We have a store here in Tricities that I used to only exclusively go to.... This business has weaned me from them. Sold all their mags on gunbroker, most of their Glocks, ARs, and as of Friday was asking $699 for a Gen3 Glock. I was looking for some mags for my .308 AR and they were bragging they sold about 20some .308 MAGS for $90+ each on gunbroker. That may work on Gunbroker but not for me. I understand they need to make a living but as far as I am concerned they can continue to make it on Gunbroker.

Things must be really loosening up I bought a gen4 19 in FDE today for under MSRP at Gunrack in Kingsport. I like the new beavertail backstraps... pretty cool. Was my lucky day lol.

I was able to pick up a S&W MP15 Tactical for $1100 thats about what it should cost.... Saw a a Rock River for $999 today also. Only bummer is the new S&W doesnt have a 5r barrel anymore and its 1/9 twist now instead of 1/8 (still melonite treated though). As the credit card statements roll in I assume the prices will be dropping faster, and I am ready as I need another .308 lower....

The problem with theboxoftruth article is that it's using FMJ ammo, fortunately at my house I am not governed by the Geneva Convention and limited to FMJ bullets. An AR with FMJ bullets is a very poor choice for defense. Most of the collateral shotgun wounds that I have seen over the years have been from 4 shot, 6 shot or bird shot, I dont remember a buck shot but thats not saying that it doesnt happen of course. Most shotgun wounds are devastating to see and anything center mass, close range usually has a bad outcome. A shotgun would be my second choice in my situation mostly because of size, I firmly believe pistol grips are for mall ninjas and my 870 with a stock and 18.5" barrel is longer than my AR. It's more difficult for me to move through my house and hallways with a shotgun than with my AR (it is very doable though..). I also like the fact of having 30rounds and a fast reload (not so much for the fact that I am a poor shot with an AR as much as I like the idea of having the rounds available, cover fire, etc.., more is truly better), contrary to popular belief it is possible to miss with a shotgun also. The end result will be the same, neither one are something you want to be on the other end of. Good discussion, I like the idea of having options, this conversation really makes me want to apply for a SBR lol.

In a home invasion the last thing I am worried about is my hearing protection, I too have fired an AR indoors and I wouldn't doubt I have some degree of hearing loss from it. All weapons fired indoors without hearing protection are going to cause hearing damage. It's no worse than a .357 revolver though. I have worked as a corpsman in the field and as a medical professional for over 20 years. I have seen lots of collateral damage from shotguns over the years, and yes it's usually not life threatening collateral damage, but its still a hazard. A shotgun loaded with buck shot will penetrate greater than an AR with defense rounds, and depending on the range and if its choked at all they are going to be pretty spread out. Properly loaded the AR is far and away the best home defense weapon in my opinion, if you own one and only use it for a range toy you should do some research and see if its of value for your situation. Size Fire power Adaptability Range Accuracy What is not to love?

Some light reading http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm#.223 Hornady TAP in 75gr will work nicely http://www.hornady.com/store/223-Rem-75-gr-FPD/ 55gr TAP if your AR will not stabilize the heavy stuff.

With properly loaded rounds the AR makes a fine home defense gun. You wouldn't use fmj in your 9mm or .45 either that's just common sense not to use it in a rifle. I will say the one time I have had to grab a gun at my house the AR was what I grabbed and the look of it and the blinding sure fire light sent the trespasser running for the hills without incident. (Granted this was outside....). I would grab it again without hesitation or my glock 20 which I dare say would penetrate more so than the AR.

Walmart in Johnson City had several AR's and a MP15-22 in stock earlier today. The trend is starting turn it seems. I honestly hope the people who bought these things up for resale get stuck with them...

I wouldn't trade my AR for three of any Ruger rifles. The deer in TN can be easily taken with .223. Get a .300 blackout as suggested if the small caliber makes you uncomfortable. The whole DI is unreliable and finicky is overblown. If its an apocalyptic type of one gun to rule them all situation .223 has tons of advantages, availability being foremost and if your reloading its basically twice the powder for one round of .308. So sustainability is another. Size and portability is excellent. Sling an AR and carry it around all day, then borrow someone's .308 and do the same (your mind will be made up quickly). With all that said I love the .308 I have several in bolt (remington and savage really not a Ruger non .22 rifle fan), and a .308 AR which is the best of all worlds IMO. No one gun will truly do it all; the .308 AR is pretty close though (other than weight and the powder hog issue...).

My revolvers are now my range toys, or hunting toys. Glock 20 15+1 rounds 10mm or s&w 6 shots 38 or 357 No brainer. The semi auto is almost always flatter and as easy or easier to conceal. My glocks always go bang when I pull the trigger and I can't ever remember a ftf or fte. Self defense or family defense is not the time for nostalgia. But to each his own.

