I am using AA#5 for my .40 loads. I downloaded that same table from Accurate and printed it out. Thats very handy to compare to my other reloading manuals. I am hoping to get out and test my first batch of 180gr .40 rounds tomorrow. The weather has been aweful lately. As for bench shooting and the comfy chair, nah. I have no problem lying down on my mat and shooting from the prone. I actually prefer it. At my range, people tend to fill up the benches quickly, while there is plenty of real estate to unroll my mat.

I have never been to this range and I am unfarmiliar with their policies, aside from whats posted on here. I believe the ammo you purchase is yours, regardless of the purchase location. I would think a person wouldn't want to buy the primers, powder, and bullets, while simply renting the brass case. Since I reload, any ammo I purchase and shoot, I fully intend to reload using the brass. I would have to get one hell-of-a-deal to leave my brass for someone else. But even then I tend to always scavenge for brass when I get the chance. Lately the only ammo I have purchased is JHPs for my .40, everything else I shoot, I have loaded myself.

Just got a response from one of the committee members, Mae Beavers: "I believe we have the votes to pass it without restrictions. Mae" I'm still hopeful.
-
Thats a ridiculous policy. I would collect my brass regardless. What is the difference between buying ammo at Walmart or buying it at the range? NOTHING! It's yours after the cash changes hands.

I am amazed at what a difference of 0.5grains will do to a bullets. Personally, I don't like shooting from the bench. I prefer the prone. Maybe its my past military training, but I find it more stable and simply easier. What is with all this d&mn rain?!?!?!? I would like to shoot this weekend.

Thanks for the email consolidation. EMAILS SENT!

Today I loaded some new test rounds. These are .40S&W 180gr FMJ bullets. Upon comparing the powder charge recommendations from the Speer and Hornady manuals, I went with 3 test charges: 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0 grains. I'm hoping the weather is good this weekend to test these rounds.

Oh really? I need a bigger back yard!

But I know the Knights that say "Neeeek".

Thanks for the reminder.... I need to get some lumber this weekend for my trebuchet.

I have ordered several times from different companies, and I did NOT have to be home. They UPS guy left it on my doorstep. This included 2000rnd of .223, 5000 of .22LR, and 1000rds of 9mm. I might add, this was before the election, when ammo was easier to find.

does your carry permit have to be on you at all times

Maybe the DL members are closer to the people in the comedy series Reno 911. -
I got a chance to shoot my new reloads today at the Gallatin Gun Club. I put together three different loads since the powder charge ranges listed in my books were very wide. I loaded ten rounds of 6.5gr, 7.0gr, and 7.8gr of AA#5. I used 165grain FMJ bullets. Each were shot at 25yds from a prone supported position. The targets were 10" "Shoot N-C". The first shots with the 6.5gr load were low and spread out. The second shots with the 7.0gr load were pretty good. This grouping was much more acceptible. The third shots with 7.8gr load were ugly. I saw a lot of dirt flying. I'm guessing that load was way too hot. All spent cases were in good condition. No obvious signs of over-pressure or deformation. I think I will load a second batch with a 7.0gr charge and see if I can duplicate the results.

I wouldn't say there is a club, but there is definately the satisfaction of saving money when your friends are purchasing ammo at retail prices.

I would still like to come by and check out your operation, once the garage is cleaned out. I think I have a solid footing for reloading, but I realize there is a ton more to learn. I had the chance to buy some decent priced ammo the other day, but I held back. My thought was I can make a better bullet for cheaper in my own basement; why should I pay the higher cost? After I walked out I had a little laugh over my thinking. One of the guys from The Reloaders Bench once said, "soon you will only shoot reloaded ammo". I think he may be on to something. Range report to follow as soon as I get back into town next week. Today and tomorrow are my "weekend" and I'm out of town until next TUE.

After locating a few primers, I finally had had all the components to start reloading 40S&W. It took me about an hour to get everything setup. After tinkering with the powder charge I was all set. I reloaded my first ten rounds tonight.

I got 2 letters from them. I guess I must be extra special. Now I can get TWO badges, all for a small donation of $180!

Is it me or is that B#tch ugly? The sound of her voice even makes my skin crawl. As a veteran, I take great offense to HER report. Regardless of the labels they wish to place on me, I will never stop loving or fighting for this country.

It kills me that the Brady Bunch did the following: "Gun control groups filed a lawsuit charging the Bush administration violated several laws when issuing the rule, such as failing to conduct a thorough environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act. " What is the environmental impact of a person walking/hiking/camping in a park with a gun, and a person walking/hiking/camping in a park without a gun? I'm not one to go out and hug a tree, but I think the difference is negligible. It's no surprise the current administration doesn't raise a finger.

Reminds me of this clip from the movie Team America. Funny how a comedy mirrors real life. WARNING- Explicit language! Team America: World Police - Kim Jong Il Takes On Hans Blix

I can imagine. I called today looking for small pistol primers. I knew the answer before I called, but I have to go through the motions.

I only need 5000 or so.
