Colorado Security Guard Makes Statement
Marswolf replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree. That's what I was trying to say about imagining yourself in a tight situation, but you made the point clearer. Thanks. One needs to imagine that you are being attacked, but you also have to use that to figure out you will do if that occurs and prepare mentally to actually carry out that action. While it wouldn't apply in this situation, I also want to remind folks that the way you look and act has a lot to do with whether you are chosen as a victim of violent crime. Crime prevention is better than having to get yourself out of a criminal confrontation. BTW Mike, if someone shoved a shotgun in my face, my first reaction would be to give them what they want, not to attempt to pull a gun. There is a lot of difference between being brave and prepared versus foolhardy. -

He was certainly the wrong person to be placed in a position to defend other people. -
You like the dextro-side of a chicken?

I don't read any of them. Last one I subscribed to was Gun Tests, but they have too many ridiculous "reviews" where they bought a clearly defective gun and "tested" it anyway. The other magazines will never write something negative about their advertisers. I can keep up with what's new online for free.

Mike, I wish I had a simple answer for you. By far, the best way to know is to have been there already. I've been doing this shooting at people stuff since I was a FNG in 1969. I had to prove myself to some very good men. Fortunately, I did that pretty quickly. Not that my aim was too good initially, but at least I would act and they knew they could count on me. Over the years I've developed a pretty good sixth sense about who will act and who will freeze. Those who will do the job just have a certain resolve that I can't entirely pin down. But I can tell you that loud-mouth bloviators that tell you how good and macho they are are people I seldom trust initially. But there are exceptions. Some people are just good and know it. Some people go through life as good BSers too. All I can suggest is that you train and imagine yourself in a tight situation. That way, if it happens, you at least have the possibility thought through. And hopefully you can act on it. But I can tell you that if I was setting up a security group for protection of a congregation or other group, the people I accepted into the security detail would be proven. Whoever chose that volunteer security guy at this church did a serious disservice to the church. -
I suspect the reason Kitts didn't get into trouble with the DA was the choking part.

Glad you posted that mwn. I looked for my copy of that pic but gave up after a couple of minutes.

Colorado Security Guard Makes Statement

I do wonder how many members of the public we have out here who have permits and carry who wouldn't be able to draw down on someone and pull the trigger if that was the appropriate action. I wonder the same about paid private security guards who have never had to fire on someone. Maybe before we use security people, we need to make sure they can do the job, if their job is protecting the weaker members of the citizenry. -
Try them all out in your hand. I went in to buy a Ruger, but walked out with the Buckmark. I've been very happy with it.

Now they are saying the guy committed suicide. Regardless, she tried to take care of the situation. Again, hooray for her! -

Hooray for her! Now let's go beat up that male security guy who froze and wouldn't fire his gun. -
I know Judo and Karate and a bunch of other foreign words. No, seriously I started training in Karate on my own from a couple of books when I was 14 years old. Then over the years I picked up some training from a few people who knew what they were doing. One of my roommates in college had a third-degree black belt and used to beat me up on a regular basis. Of course we called it training. And I've had a bunch of military training. I don't know it would fit into a particular discipline. It's just self defense and attack stuff.

I wonder how hot this stuff is? I couldn't find a SHU rating on it.

Herding cats is easy. Just shoot the ones who won't go where you want them to go. Of course it does keep the herd size down.

I'm surprised tape drives are still around. I had one on my first PC clone. With hard drive prices so low these days, I'm surprised everyone isn't just mirroring their drives. I just added a 120GB portable Mini USB drive for my computer backup. It won't do a complete mirror of both of my drives, but will back up all of my applications and their data plus the data on my wife's machine. And it fits in my shirt pocket. Only bad thing is that the USB slows down data transfer a bit.

Dang, I hate it when you miss it too.!!!!

Boo! Hiss!!!!!! (seriously) I don't see a problem with what he posted. PC instituted????

These days you are getting ripped off if you buy a Dell, regardless of the price. There is something to be said for buying quality at a higher price. (Kinda the same as popular pistols - ) Dell's suck big time, IME. Cheap components and retarded OS. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got into my wife's Dell for the last couple of days. No wonder she hates me for insisting she upgrade her 484. God, Dell is the Glock of the industry....

Yeah, XD parts are available with perseverance, but you can't get them directly from Springfield. Then again, you aren't likely to need them and the XD has a lifetime parts and labor warranty. While I seldom recommend Wikipedia as a source, there is a very good article about the XD, listing pros and cons of the pistol at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Armory_XD. I certainly would (and did) go with the XD rather than a Glock when given the option. Why not unless you want to gettoize your pistol with "accessories"? But remember, it's just a safer Glock-like gun. Safer as in grip safety and supported chamber. I still prefer handguns that can be de-cocked and re-cocked.

Stereotypes generally have a basis in fact.
