks (9x18), and have seen a few Polish TT-33s (7.62x25), too. Thank goodness these mil-surp pieces are pretty cheap. Slowly but surely... Believe it or not... I've actually got a half-dozen rotten heads of cabbage out back... and a drum of saurkraut fermenting in the basement... I've never shot cabbage, but I might save them for the class III shoot... They'll be nice and ripe by then
  17. Hey now... I'm not the gun-toucher on this board. But I feel so empty every time I leave the shop without that DW Razorback...
  18. Polish M44 Mosin-Nagant, 1952 manufacture. Should be arriving @ Hero-Gear tomorrow... Time to stock up on some 7.62x54R. This will be my first foray into the wonderful world of Mosin-Nagant... any input or suggestions are appreciated.
  19. Sweet. Someday... Someday soon.
  20. Reminds me of the time I thought it would be fun to drink a vial of blue food coloring...
  21. Actually, that's what I wear when I mow the lawn... keeps the low-hanging branches out of my face, and falling walnuts from knocking me out.
  22. Certified badasses should be awarded these:
  23. Several years ago I randomly bumped into a few of the nice folks from Playboy who were in town for a 2002 promo photo-shoot @ Jack-Daniels... Far more down-to-earth people than I would've expected, had a nice conversation with them over some Jack & coke, and they didn't even know me from Adam.
  24. It could only be a SA sear issue if the only way to fire the gun is by double-action. It sounds to me like the slide was not fully returning to battery after firing, since I gather that you didn't have to lower the hammer after racking the slide, in order to get it to fire. What kind of ammunition were you using? The only other thing I can think of is that there is a problem with the disconnecter not resetting after returning to battery. Best of luck!
