  1. Anyone have first hand experiences with the 12 gauge semiauto defensive style shotguns? The common consensus has often been use a pump but the newer breed semi's seem to have taken a niche in the civilian market. One that has caught my eye is the Mossberg 930 SPX. Early quality and reliability web reports were very mixed during the first few years of its' release. But more recent reviews are more positive in terms of build quality and reliability. The Fn SLP and the Benellis seem to be the top choices when budget is not an issue but $$$! The Mossberg is around $600 versus $1200 (Fn) and $1700 (Benelli M4)!!! Any first hand experience with these and other semi's? Thanks
  2. Looking forward to the range updates on the above two new Sabre barreled uppers!
  3. Yes they did. They made uppers and complete M5 models in both direct impingement and piston. The pistons used a variant of the Adams Arms piston system. This was likely within a year of their demise as I recall.
  4. That is a DI mine is a gas piston upper.
  5. That is an excellent price in view of the barrel IMHO! I have a 14.5 inch 1/7 twist chrome lined Sabre that is very accurate by my non scientific standards. A quick sampling of Sabre barrel threads on Arfcom would suggest their barrels were consistently of a high standard.

    Found a new toy.

Another fine piece of M1A goodness to grace these pages lately. Congrats!
  7. I've never understood intentionally mistreating a firearm as mentioned by a few on this thread. Honestly earned handling and usage "character marks" are fine but intentional abuse puzzles me. Nothing wrong with pride of ownership. Queens that are rarely fired have their place. But, when push comes to shove the firearms I most cherish are the couple that have been carried during occasions of uncertainty character marks and all.
  8. Wow! It is a beauty and it is loaded with some nice quality touches! Going back 9 years, I bet it is chocked full of usgi parts. 12 extra mags to! We'll done!
  9. I have to grudgingly agree. I "came into" a Kimber Eclipse Custom II stainless (4 inch bushingless fat barrel) that is reliable, has a fine trigger and accurate. You can't ask for more other than a different roll mark ... : /

    .357 Sig?

If I recall correctly the Texas Hwy Patrol was one of the early adopters of the .357 Sig. They were impressed with it's flat shooting accuracy out to 50 yards. Do you recall the Ruger Police carbines? I've always thought the .357 Sig would be awesome in a package like that. The round has a loud report so expect heads to turn when at the range. : )
  11. Having the Miroku 16" 1892 Takedown (.45 Colt), I am biased towards it. As others have mentioned Miroku's have tight fitment and a rifle or shotgun with a tool mark likely rarely leaves the plant. Absolutely superb craftsmanship that many overlook.
  12. For budgetary reasons something in a 7.62x39 might be a good place to start. It's too bad you had bad luck with your two previous SKS's; maybe the law of averages means the third time would be the charm. A big part of the budget issue with anything in .308 is the cost of practice ammo. It's amazing how the upfront cost of the rifle dwindles after factoring in the ammo costs to keep feeding it. Places like J&G Sales often have bolt options in 7.62x39 such as the Zastava mini-mauser for around $549 or so. But the mag only holds 5 rounds and I don't know about ease of parts availability. Please let us know what you wind up going with. Good luck!
  13. If I ever sprang for one, with my luck I'd get one whose "hand" was near the needs repair stage! Guess there are a few qualified Colt pistolsmiths still kicking. "The "weakness of the old Colt action is the hand that advances the cylinder in the Python also forces the cylinder into tight lockup. This hand is subject to wear and does require repair or replacement when it wears to the point that the timing is off. In the old Colt action this is considered to be normal maintenance, just like changing spark plugs in a car. When the hand wears and the action begins to display improper timing, it's time to have the gun serviced by a qualified Colt pistolsmith. If servicing is delayed, the action can be seriously damaged and the cost of repair can be high."
  14. I also fail to see high sales potential for the 14 lb brute. For well less than $3k the upper end .308 semi AR's like the LMT mws Slickside can be had. Highly accurate, 5 lbs lighter, etc, etc. But, of course, "different strokes" always applies.
  15. Pride of ownership is nice! When you get a chance to exercise it please let us know how it goes. One of my wife's nephews has had one in 45 Colt for several years and he still hasn't taken out! ... I may have to hornswoggle him into me giving it a maiden voyage. : /

    New Ruger SR-762

Glad the issue was found. It's nice to know the Ruger staff remains courteous and helpful. A really good resource when buffer tubes, buffers and springs are the topic is Clint of HeavyBuffers.com. Even if one hasn't bought anything from him he will do his best to figure the issue out.
  17. If the media's motives were in the right place (an oxymoron I know) it would try to tone down coverage of these events that turn out to be less than catastrophic. Every moron knows when they go out with a "bang" they will be on MSNBC, CNN, etc. live ... or recently live. I'm convinced they want to fuel the fire for their political motive of control the sheeple. But, I state the obvious. Their motives are so incredibly immoral.

