1. My wife's choice is a sig 228 9mm in DAO, I recently let her shoot my new gen4 glock 20 in 10mm and I think for around the house use she said she would rather use it and feel the recoil than see the attacker get up lol.
2. I don't think you can use a gen4 slide on a gen3 frame (I may of course be wrong).
3. I am on the hunt for a gen 4 29 now for EDC, just finished loading up some more rounds. Time to pick up a 6" barrel and start looking for bulk brass and bulk lead. Wish it wasn't so difficult to get brass and bullets right now.... For the record shot it again today and the wife fired a few rounds off, her review was much more pleasant to shoot than my older g20 (course that may be the ammo differences between whatever reload I gave her prior). Maybe I can convince her to sell off one of her "pretty" sigs for another 10mm lol.
4. Well I finally gave into the panic buying, had been wanting another 10mm glock for quite awhile (well about 5m after I sold my gen 2 20 I regretted it...). I got an aftermarket barrel for my 21c to shoot 10mm but honestly it was never quite right and I sold it. After talking with people I was set on getting another in gen3. As luck would have it was at my LGS while they were unpacking and made a comment about a 20 in gen4 and lo and behold I now have one. Went straight to the range and its a shooter, biggest surprise is the double spring in the gen4 makes it absorb much more recoil than I remember. We'll see how it does on my high octane reloads lol.
5. I have a p228 that is my wife's. Excellent gun, mine is circa 1990 and DAO has a hideous trigger pull but for what it's for that's fine. I personally prefer glock still but it's hard to argue with the beauty that is the sig p220/226. Even with the stout trigger accuracy is amazing, reliability is right there with my glocks, at least on my sample. Btw if anyone has any Wolff mainsprings that would lighten the da pull down to a reasonable 5-6lbs instead of the now finger numbing 12lbs then please send me a pm I would be in the market :)
6. Well my 700 AAC-SD is wonderful. Very accurate rifle, trigger needs upgrading and stock to wring the most out of it. Likes a heavier bullet 175gr+ . If I was going to change the trigger and upgrade stock to what I wanted anyways down the road I would not hesitate to buy the 700 AAC if I had no intentions to do any upgrading I would go savage all the way.
7. I picked some of these up at wideners last week for $27.
8. My .308 dpms has minimal recoil, the 260 rem you can see impacts in the scope which is nice. I honestly have a sorer shoulder from shooting my 22-250 than the .308.
9. I honestly don't know if I would go the rra route for a .308. It appears the industry is moving towards the more standardized dpms/knights/etc pattern. Even Armalite has models that accept the pmags. If parts become scarce (may should change this to when not if...) i believe I would opt for the one that has the most parts available. That said rra has been hit or miss with me, pleased on some products (predator pursuit upper) and incensed enough on some to write letters and call (bolt with wobbly gas block from factory and a cracked new lower on another). I went dpms lowers on both my .308 and .260 couldn't be happier.
10. Varget is pretty much impossible to find.... My 8lb jug is starting to get very light sadly...
11.
Wow. That's good. I'm not familiar with these but if that is common I would be more than happy with that. I don't believe there are many people that can shoot to the capability of a 1/2 MOA rifle.
Honestly I have a heck of a time anymore keeping up with my rifle lol, to really keep the groups down requires a lot of trigger time and sadly more than I have these days... I still recommend the geissele national match trigger to anyone wanting a precision ar I swear it seems magical. I would take it and a stock barrel over a high end match barrel and just about any other trigger.
12. I have shot my .308 out to 600 yards, 18" barrel makes it hard going much farther, and i have my 260 rem if i want to go farther. I reload everything IMO your wasting money on a expensive barrel and shooting factory loads. I shoot 168gr smk 168 gr amax and 175gr smk, mine likes the heavier 175s a little better but my rem 700 (also a 1-10 twist shoots them all over the place so I stick with 168s). I use 45.5gr of varget and cci magnum primers with the 168s. To get the most out of mine I have to load oal longer than the mag will allow so it's single shot only. When I load mine to mag length I can still keep it sub moa easily, just not the ragged one hole groups. The only factory ammo I would consider would be the federal gold medal match. Fwiw it's easier shooting my 260rem out to 1000 yards than it is the 308 out to 500 lol.
