  1. A 642 with .38+p is pretty snappy... but relatively tame with std pressure .38s. Any J-Frame shooting .357mag loads is going to kick you in the hand pretty good though... but if you're going to do it, the steel gun will make it bearable.
  2. Lately I've been carrying around a S&W ExtremeOps folder my grandfather gave me.
  3. Picked up a 9mm XD-M. Would like to find a S&W 940, a S&W 610, and finally purchase a Dan Wesson 10mm CBOB soon... Other than that, my next few months of disposable income will go towards rifle(s) and ammo.
  4. Blanket, First-Aid Kit, unopened gallon of distilled water, change of clothes, 2 large garbage bags, flashlight, batteries, $100 in cash. Plus, whenever I am in the car, I have a pocket-knife, another flashlight, usually a pistol, and of course my intimidating sex-appeal...
  5. It's not normal to pee in your eye?
  6. I love liberals... they make me feel smarter.
  7. Well, I don't have a 'need' even for an SBR, or any NFA item (a suppressor is an effective means of hearing protection though, arguably). I just want one... so far, everything else I own is practical. But, after my most recent trip to Hero-Gear... I would be quite happy with an SBR'ed & suppressed SIG-556 and/or a Suppressed FN FS2000. So, Something along those lines will be my Christmas present to myself this year. I thought about it... and it's very unlikely that the NFA is going to be touched for the forseeable future, at least not before regular semi-auto rifles are, so I'll start with something more affordable and conventional (especially since I'm blowing a couple grand of what I'd saved, on tires/repairs/maintenance for the Toyota this week).
  8. Good call Fallguy... we should totally form our own Zombie Squad!
  9. Kudos to the officer there... talk about priceless!
  10. If their prices are out of line... people will buy elsewhere. Personally, I have rarely found CTD to be competetive, price-wise.
  11. I really like the Marlin 1894CB I have... it's beautiful, has sentimental value, and is very enjoyable to shoot. It's one of the two guns out of my collection which I know I will keep for the rest of my life.
  12. History repeats itself... My only wish is to survive long enough to see those who voted for him to feel the consequences of his societal perversions, before I'm locked away in a 'radical conservative re-education camp' or executed by one of these stormtroopers he wants to create (or maybe the term will be sol'djas). Welcome to the Empire of Change!

Now I'm going to have to weigh it... damn the interwebz!
  14. Considering that the most likely scenario for any of us to use our personal ARs in a real encounter will probably not even expend an entire magazine... the fouling caused by direct impingement should be #99 on a 100-line list of things to worry about (#100 is whether to wear boxers or briefs during SHTF). Get gas-piston if you want it... I personally think they are pretty cool, but have zero illusions that they give any tangible advantage unless you are running a suppressed SBR or something (and hate getting a noseful of gas every time you pull the trigger).
  15. If only it wasn't a plastic, hinged abomination, I would agree with you 100%... at least in terms of striker-fired pistols.

It'd be nice if they'd expand the XD-M lineup to include a Compact gun, perhaps with a 3.5" barrel and a bit shorter grip... and retire the old XDs altogether.

That can't be right... it feels significantly lighter than the Tactical I had, actually. With a full mag inserted, it's noticably lighter than a gov't 1911. I'll weigh it, but I bet the 32oz is a typo, that's probably how much it weighs loaded.
  18. Ya know, objects appear to stretch due to relativity, as they approach the speed of light... that's always a neat trick. Of course, the time-variance issue is a problem... What seems like ages to me may only be an instant in real time

I have tried it in the Blade-Tech and SERPA holsters I had for the Tactical with success... My only leather holster is for the SubCompact (which I still have, and will probably keep), so I couldn't try it. But, the XD-M fits nicely in both of the kydex XD holsters I've tried... perfectly actually. The frame geometry is nearly identical, and the slide has the same dimensions (other than length), just contoured a bit different, but not in any of the places which contact the holster.

Just replaced my XD-9 Tactical with one of the new XD-M 9mm pistols. This thing is sweet... 19+1 capacity, same size grip, interchangeable back-straps, even better sights, match-grade barrel, awesome trigger (plus Springer Precision already has a sear & spring upgrade for them available), and ya don't have to pull the trigger to disassemble it anymore... We have a winner here... can't wait to run it trhough it's paces.
  21. I just ordered a case (250) of Remington 000-Buck 3" shells for the FN SLP (which pattern wonderfully, and are surprisingly controllable in this combination). I figure that ten .36 caliber projectiles at 1250fps would provide good penetration even out to 40-50yd... which is the longest range I'd need anywere on my property. Until now, I kept T-Shot (.20") for indoor, plus a few 00-Buck, and slugs for outdoor... but I'd rather keep the plan simpler and have a single go-to load.
  22. Wow... They are really pushing the envelope now.
  23. It would be better to just do it, and not make it a record of why. But it does make sense... they voted themselves out of a job.