It must be good ammo according to the description on Palmetto's site, " ... Hunting with PPU ammunition becomes magic, an enchantment, an adventure for memory, tranquility and success for prestige" ... ha, ha who wrote that?

    New Ruger SR-762

"I ordered some PMC Bronze @ .64¢ a round shipped. Not sure if that was good or not." That is a good price from what I have seen lately. Thanks for the update. Hope to see further updates using the PMC. PMC seems to perform well in the .308 reports I've run across. Another promising yet reasonably priced round would be the PriviPartisan that comes in both 145 gr. and 168 gr. I have a hunch that your Ruger with it's 1 in 10 twist will shine with 168 gr.

    New Ruger SR-762

There is a fairly thorough review of the Ruger piston .308 here ... http://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/ruger-sr-762-piston-driven-7-62nato-battle-rifle-new-gun-review/ A key abstract from the article - "We try to be realistic with accuracy testing here, so I mounted a Meopta ZD 1-4×22 on the top rail, in between Ruger’s open sights. The Meopta is one of the best “CQB,” or close quarters battle scopes on the market, clear as a bell even in low light, with a 1 MOA illuminated dot. At 4 power, the dot covers the center dot of these green targets at 100 yards but it is probably the type of scope that most people would put on this gun. The 7.62 NATO/.308 Win. cartridge is effective to 1000 yards, but most people would think of this rifle as a CQB powerhouse that can punch through just about anything, and take a long shot if needed. The holdoff markets on the Meopta are points, not dots, so you can use it on 1x for open eyes, right up close and personal CQB, as well as a 600 yard holdoff shot. The average police sniper shot in the US is only 80 yards, so with this type of scope, the rifle is set up for most every urban situation you will encounter. The 3-Gun shooters also use this type of scope, though they would not use a 7.62/.308 rifle for competition. After zeroing the SR-762 at 50 yards I decided to shoot a 5 shot test group. To my surprise, it measured under an inch across, center to center. Hmmpfh. Let’s try 100 yards. Several 5 round groups later, my average with 150 grain Hornady TAP ammo was about 1 ½ inches, which would translate to 1.5MOA. Then I tried Hornady American Whitetail in the same 150 grain weight. It was even better. Looking around the web, I see that my friend Jeff Quinn at Gunblast put a 20x scope on his Ruger SR-762 and got MOA accuracy out of the gun, even with what he also measured as an unusually heavy trigger. The trigger is heavy, but crisp, and there is no pull-through drag at all. As Jeff noted, the lower on this gun is a standard AR configuration, and it can therefore take drop in triggers to improve performance. Do you need sub-MOA accuracy? It never hurts I guess. But it is amazing that this rifle is already at 1.5 MOA with a 4x scope on the existing trigger, and more like 1 MOA at higher magnification."
  21. If you do pursue the excellent Citori's, you might want to compare the 26" and the 28" barrels especially for clays. Many find the 28" provides smoother control when "passing" through for the shot. Keep an eye out on TGO's for sale listings. I've got a low mileage Citori 425 with the 28" barrel and I need to get off my duff and post it on TGO for sale. My clay days have passed and the 425 needs to find a good home. Enjoy the search!
  22. Very nice grab!   Besides making fine products it seems their customer service (if ever needed) is stellar! There's some pretty good youtube videos featuring that bad Big Boy.    :)

    New Ruger SR-762

Congrats!   Just finding the Gen 3 .308 pmags is a pretty good find much less a cool new piston rig! Looking forward to any future range updates. I'm thinking it is a 16" barrel and maybe 1 in 10 twist? If so, it seems those do especially well on a diet of 168 grain. Ruger may have hit a sweet spot with the SRS-762!
  24. Good to see items like this staying in stock for more than a few minutes. Bravo Company bolts & bcgs sell out quickly simply due to the excellent reputation BCM has garnered. PSA is building a good reputation so I'd venture that their description fits the product along with a very good price! Their photo shows an excellent staking of the bolt carrier key! CMTs are good bolts but I haven't kept up with their current specs.
