Only gun I log is my Remington 700 VS, and that one only because I reload for it and want to keep track of what loadings and other factors like bullet set depth give the best accuracy.

TN Constitionality of Banning Long Gun Carry
Marswolf replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'll have to examine this more. This might get added to the list I ask Ron Ramsey to check on with the AG. Can anyone give me more details about the Texas case? I need to make sure my ducks are in a row before asking for the opinion. Duplicate topic. See http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2879 -

I might add that for long-term storage, they make anti-corrosion plastic gun bags. Here's one place that has them at a reasonable price: http://www.exploreproducts.com/kleenboreanticorrosiongunstoragebag.htm [edit] Oops, didn't see that you mentioned them Verbal....[/edit] Here's a silica gel dehumidifier I use in a safe. Much easier to regenerate. Just plug it in instead of sticking in an oven. Good, Bad or suggestions with Trijicon night sights

Good suggestion sheepdog. I have orange rear and green front dots. -
Only daylight robbery of a gun store in my area I can remember was several years ago in Bristol. On the Virginia side, within sight of the state line. The guy running the store died.

Actually, I can understand why someone who carried a Glock professionally for years would want to do so after they retire. I just can't in good faith recommend them for people who are getting into carry for the first time or who want to change their carry gun. I contend that there are better choices. As to the ninnies (thank you Hyaloid ): THE OVERDOERS by Piet Hein Truth shall emerge from the interplay of attitudes freely debated. Don't be mislead by fanatics who say that only one truth should be stated: truth is constructed in such a way that it can't be exaggerated.

Well, I don't think I'm the only one who drives people away, if that happens. I observe stuff, analyze it. and draw conclusions from those observations. What kind of talk does someone expect in a topic called Why Marswolf hates Glocks? Guess I could post a barbecue sauce recipe. But I don't hate Glocks. Yet again, they work OK, but not great, as a duty weapon. But I have personal experience with them, and a bunch of other guns, having used them for business and pleasure for decades. Like any other gun, I can objectively see and comprehend their strengths and weaknesses. Some people don't want to hear anything except praise for their handgun choice. I'd be a lot less vocal if the Glock boosters would tone down their cheerleading and analyze rather than proselytize. One of the functions of a gun board is for members to share their experience and analysis with other members. If all someone wants is a big pat on the back and attaboy for picking the same kind of gun some other member has, then there are lots of gun boards, like Glock Talk, out there to get their mindless ego fix. I call them as I see them. I admit my mistakes and hope my stories of error will prevent someone else from making the same mistakes. I learn from other members and hope they learn from me. That's what I want out of online forums. I want to interact with people who think.

I keep WD-40 at least 20 feet from my guns at all time. For corrosion, I use Eezox as a metal treatment. I know some people swear by some of the vapor type anti-corrosion stuff, but I've never used it.

It depends on caliber - caliber of your handgun and caliber of the bad guys.

Ghosty, I seldom give an opinion. I do state my conclusions on the other hand. An opinion would be that black guns are prettier than green ones, or that Budweiser is better tasting than Old Milwaukee. A conclusion would be that Bud costs more than Old Milwaukee or that Glocks are an antiquated and a poor design by today's standards. And how can you say in the same post that I am odd for packing a cheap Kel-Tec and then turn around and suggest that I'm a gun snob for carrying a H&K? It's design and function, my friend. I settled on the Kel-Tec as a BUG after trying three other guns, some more and some less expensive. I settled on the H&Ks after trying numerous guns for cc and oc, including two Glocks, a 1911, and a SIG. The Beretta is an old friend of a couple of decades of faithful service that still has its use in some parts of the world. It has saved my life on occasion and I still trust its design, workmanship, and flawless reliability. Design and function....

Good, Bad or suggestions with Trijicon night sights
Marswolf replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have Trijicons on the P7M8 for several reasons. They need to be custom fitted on that handgun for the best results. I installed Mepros on my G23 when I had it. The vial surrounds are better on the Mepros than the Trijicons, but neither is as good in bright light as standard dot sights. -
The 40 S&W Glocks were improved but not fixed. The M&P, for example, has what may reasonably be called a fully supported chamber. The Glock still does not. I spent some time several weeks ago confirming that the chamber support problem still exists, looking at current design Glocks. I see no excuse for Glock not fixing the problem unless their reliability requires the sloppy and dangerous chamber design. Two of my four carry guns are H&Ks. The others are Beretta and Kel-Tec. I'm not wedded to any gun brand, nor will I dismiss a brand out of hand. To me, it's strictly a matter of design and function. I see no reason to say nice things about outdated or poor gun designs. The fact is that some guns are actually better than others and I think those should be held up as good examples, just as others should properly be denigrated for their poor design. But you are probably right GhostDog. We may never agree. I see pluses and minuses in the decades old Glock design. I think Glocks are a decent, but not best, design for LE. And I think it is a poor choice for the average public self-protection carrier for reasons I've explained time and time again.