13. I love my 10/22 I did just pick up a savage mkII fvsr and it's scary accurate. If you decide on a bolt 22 in the future for the money it's the one (bought it for my son and it's going to be hard to let go of shoots circles around my cz and my 77/22.). Was $229 from buds.
14. I have a lothar walther on my ar15 also have a Wilson barrel on another. Both exceptional barrels, my 308 is dpms sass not sure who outsources it for them. My friend with the bartlein his weighs much less than mine and shoots better. Keep in mind my sass shoots sub moa very easily and would average .5 moa most days when I do my part. I think you reach a point where you don't get as much return on cost.... Have another friend with Ranier arms ultra match and it shoots very good also.
15. http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2012-custom-rifles/ga-precision-g.a.-precision-gap-10-.html Link to the holy grail There is a very lengthy wait, I do have an acquaintance that has one and it's truly a piece of art, and shoots better than it looks.
16. GAP10 uses a Bartlein 5r barrel. Pretty sure that's the holy grail of AR10's. Myself I have a dpms SASS barrel and it shoots lights out, and I didn't have to wait a year and spend a small fortune. One day I will get around to posting group pics.
17. My RRA predator pursuit will put lake city 1" all day. Best groups have came with 69gr smk hand loads and have shot multiple groups in the .2-.3" range. Will oddly enough place 52gr amax sub .5 moa also... My predator pursuit was custom ordered 18" stainless bead blasted 1/8 twist. Geissele national match trigger helped immensely with group size.
18. To me that's the only detriment (well other than standardization of platforms) is the weight.... Mine weighs a ton. Mine are only used for bench shooting and for long range hunting so I rarely have to carry them far.
19.
I've been very tempted to build one in 260 Remington. May be a bit odd, but you can form it from 308 brass and 6.5mm rules!!
I form mine from .243 and 7mm-08 and get slightly better results. 260 rem is IMO the perfect cartridge, still amazed it never really caught on. Only detriment is its hard to seat the bullets out far enough and keep it in a magazine, at least for the Berger VLD bullets (the 6.5 Creedmore remedies this somewhat, but is harder to get brass....)
20. One of the reasons I went with buy over build is the cost is higher on a build with the .308 platform. One option for the buy it now crowd is CMMG, they are selling them at widener's now for a decent price. To add to the annoyance you will need new tools for .308 as your old armorers wrench probably won't work, and of course your vise block will be different The colt looks interesting to me but I wanted to wait until it had been out for awhile and see how it stood over time. The Armalite was interesting also especially since they are taking pmags, the cost got me and the fact all of the extra little stuff I wanted was more money also (rails, etc...). The dpms is annoying because you have a high and a low upper receiver when looking for rails and the difference between the two is only about 1/8 inch but enough to be a pain (one of mine is a high and the other a low...). The cost difference between Armalite and DPMS (at least for my .260) was enough to take a chunk out of my scope. All of them are great fun though, it's not nearly as fun shooting my 223 AR's now. The .260 has to be the most boring rifle in the world to shoot, it simply puts them one on top of the other, shoots flatter than anything I have ever shot and bucks the wind like a heavy .30.
21. I will post pics of mine when I can get to a camera... I have a DPMS .308 with SASS barrel, but a generic free float tube (I need a rail system of some sort maybe a Troy TRX). I also have a DPMS .260 rem. Both of mine I swapped the stock for a magpul PRS and swapped triggers out for Geissele hi speed match triggers. If I done it again I would go with the Mega Arms lower. The DPMS SASS barrel is a ridiculously good barrel and can be found cheaply on occasion (mine is a legitimate 1/4 moa shooter), everyone I have talked with who has one has had great results. The ranier arms barrels if they are as good as the select .223 ones should be amazing.
22. Wideners has LRB lowers in stock for $80ish Good value for the price (I have a closet full lol).
23. Cmmg makes a decent lower that is on the DPMS pattern. Shop around for your upper, I just picked up a Dpms lr308b upper with full flutes and an a3 upper for $640 from Nelson tactical. Is an absolute tack driver. Dont think you will save money by building yourself, at least on a .308 platform.
24. I agree that 5.56 will be more readily available, however so should .308; that's where I think resources should be placed if you are thinking about going the .30 caliber route. This way your not necessarily tied to the reloaders bench if the need arises to be mobile.
