1. There are several excellent maintenance guidlines, etc at the commercial GarrandGear website. Extremely informative with excellent photos.
2. I recommend your considering the CZ lineup. Excellent products. Take a look at the 527 carbines in either .223 or 7.62x39. The set triggers combined with their barrel quality is a potent combination.
3. Thanks for making me aware of this program. I have participated and have also forwarded it to others.
4. A nice effort by Shapiro considering there is no such thing as a civil discussion by the media these days unless both parties are in agreement. Responsible civilized media has gone the route of the Doo Doo Bird. It has evolved into a berating obnoxious shouting ridicule of one's "guest". Just another sad example of disrespectful behavior in a country whose culture is fractured and incredibly divisive. But I state the obvious.
5. "I'd like this pistol to have readily available magazines, holsters, (night) sights, etc. In other words, I'd like it to be a combat proven "standard" pistol." The better selling polymers should fill these requirements i.e Glock. The classic Sigs and Beretta's not far behind. A paraphrase of the old saw applies "I show my Custom 1911 to my friends; those threatening my safety would be shown my Glock". Of course if one has high level, ingrained training with a specific firearm that fact likely trumps all other selection criteria.

9mm vs .40

One nice aspect of going .40 is when there is an ammo run (such as is now showing its ugly head) .40 dissappears more slowly than 9mm.
7. Done and done. Seat belt fastened; full speed ahead! These are not the times for complacency.
8. Years ago when I was in the mental health field, the pendulum was actively moving from inpatient to outpatient treatment modalities. It was an understandable "swing" considering an over dependancy on institutionalization and the longterm consequences for some patients. Now, it seems, the pendulum has swung too far and we are paying the price in terms of both patient safety and public safety. Whatever the answer, Ms. Long's poignant reply to this tragedy is a powerful statement. We all owe her our efforts to spread her story. It will serve to focus on the real issue and away from the trite, simplistic howlings of those who want to strip our freedoms. Thank you Ms. Long.

AK vs. SKS

I had my Russian SKS double on its' first range outing, I had failed to do the following ... Take apart the bolt and clean the firing pin. Step 1 for all SKS to lessen likelihood of slam and burst fire. "While early Soviet models had spring-loaded firing pins, most variants of the SKS have a free floating firing pin within the bolt. Because of this design, care must be taken during cleaning (especially after long storage) to ensure that the firing pin does not stick in the forward position within the bolt. SKS firing pins that are stuck in the forward position have been known to cause accidental "slamfires" (uncontrolled automatic fire that empties the magazine, starting when the bolt is released). This behavior is less likely with the hard primer military-spec ammo for which the SKS was designed, but as with any rifle users should properly maintain their firearms. For collectors, slamfires are more likely when the bolt still has remnants of cosmoline embedded in it. The firing pin is triangular in cross section, and slamfires can also result if the firing pin is inserted upside down."

The world of 2030

Fascinating and thought provoking. My wife was wondering if by 2030 they addressed these: On "Days of Our Lives" ..... Does Nick doctor the lab test results? Will Gabi and Nick's wedding be rocked by a series of tragic events? Will Dan's hand tremors be cured?
11.
That is an oldie but goodie.
Just the prices give that away I guess. : /
12.
I am confident I can get my money back out of it if the need ever arrises. Still can't figure out why the seller never mentioned it. He had to have noticed. I bought it from the Sigforum classifieds.
I suspect getting your money back out of it is an underestimate if listed in front of knowledgeable Sig folks.
13. A Double Star AR from a source such as J.T. Distributing (Kentucky?) is good to go (check the AR15 forum for owner comments). Available both assembled and as kits. I think Bud's also sells them. You give up things like M.P.I. inspected bolts 'n such but they are basic and good to go. As said, check out AR15 Forum for user reviews. Posted in AR15 Forum: 12/15/2009 12:11:18 PM [Last Edit: 12/15/2009 12:16:26 PM by AlphaBravoKY] double star has been making rifles and parts for 25 years, longer than alot of the big names, all parts are in house. Great rifles and great 1911 s , also i like the fact the shop is 28 mins from my house doesnt hurt either. buy the double star you wont look back. round count on oldest rifle 2600 to 2700 ,newest rifle 200 , old mil spec 1911 getting close to 1200 , new railed 1911 at 150, all rounds fire in all my guns are reloads and i never had aproblem 110% reliable !!!