45-70 guide gun is a great suggestion. Handgun I would want my Glock 20 10mm with 15 rounds of hard cast 200 gr. from the people I have talked with no handgun is sufficient for Alaska.... I figure the glock 20 you have lots of chances to make a grizzly mad, plus you have options such as saving a few rounds to shoot a companion in the legs after all you only need to run faster than someone...

Same sentiments, except I would grab the Glock 20 and be ready for man OR beast  I had the CZ bug years back, much like bad gas it passed.

There are good and bad rifles from nearly all manufacturers. One of the poorest put together rifles I have ever owned was a Rock River, doesn't mean they are all bad. I had to send my Daniel Defense back because it was way more finicky than it should have been, still a good manufacturer (and superb customer service). And I have a DPMS in 260 rem that I would and have shot against rifles costing 5x as much. My cheapo smith sport has truly never failed to fire and its round count is way up there, my best friends 6920 struggles with cheap steel ammo (as does my DD). It is like buying a car there are rifles made on Friday at 530 and rifles made on Monday morning. It truly is some luck of the draw and all makers will make some lemons.

I am pretty sure I am going to send Jim's an old Remington 700 that had water damage. Gone through and replaced crucial parts and trigger, stock. Outer barrel and action look pretty ugly though, hadn't considered chalk board paint that may turn out to be plan A actually...

My gen4 20 is a big improvement over my gen2 I had and an improvement over my gen3 21. My gen2 glock 20 I would have been afraid to shoot my reloads through, the gen 4 has as good chamber support as my aftermarket barrel. Also much less recoil, and lets not forget that big ambi mag release for us lefties. I would not be hesitant about a gen4.

I had a PF9 (pretty sure that's the model of the single stack 9mm...). It shot lights out good, I only sold it because it had vicious recoil for what I wanted in a gun for my wife. Recoil issue was compounded by the fact that it didn't like to be limp wristed at all, an issue my wife may have ran into.

Ohhh I love shooting my friends sig 1911, it is rifle accurate. Just not used to seeing that extractor... I honestly only traded for the TRP because it had a Burris Fastfire on it that I took off and put on my Glock 20 and the trade was going in my favor. The performance was a true shock. I brought the targets home to measure groups on my old 22-250 and was showing my wife the TRP target vs my Glock 21, and the TRP literally had just ate the center out of all the targets. She looked at them and said what's the TRP worth... I told her and then she said what's the Glock worth... I told her. She said well unless its a really skinny bad guy you still would have got em.... It's fun to ignore the voice of reason sometimes lol... Mr. Kong if I decide to sell I will yell since we are geographically close.

Make no mistake I am a Glock fan, I thoroughly love my Glock 21 and 20. I have owned tons of 1911's some that I put enough Wilson and Ed brown parts in that its just embarrassing.... I got one of the new colt rail guns didn't like it.... Got a Ruger sr1911, it was pretty but I have shot daisy and crosman guns more accurate... Shot my best friends Sig 1911 it shot great, the external extractor though....I feel about the same as the rail doesn't belong on a 1911. Traded a 22-250 yesterday for a Springfield TRP... I literally shot $500 worth of ammo today given the current pricing due to political climate.... OMG. I am not the best pistol shot in the world, I literally tore a target up at 25 yards. I was nailing my 100 yard rifle target. It fed everything perfect, my only complaint is the front strap checkering is so sharp that my hot reloads almost brought blood... I may not keep this thing but man what a well put together 1911.

Remington Sendero Butt Pad Removal
trevorst replied to Keyless's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
The sendero has an HS precision stock and the but pad is non removable. Any stock you swap out with that stock is going to be a big downgrade most likely. I would use a slip on if necessary -
I passed on a dpms at the JC Walmart the other day, I did get three boxes of the federal 100 round9mm that was like $20 a box though.

I had never thought of ordering directly from starline, I had always ordered starline from wideners in the past and they are on permanent back order and was well before the scare.

I never shoot lead in any of my glock factory barrels always jacketed, but then again I almost always buy aftermarket barrels also. One thing I have found interesting on the gen 4, while waiting on my LW 6" barrel to get here I have ran some pretty scorching reloads through this thing and without a doubt it has a world more chamber support than my old gen 2. No glock smilies on the brass at all so far, in fact if it wasn't for wanting a little more fps and to shoot lead I would be good with the factory barrel. Thing is rifle accurate, once I get my LW barrel in I will try to post a few pics showing the chamber support comparing stock and aftermarket. I bet they are very close.

Recommendations for a Bolt Action .22 and Scope?
trevorst replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in Long Guns
If I had to keep what I traded for I would never trade my savage mark ii for any other .22. I've owned kimber, cz, Brno, Ruger 77/22, marlin, etc.... Never owned anything that shot like my mark ii, and no it's not a work of art but man it shoots good.
