Bass Pro attendant on 9mm ammo
I_Like_Pie replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
He didn't know what he was talking about. -
IMHO WW748 is the best for .223. It meters well, burns cool, and is very consistent. As mentioned 4064 wouldn't work as there wouldn't be enough case capacity for a good load....way too slow.
-
A good soak in Kerosene works well...is main ingredient in most of the gun cleaners anyway.

# 9 - Magazines (easy to make a nice long drive for nil)
-
Wow....If you did that with one of the birch stocks you are very good! They typically don't take the stain very well - that looks GREAT!
-
Any way you look at it.....$200 per 1000 of .223 is pretty sweet deal!
-
Huh!?

Make sure to take the online portion if it is offered....will save a day on stuff that really doesn't have to be taught at a classroom.

It is almost impossible (not saying it can't be done) to do a spot touch up on parkerizing. Unless it is rusting just keep it oiled and you should be good to go. Only way to get it to look right would be to park the whole gun again.
-
You are right...for some reason I was confusing it with Gander mountain. Cross your fingers that you get one...they are a really great shop.
-
The one thing that another sandblasting will get you is a blank canvas free of gouges, scars or scrapes. If the gun is already parked and you are happy with the shape of the gun then I see no reason at all to do over what has already been done. Since you have pained before you know that the moly resin is so thin it does not hide any blems. I love projects like yours...little elbow grease, but very satisfactory results. I personally would NOT un-stake the rails inside the receiver for a "complete breakdown." Not sure how far you will break down the receiver, but the peened parts are not worth removing for a job like yours....need a special tool to get it back together without possibility of part failure down the road.

Disassemble it, clean it good with simple green, then use dishwashing liquid, then boil it in a TSP solution. In short made sure that you get all the oil grease out. Once you do that then paint right over the parkerizing. The paint grabs it better than bare metal and the combo is just about the most corrosion resistant finish that you can put on a gun. If you have used the moly resin before then you do know to preheat the parts to about 100F and apply as little paint as needed (don't overdo it) before you bake it. I let the paint dry for a day or two before baking because it smells less awful. Have done several guns just like that one using the same paint and over the same parkerizing with superb results....it simply will never rust. Matter of fact I parkerize first on every gun I paint with moly resin.

Investment casting isn't limited to multiple parts, but has the capability to produce designs that would be almost impossible to machine. This is what makes the process so lucrative...if you can investment cast and save many machining steps you can save money. Depending on the target spec upon design...clean up and finishing is minimal....tolerances of 0.00X are possible. The castings can be made of just about any material...plastic, ceramic, titanium, etc. By very nature of the process...a product can be made as strong, if not stronger than a forged part if someone does the homework on the metallurgy. That decocker lever is investment cast, the sprue is knocked off and it is polished....that is it. Much cheaper than starting with a block of steel and carving it away....just as strong. The MIM is basically sintering. Basically vibrating powdered metal into a mold and melting it like plastic. It is cheap, easy, and gives metallic properties for plastic prices So yes...you are right, but investment cast pieces don't just break off like a MIM part can
-
Investment casting is not M-I-M....It doesn't work like that. One is used for cheap junk like toy cars The other is used for brake calipers on airplanes Sorry to sound nitpicky.
-
The only problem is that they are only found at Academy Sports for that price. Unless you are near Chatt, Nashville, or Knoxville - you may be cheaper to buy a used 870 or 500. Both of which are around $200 used here locally. CLICK HERE For some reason the 18" models are not showing up on their site.

brassmanbrass.com has a lot of it pretty cheap. Prices include shipping. I have ordered in the past from them with no problems.

Mossberg/Maverick Pump $180 out the door. Best deal in SD bar-none. It fits your criteria because it basically is a 500 aside from minor differences (safety position) but every bit as good a gun that will spend 99.9% of its life in a closet - hopefully.

I can see this argument too. Most hunting these days is not for the meat. It is to simply satisfy the urge for a trophy.
-
So I could just park my car on the hill near the bar and coast home!?!?! Awesome!
-
I will third this.

Picked up a sample ballot today . . .

Don't worry about Basil missing....June Griffith is there if you want to vote for someone crazy -
The real problem these days with hunting is that it has become an expensive endeavorer as there is no place to hunt much anymore unless you own your land or want to pay $500+ just for the privilege to hunt on someone else's land. You can easily get a nice cut of meat at the grocer for $6 a pound. For these reasons I can empathize fully with non-hunters simply because these days you have to really work hard for it. ......Unlike fishing where $50 will get you all the gear and licenses you need to feed you for life.

Being raised in TN my opinions on animals are 180 from the OP. I honestly wish that we kept pigs and cows as pets rather than dogs and cats because I could eat them after they have overstayed their welcome. I have compassion for animals, am a 100% prime example of wildlife conservation, and would never kill without a reason....But at the same time have no problem cleaning fish, lopping the head off a chicken, putting roadkill out of its misery, or field dressing after a hunt.
-
I just find it amazing that academy and mossberg can sell these things, as in a whole gun, almost as cheap as everyone else sells just a 18" barrel.
-
They aren't - some dealer really dropped the ball and violated the terms of service with their distributor. Won't make Ruger happy at all. ...but it did let the cat out of the bag for us.