AK vs. SKS

If you think you might eventually get both, the AK may dissappear first due to current political trends. The short butt stock of the SKS can be countered with a slip on rubber butt extender. The Russian SKS versions will likely appreciate more over time. Would like to turn back the clock to when crate fulls from Russia were being pumped into the U.S. (post- USSR dissolution). Crates being jacked open at the Gun Shows and selling for around $100! ... sigh, only bought one. It has 9 notches carved in the stock, circa 1951 Tula Armory. If only one I would go for the SKS. Have fun shopping!
15. Blind Cashier at Cabela's: A woman goes into Cabela's to buy a rod and reel for her grandson's birthday. She doesn't know which one to get, so she just grabs one and goes over to the counter. The clerk was standing behind the counter wearing dark glasses. She says to him, "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me anything about this Rod and reel?" He says, "Ma'am, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything from the sound it makes." She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway...... He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-LB. test line. It's a good all-around combination, and it's on sale this week for only $20.00." She says, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!" As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor. "Oh, that sounds like a Master Card," he says. She bends down to pick it up and accidentally farts. At first she is really embarrassed, but then realizes......there is no way the blind clerk could tell it was her who tooted. Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was the only person around? The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $34.50 please." The woman is totally confused by this and asks, "Didn't you tell me the rod and reel were on sale for $20.00? How did you get $34.50?" He replies, "Yes, ma'am. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00, and the Catfish Bait is $3.50." She paid it and left without saying a word.
16. Ha! Thanks for this, it triggered a flood of 1950's memories both safe and dangerous ones: settling up with fights behind the store next to school ... leaning against the floor standing radio listening to the Lone Ranger ... all the neighborhood kids piling into Mr. Alsup's house to watch Gabby Hayes and Howdy Doody (only T.V. on the street) ... "duck and cover" under the school desk (for Atomic Bomb drills ... getting Garand thumb during 9th grade R.O.T.C., "son hold that rifle like you've got something the squirrels want" ... tackle football in street clothes at the Water Works ... running through the drainage ditch system and getting attacked by neighbors' dogs ... exchanging blows on each other with the coach's paddle ... getting slapped upside the head by the coach for talking in Civics Class ... sheesh! We made it!
17. That is odd. You might try loading the problem ones as full as you can get them and let them sit a couple of days to "break in the springs a bit more" then retry.
18.
i know some might be tired of hearing... but a brand new italian 15rnd version at Bud's is $549... just saying
Pardon this thread drift comment - I wonder if the italian's listed at Bud's lack all of the "War & Peace" warning script that is embossed on the U.S. made. That is one reason I value the older Italian examples. Sigh, I need to avoid Beretta threads, it always brings back the thought that I foolishly traded an Italian Inox (stainless) from the early batches. The fit and finish was superb and makes the current U.S. stainless versions pale in the comparison. : (
19. Excellent good fortune! I just viewed a youtube about that firearm that states there were 400 of those shipped to the U.S. from Germany. With the rail it is obviously a newer German manufacture. Many Sig fans value the German proofed and matching serial number Sigs including me! Jealousy here.
20. Look at the 2 rifles flanking it on the table, not exactly junk either: M1A / M14 and possibly early AR15 with triangular hand guard.
21. Quote - "I'm not sure if this would qualify, but can you report FGS to the BBB?" Don't know. I'm so happy with the rifle, I just decided to not cross their threshold any further and to do my part to alert others.
22. DaveTn, I just got my copy from the mailbox today! Looking forward to firing it up on the Tely this evening. Kudos to the GCA for capturing first hand experiences from some of the remaining veterans. We are fortunate this piece of engineering genious and WWII history is still availablle thanks to the CMP. Years ago the ole Garand first intimidated me but intimidation quickly faded and great respect remains. ------------------------------------------------------ Added: Watched it last night, it is History Channel production quality. Much historical photos and video clips. The veteran reflections are priceless "time capsules"!
23. My experience has been converting a Glock 27 to a 9mm using the stainless Lone Wolf conversion barrel. Only used for range not for carry! No issues have developed. In fact it seems to "lock up tighter" and produce tighter groups than a 26 I tried with a stock barrel. I like the little extra forward weight of the thicker conversion barrel vs the stock .40 barrel. My experience convinced me to move from .40 sub-compact to 9mm sub-compact i.e. better double tap results for me.
24.
Glad CZ took care of you, it would be nice if these kind of stories were the norm but unfortunately service after the sale has become something of a pleasant surprise if/when you find it and not something I expect.
Yes indeed. In recognition of this special experience I have reserved this space for two promotional messages: "CZ USA - Where support after the sale is our goal." "Pranklin Gun Shop - Over 6000 Firearms and 1 Azzhat" : /
25. Very nice! The grips on that beauty are sweet! It resembles the previous model Sig 245 DA/SA which is known to be very accurate. Should be a nice slim carry piece. Please let us know your impressions after wringing it out at the range. Life is good!
