I'm sure a lot of people buy H&Ks as a status symbol. But I don't do that. Function is my touchstone. I have four carry guns. Two are H&Ks, one is a Beretta, and one is a Kel-Tec. I carry them because I think they are the best available for the different uses I have for my carry handguns. Except for the Beretta 92SB, that I've very happily carried since the dinosaurs died out, the other handguns were selected pretty much as a matter of evolution. The Beretta still does a terrific job as a field handgun, so I continue to carry it. I tried a number of guns and eventually ended up with my selection for other uses. It took tries with Glock and XD before arriving at the P7M8 for 9mm concealed carry. Glock and SIG were tried before arriving at the USP 40 for open urban carry. The BUG went through NAA, Beretta Tomcat, and Kel-Tec P-32 before settling on the P3AT. It doesn't really matter if I carry a $250 gun or a $1200 one. I want the best gun for the application. I think I have them.

Certainly top of the line products cost a lot more than their additional utility value. It's sort of like deciding whether to buy a Ford or a Lincoln. The Ford will probably get you where you want to go as well as the Lincoln, but some people are willing to pay a lot more for the additional features. As I've pointed out, there a lot of little things that you don't see in a H&K, like metal inside a "plastic" trigger, or a rubberized coating on the hammer, or better heat treating and finishing on the steel parts, that a lot of people never know or care about. Whether you are willing to pay for the extra engineering time and features is an individual decision - like buying a Lincoln.

Yeah, I've been. I might drive over and hang around in the parking lot. I'd rather waste my $7 (or whatever it is now) on a pizza. Last show I went to there I wandered around a lot. Got irritated at the high prices and walked out only buying a bunch of 30 caliber cleaning brushes. I'd rather patronize my local gun shops.

By my calculation, this will be February 16. (Brrrr)

Yeah, but why was he at the brothel?

ABC had a story on the news tonight about McDonald's getting into the coffee business and taking on Starbucks. They had some coffee snob on who finally admitted he liked the latte at the golden crotches better.

Tennessee used to not accept Alabama carry permits because in Alabama, they do not have to do a background check. But Tennessee changed it's practice several years ago.

I had to go for the 9mm Hi-Power. But 1911s are fun too.

Yeah, I was trying to be funny. But my requirements for a carry gun are that it be either DAO or be capable of being de-cocked and re-cocked. The latter is preferred for a primary weapon.

WJHL, in Johnson City, is doing a story about this on the 6 O'clock news tonight. They are doing an interview with restaurant workers. There is also a poll on this at http://www.tricities.com/tristate/tri/home.html. Just a little box on the right side of the page. "Do you think handgun permit holders should be allowed to carry a weapon in establishments that serve alcohol?" Right now, the numbers are 32% yes and 67% no. So, go vote!

I definitely do try

Is $200 a month for cable TV and Internet too much?

I's amazing whet you can findo the digital airwaves. -
A French letter, or better known to us 1800s folks as a French Envelope is a only a matter of private intrigue. (We're talking about rubbers folks. Penile sheaths, condoms.)

The Legislature is back to work in Nashville..
Marswolf replied to Fallguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
How about just letting all of us pack who don't have a felony conviction? The felons are going to pack anyway, if they choose. They get a bunch of years at our expense to think about it. At least the rest of us get to have some protection against them. -
Personally I dislike the French press because it's called French and is thus snooty and affectatious. Everything is bad for your health. Screw it and enjoy yourself. You want another 60 years of deprivation or 30 years of joy and pleasure?

Thanks for the link! Lets' not let this topic degrade into a yet-another 39-17-1302 thread. We've done it to death. The AG is an idiot. Until we get a sensible non-anti-gun Governor, it ain't gonna change. Unfortunately as long as anti-gunners are in charge of the House and Governor's mansion, nothing will get done. Get used to it - and elect better people to represent you! -
It could be worse.... I did it twice. First, I bought and then traded the G26 I bought, and found out I didn't like for CC - with LaserMax - for an XD-9 sub that I did enjoy for several years, until I found it it didn't have a hammer. (Well, I knew that but it took me a while to figure out why I didn't trust it as my car gun) Then I forgot to take my medicine, or put my brain in gear or whatever, and bought a G23 and dressed it up like a Saigon whore. Night sights (I did ditch the LaserMax), worthless recoil buffer pad, butt plug with take-down pins, tacti-cool light.... Even bought (but thankfully never installed) a 3.5# connector (available for a verrrry reasonable price +S&H). The Glock rail battery run blender for making frozen Margaritas was worth the price. I also bought a video that I'm about to put on eBay or somewhere about shooting the mini-Glock. (actually the video is pretty cool, if a bit snobby and pedantic, and shows complete takedown and reassembly of a Glock) Just proved to myself that I wasn't really too smart after all. But the force was strong, even if my name isn't Luke and eventually I came back to the light. There is a cure. Just buy one quality H&K and you'll buy more instead of those ugly "G-gun" things. But it will cost you.... I still like G-strings on the right people though....

I might also mention that this is one of the few boards I know where people actually buy and sell gun related items. I keep forgetting about the chat room. And just think, if I hadn't POed and scared off all the smart people who know everything about everything, we could have had 2000 members by now. Of course half of them would have been insufferable.

Nothing wrong with polymer. But you might want a pair of these as an accessory.

And you can bring back some herb to pay for the trip!

Well, you don't just throw them loose into your freezer. You need to put them into something that is tightly sealed. The trick is to not let the oils oxidize, which starts happening about 15 seconds after you roast the beans. The most foo-foo coffee beans I have in stock right now are from Godiva. Cost is currently $12.50 for 10 ounces. Not great stuff, but better than most. They say: Anything that reduces the oxygen content or molecular motion will help. Here's a site with a good overview. http://www.ineedcoffee.com/99/07/storage/ I had Al Gore bring me core samples from Antarctic glaciers.

Well, looking over websites, it looks like the French Press coffee infusers are currently de rigueur. I guess the old wisdom that infusion is bad and brewing good are out of style. I know French Presses were popular in snobby restaurants in London 20 years ago. But would you really trust the English to tell you how to make good food and drink? I used to roast my own coffee to perfection, grind it and make my coffee from freshly heated water brought to just under the boiling point properly dripped into a cone brewer. Over the years I've found other things to be of more interest, so these days I buy pre-ground coffee and just use an automatic drip coffee maker and punch the button when I get out of bed. It may not be as good as my old foo-foo way of making coffee, but it requires a lot less effort and does just fine at waking me up in the morning.

Mike, Lowes has drip pots with the heaters. You should be able to find them in a bunch of places. For example: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=259175-63607-DR13&lpage=none I bought a book about coffee and tea back in the 70s. I'm sure it's still around here somewhere. The point it made was that tea should be infused (soaked in hot water) and that coffee should be brewed (hot water flows through it). I think I've had about every type of coffee maker made - percolator, vacuum maker, French press, espresso, Turkish pot and pressure, automatic and manual drip. For normal coffee, I think the manual drip is best but a lot of trouble. Remember I said I drink Luzianne. Coffee is something to do while I wake up. Yes, I can appreciate good coffee, but you can't get it here. So the automatic drip pot comes in second place in my view and I can get it started in the morning with just the push of a button.

Roasted beans start to oxidize immediately. The flavor starts going "off" immediately. That's why you get coffee in vacuum sealed or nitrogen injected bags. Freshly ground coffee is better, but you need to keep oxidation down by freezing the beans once they are roasted and just grind the ones you need for that batch of coffee. Having said that...I buy Luzianne coffee and keep it in a jar on the counter top.
