2014 Off Season Support Group Deer Season Thread

Guess they were waiting to see if the impact would kill it off and save them the labor.... patient folks though.. gave it a few years to make up it's mind. The doc did a fair job piecing the leg and knee back together and believe it or not, it's now my good knee. The right one, between having a cadaver acl that is torn loose with a hunk of bone hanging on the end of it and me favoring it for years because of the ripping off of the left one has left it in awful poor condition. Fun stuff but i'm sure you can understand my firm stance on choosing an animal with some give to it rather than something that is grown in lol -

Sounds like a mess! Even that time I wasn't willing to run off the road to miss the deer but as I swung into the other lane my drivers side front tire hung the edge of the pavement and when I tried to snatch it back, it jerked me further off the road and I hit the tree. The tree pretty much was in the road and as a matter of fact it was so close that as it had grown since the road had last been topped it had lifted the pavement up. The painted line actually was almost on edge from where the tree had grown. The county ended up cutting the tree down a few years later because of the ever increasing encroachment. -

You have to wonder what in the world could be going through someones mind to do something like this. Will include the man in our prayers. -
Okay I've got my new Dillon 650 set up and have had little time to "play" with my new toy but I am having a bit of an issue with the case feeding. I haven't added to electric feeder yet so i'm just hand feeding them 10 at the time for now but where i'm having the problem is after it drops the new case out of the tube. I apologize in advance for not using the proper names for some of the parts. Now, when the new case falls from the tube it lands on what I believe they call the "station 1 locator" It is the aluminum rail that guides the case as it is being pushed to the shell plate. It works correctly most of the time but 1 out of every 13-15 cases falls over somewhere between when it is first dropped and the time is reaches the shell plate. I feel that I am moving way slower than I should have to and it doesn't seem to get any better if I go as slow as I can and still be moving. It does happen more often if I speed up to the speed that I normally run on a 550. The press came already set up with a .223 caliber conversion installed but I have gone back through and double checked to make sure all the relative parts are correct for the caliber. Anyone else had this issue? Also if there are any other things that are specific to the 650 to watch out for i'd love to hear those as well.

I dodged ONE deer and it will never happen again! Spent 3 weeks in the hospital and should have been dead but escaped with my left leg hanging on by a little skin and the right knee torn up pretty bad. My face busted the windshield out but all that earned me was a very light scratch along the hair line. As I spent the next months in a bed I decided that there was absolutely no way that hitting a deer (or 20 deer for that matter) could have been any worse than the 20"dia. cedar tree I ended up centered up on. -

A man with a set of moccasins, gloves and coveralls to go with that face net would never need to climb a tree again! -

Watch out, I made this same "argument" a few months back and finally had to agree to disagree about how great a 5.56 was out of such a short barrel. The .22lr is a perfect description. -

There are definitely big deer around here and this one you posted is a great example! -
I think the idea isn't for pouring containers of solvent down the barrel so much as it is for catching nasty solvent, lead and copper contaminated patches. We all know why this item was originally made in someones home shop so i'm not disputing that but they have got a legal alternate use that they sell it under. I don't think there are many folks out there paying the tax and waiting for 15 months to use these so i'd say that most that are willing to wait and pay the tax are buying an actual suppressor. This is not for those guys, this is for folks that are willing to take the chance using a "solvent trap" as a suppressor out on their farm or other private land where they figure no one is ever gonna know. Anyone that purposely pays a tax, waits 15 months and has there info registered in yet one more government database in order to use this adapter as a suppressor is a moron.

There used to be 3-4 that were awful close to that size that ran out at my folks where I hunt a lot. I haven't seen any of them is 3 or 4 years now so who knows if they are still around. Whitetail have not been in this area (at least not in large number) that long in the whole scheme of things but when they started moving them in they weren't all from the same area. I learned of this from an older gentlemen that recalled back when it was a major deal to see a deer in this area. I know as far as Rutherford county goes he said that out on my side (Lascassas) of the county most of the deer came from Florida where as the deer in the hills over on the Bedford county side were brought in from Michigan I believe is what he told me and were substantially bigger deer. Someone here may be able to back this up or debunk it but I never had any reason to doubt the fellow. -
They have them in stock at Outpost, I didn't catch the price though. Right after I clicked "post" I read the last of your post stating that you found a set. Guess I should read the whole post next time.

No sir, I started to mention that but figured I would see if someone made a guess. It is a Kansas deer and is technically/legally a Whitetail but him and I both suspect that is has a bit of muley in him somewhere along the way. I wish my first buck would have been this size... heck I've killed 75-80+ deer and never taken one this size. -

A really close friend of mine got his first deer this morning and got a pretty good one in my opinion. -

Everyone always thought I was crazy for hunting weather like this but I've taken many deer like this. Glad you at least got to see some move through. -

Nicely done. -
That's a great looking rail! That's really cheap for a rail like that, I may have to go with that for my TGO rifle.
-
Okay thanks. I figured it would show up since it said that the order went through but I was just curious since pretty much anything I have ever ordered online has netted me a confirmation email. Thanks for the reassurance!
-
I forgot how much weight you can put in a flat rate box! I just figured it would cost so much to send that it would bring the price up to average lead prices. Basically I was just meaning I would be happy to get him enough to get him started if he was local. I probably don't need to get into all the shipping side of it though.
-
Well you did better than I did, I ordered one of the $29.99 LPK's a night or so back and it didn't come with a grip. That was the first time I have ordered anything from PSA, do they normally send you a confirmation email? I went through the opening account and purchase process and it popped up saying that my order had been placed but I never received confirmation.
-
Ah. Well I guess that's a bit far to drive for lead and shipping would be prohibitive unless using a flat rate box and I'm not sure if the are any rules about shipping of lead. If you have an "in" with a tire shop you should be okay. We have tons and tons of tire shops here in Murfreesboro but all but a couple already have deals set up with scrap metal haulers and in some cases, other casters. If you think you may start casting then you better go ahead and start collecting lead. Because it's about to get even harder to get. Also just in case you get a hundred or even 200 pounds of lead saved up, don't stop collecting it. A pound of lead disappears really quickly shooting a .45 pistol and 100 pounds doesn't go nearly as far as you would think.
-
Where are you located? I'm on my phone so I can't see it. If you're close I might could help you out with lead if you're needing some.
