    TGO Meet 2008?

The heater has a thermostat that turns on the juice when the temp drops to 40 degrees. That way the birds don't have to ice skate. The M18 works in any temperature.
  3. Jason, I had a P-32. It worked fine and is a good size for a concealed carry. Personally, I prefer something with a bit more penetration than a .32 Auto, but some very knowledgeable packers like them just fine. Have you looked at the Kel-Tec P3AT, .380 Auto? It's essentially the same size as the P-32 but has a bit more power. That's what I have ended up with and like it a lot.
  4. To get Neifeh out of the Speaker's chair, you are going to have to elect more Republicans to replace the Democrats. The effort starts at the grass roots, not with the people who are already in office. That's a waste of time.
  5. Tupperware guns just keep evolving. I'll be interested in hearing a shooting report.

The rock holds down the heater in the bird bath. That's what that big wire wrapped cord is for. And yes bteague2, I like Claymores a lot better than gnomes. Gnomes just don't go boom worth a damn.
  7. Frank, I'm mostly spittin' (or whatever) into the wind with this line of posts. We have had NDs over here at gun shows. No one hurt as far as I know. Show promoters are going to continue requiring ties on guns for liability reasons. But they are a bit silly for actual safety purposes. I've seen a bunch of them clipped at shows to try out a magazine or whatever. And some people, quite understandably (and I think properly), just don't show their concealed protection handgun. Only way the gun check thing could work is to have a metal detector or strip searches at the door and no ammunition at the shows. I still think the problem could be taken care of by a threat of spaying or neutering if you pull out a loaded handgun at a show. And in case some guy like Cho shows up and starts blasting away, he will get in fewer shots before someone takes him out. Eventually that is going to happen. Then the promoter will get sued for not allowing carry. I think the proper solution is Texas Governor Rick Perry's idea that concealed handguns should be allowed everywhere including churches, courthouses and bars - and gun shows....
  8. As I said, Ghostdog.... I saw nothing in your post suggesting that Glocks are anything less than perfect. (Except maybe in 40 S&W. Unfortunately I carry in that caliber)
  9. Sounds just like McCarthy and Schuler to me. If everyone can't be trusted with a loaded gun then no one should be trusted. Maybe I misread the post, but it sounded like Frank helped those cretins get their permit. What did I miss? The gun shops I go to have customers pull loaded guns all the time. No woundings yet. Maybe things are different in mid-state.
  10. Yeah, but it isn't state of the art now and isn't carried by SS because they have better weapons for their current situation. In 1989, Glock had something that filled a need. But even if the need hasn't changed, there are better weapons available to fill it today. I think I have a mace around here somewhere that I don't use. Care to buy it for self-defense? It was state of the art in 12,000 BC.
  11. Good grief..... This sounds like the anti-gunners argument that if you let normal people carry handguns, there will be blood running in the streets. But of course that doesn't really happen. As far as the vendor with the ND, it sounds to me like it was caused by the promoter's insistence on not having loaded guns at the show. If nothing had been said, the incident wouldn't have happened. I suspect it's largely a matter of liability. The promoter shows his intent to eliminate NDs, ADs, whatever from happening by inspecting the guns coming into his area of responsibility. I doubt it is necessary for safety reasons. For what it's worth (not much), I go to very few gun shows. Normally prices are no better than I can get from a local shop and nothing is new that I don't know about. I'd also rather apply the entrance fee as part of a good meal. If I had to pay to go into Wal-Mart to buy stuff, I wouldn't go there either.
  12. Well, it bothers me that some people with Glocks can't verbalize the good things the gun does and also admit the gun's failings. It's like some sort of hero worship. I don't mind that if someone is debating art, but a gun is just a tool. Some tools are better designed than others and many tool designs get better over time. I think I give Glocks credit where due but also point out the gun's problems. I do the same with my H&Ks, Berettas, Kel-Tecs and other guns I own or have owned. They have good points and they have bad points. I think my assessment of the Glock design is both knowledgeable and fair. I like the 1911 and have owned several including a couple right now, but it's almost a century old design and it remains a decent gun because it has evolved. It's very venerability is what makes it interesting to me. But it was nicknamed the jam-o-matic for a good reason in wars through at least Vietnam. The M16 is a forty year old design that I like, but it has some problems in modern warfare that I don't ignore. Glock was innovative when it came out and still works OK for a lot of applications. But there are other Glock-like guns that have evolved from it and IMHO are better that it is. And there are other non-similar designs that are safer and provide more options while retaining the Glock accuracy and reliability. Why is that so hard for some people to admit?
  13. Here's a typical range session for me: The green bag is an Allen that I got on closeout at K-mart. Most of the junk goes in there. The black bag is pretty much cleaning stuff and is a mechanics tool bag.

Here's a view of my wildlife feeding station.
  15. A torque wrench can make a lot of difference in making a rifle accurate. My Remington 700 VS is very accurate when the stock bolt is torqued to 50 in-lbs as specified and less accurate when torqued above or below that point.
  16. I try to be of service.
  17. Television "News" is a business. They want it to be a profitable business and they have time to fill. If they can do salacious, gory or inciting spots, they tend to get more audience and advertising dollars. If you can't do an Anna Nicole Smith or Michael Vick spot, a gun piece is always good for a few more viewers. In all, it seems to me the spot was pretty bland. It just stated the facts. If someone sees more than that in the piece, it's in the mind of the viewer. People who go off the deep end about stuff like this hurt our cause. What if they decide to do a follow-up piece about the comments they received from "crazy people" who are allowed to carry guns?

  19. I see carrying a Glock for personal protection sort of like having a gambling addiction. You probably start for social reasons, so that others can see that you are one of the crowd. Then your actions turn out to be potentially self destructive. You are only hurting yourself and loved ones by your actions but it isn't a sensible thing to do. Everything a Glock can do can be done better with other handguns on the market. It was a step forward in 1989. But today's world is full of accurate, highly reliable and safer handguns. Many are also less expensive. I think it's a perceived status thing. I can't see any logical reason to carry a Glock and I see a lot of reasons to not do so.
  20. I don't think re-reading it will make it any more sensible. Natural rights are an a priori thing. They exist just because they do. From a practical aspect, if you won't accept my right of self preservation, I won't accept that you have any rights at all. That sounds fair.

Probably your best legal situation is to have no signs. If you have one, the plaintiff (or prosecutor) will likely say you have a shoot first mentality.
  22. Nah. Law enforcement buys Glocks because they work in their situation, don't have a hammer to scare the public or a safety to get in the way, and are relatively cheap for a reliable duty weapon. The public buys them because the cops have them and because they see all those glossy ads. They think they are buying prestige. Sort of like BMW owners think they are hot snot stuff, but are looked down upon by people who can afford Ferraris and real cars.

Damn, I'm not far behind. I gotta go post some more Glock stuff....
  24. Someone has to help him.
  25. That sounds like a useful class and the price is reasonable. I wonder if they do a kiddie force-on-force class? I'll bet some "trainers" would if they could make a buck on it. All this brings up something my wife and I believe. We think people should have to have a permit to produce children that certifies that they can be good parents, unlike 90% of the people I know who have kids. Just kidding....
