That is a given. This whole situation could have been avoided had I had it in writing 5 years ago. Never again. Everything is photocopied and stored including envelopes.

I actually  never received any bills. The contact info they had for me was for my dorm phone and mailbox at college. Might be why I never heard from them haha. 

Well I got some great news today, I rep from the collection agency gave me a call today to notify me that they had agreed to my pay for deletion contract. Upon receipt of payment, the collection would be removed from my report. Cheers!

It is sad that those with the most financial backing are usually the forerunners. How would you address the issue? I feel that is the only way you would keep your elected responsible. If they dont cut it, they're gone, regardless of their power backing.

  The account is almost 6 years old. By paying up, the account would become current, would this not drop the score again?  And keep it on there for another 7 years? What is really odd about this is I have been checking my credit score via CreditKarma for the past 2 years and it was never on there. It wasnt until I went to the bank and they got my Fico score that it actually started showing up. 

Well, at this point, I dont really have much of an option. If it is going to re-age the account   then there is no way I am going to go through with it. Only real option it seems is the PFD. Surely they would agree to it with it being such a trivial amount because that $204 could cost me tens of thousands of dollars in interest down the road. No thanks. 

Great. I may go ahead and respond with a pay for deletion letter. 

Little bit of an update. I received a letter from the CA today on their letterhead that read as follows,     Dear *******,   Per our discussion, we are willing to resolve the account by accepting $204.76 to pay your past due account in full. Payment must be received by 8/15/2013. Please take care of this as soon as possible so that we may notify the credit bureau that your account is now resolved.    To ensure that your account is properly credited, make your payment to National Fitness Advanced Collections Dept at the address above and include your membership account number in the memo of your check or on your money order.      So, is this sufficient enough info to say that it will be completely resolved up payment?

Thanks for all the advice guys. I wouldnt really try to negotiate the amount down as it such a trivial amount. I think I am going try and have a pay for deletion though. No matter the outcome, I will have something in writing saying the debt will be free and clear if paid otherwise there wont be any payment. Not having it in writing is what caused all of this to begin with