Yeah, people are SUPPOSED to do those things, but the reality is that they don't always follow the rules. I'm good about following the rules when I'm in the mood , but others apparently aren't from the reports we get. And other gun designs are less fussy about the user following those rules. Even in SA mode, many guns could have their triggers "caressed" forever without a ND. I only have one gun that will fire if mindlessly disassembled with a round in the chamber or that requires dry firing to field strip. It's a little Saturday night special Sterling 25. Hasn't even been made since 1987. I keep it as a novelty and don't carry it. I also keep it as a show and tell example of bad gun design.

The XD is a good design and execution of a striker fired handgun. I had an XD-9 sub until just recently that I used as a car gun.

Actually GhostDog, for some people (like cops) I agree. Where we disagree is that the Glock is the best tool in that situation. Today there are other choices. But for the average concealed handgun carrier, IMHO they need a weapon that is not quite so easily fired. They are unlikely to ever need to do a lightning draw and fire, and a gun with a better history of not having NDs, and catastrophic failures if improperly loaded, is probably a good idea. I keep looking at different scenarios and the best gun for that scenario. For some of them a Glock-like gun (reliable, no safety so always ready, no scary hammer) fits what is needed. But with other choices available, these days Glock never turns out to be the BEST choice. And for most scenarios, a non-Glock-like gun appears to be a better choice. Glock users seem to like a lot of rules. Never use reloads. Always keep your finger off the trigger unless ready to fire. Always double-check the chamber before dry firing to field strip. Problem is, in the real world these things don't always happen. Why not just carry a handgun with a safer design?

Good, Bad or suggestions with Trijicon night sights
Marswolf replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I think the half-life on Tritium is about 11 years. They will get dimmer, but are still quite usable for a long time. And some of the tritium watches put out enough light to read by. But I agree that you won't illuminate yourself with night sights. -
This goes back to the old deal about what weapons are prohibited, but handguns are not on the list. 39-17-1302. Prohibited weapons. - (a) A person commits an offense who intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs or sells: (1) An explosive or an explosive weapon; (2) A device principally designed, made or adapted for delivering or shooting an explosive weapon; (3) A machine gun; (4) A short-barrel rifle or shotgun; (5) A firearm silencer; (6) Hoax device; (7) A switchblade knife or knuckles; or (8) Any other implement for infliction of serious bodily injury or death that has no common lawful purpose.

Good, Bad or suggestions with Trijicon night sights
Marswolf replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
If you carry concealed, how will anyone see them? I do have to be careful with my tritium dial watch in some situations. I find tritium sights less visible in daylight, so I only have them on my P7M8 IWB 9mm CC handgun that I normally carry at night. -
I use the electronic muffs. Been using them so long I don't remember the brand. I'll have to dig them out. But mine has an automatic turn-off after I think three hours in case I forget to hit the off button.

I haven't gone to a gun shot in about three years because my experience is about like Pokey's. Why would I want to pay to go in a place to shop for stuff at higher prices than I can get locally? BTW, as some may have noticed I'm doing an indoor Christmas show this weekend helping my wife and we vendors are footing the entire cost for the admission. That's right the public gets in for FREE and our booth cost is only $95. I see no reason gun shows shouldn't be run the same way.

Time to start a December get-together topic. We doing December 15 in Oak Ridge? Around here, for the next few months it may be either sandals or mukluks weather. Never can tell.

True in many cases. I also said they were, "relatively cheap for a reliable duty weapon." Some smaller departments don't buy the duty weapons for their officers. For officers buying their own weapons, there is less reason to carry a Glock, since they don't get the big department discounts. If I had limited resources, as cops normally do, I'd probably buy an XD or maybe a M&P. That's why I like a carry gun with no manual safety that can be fired either SA or DA. I carry normally in de-cocked fireable condition, but I can can easily cock it for SA if the situation looks like it might require a more likely and easier to get off more accurate shot. To me, a gun that has no manual safety, fires SD/DA, can be easily cocked and de-cocked, can do a double-strike, and that has a well supported chamber is a winning combination. Except for my BUG, the four handguns I use for duty or personal protection carry can do all of those things. I see no reason to compromise.

Yep the slide does not lock back. I haven't had any problem with either of my P3ATs running full magazines of ammo since I learned to not limp-wrist them and break them in (about the first 50 rounds on the first gun and first zero rounds on the second). TNDixieGirl, I think my wife agrees with you.
