  1. Pictures usually help. That way we can confirm if it's been run over by a truck or something. GLWS
  2. hah. it's like electric cars. oh and the alien is 6 of course. *edit* nvm, you said "E"
  3. Asus is what I left. I liked it, but the coverage wasn't great. It also randomly had to be factory reset. It would lock up or just stop working. That's with and without firmware updates.
  4. If you pick one up, give us a review. I like my gear but I have some pretty heavy speed loss on my AP (could be the model of AP). I'm 600 down/400 up and even with the wired AP, the other side of the house gets around 300/200. Not unlivable by any means, but seems wasteful.
  5. so true it hurts. ***edit*** not saying i approve. But definitely seen it first hand.
  6. I wanted an Alien but when I was shopping, it was just announced. I would need two because i only allow 5ghz in my house Instead I went with the Dream Machine and and one AC Pro AP. No wifi 6 though which stinks, but it's still plenty powerful.
  7. Wrote that after an exhausting day rebuilding a fence, so let me provide a bit more. https://www.amplifi.com/instant Their Amplifi line is meant for home applications. I hear they're good, though I'm not sure about the admin interface. if it's anything like my Ubiquiti Dream Machine, you need to have some networking background. It's not Cisco level, but it's not the paint-by-numbers Linksys interface.
  8. Ubiquti has some nice products. not the cheapest though.
  9. I wrote this response 2-3 times, trying not to sound preachy. I don't think I'll achieve that here, but here goes 1. 99% of IoT devices are imported junk with no business on your wifi. There are no controls around this stuff and how secure it is. Even major players like Samsung have been found to have some sketchy stuff in their smart TVs. How much should we trust XaoBing "branded" LED light strips that hook into our wifi? There are no task forces out there monitoring what kind of chips are put in these devices or where they're shipping off data. 2. Anything with a mic is recording. Anything with a camera is recording or snapping pictures. Period. 3. The developers who write the code for most of these devices are being pushed by a business to get it out the door ASAP! You can thank Microsoft for the iterative deployment methodology (release unfinished, fix it later.. presumably). 4. There are been quite a few attacks on US infrastructure from IoT botnets. About 5 years ago, the entire eastern half of the US couldn't get to the internet for several hours because there was an army of thermostats, lightbulbs, etc all attacking the DNS servers in the East. 5. Even if the device comes from a major provider with a dedicated Cyber Security division (and don't hate on me cyber guys), but most of them suck. Sure, there are some white/grey hats out there doing God's work... but most of these people only do paperwork and talk about controls, mitigation, etc. Half of them don't even understand the tech they're supposed to oversee. There's just a policy that says... hackers should not hack us, so.... we're good. Legal approves. 6. Most companies will get away with whatever they want until they are caught. Look at facebook. They're quite literally watching EVERYTHING you do online. Finally, someone will realize "hhey, you're taking my <whatever>" and sue. Then they'll just settle and put that in their 500 page Eula for no one to read. 7. Lastly, on a different note. The older I get, the less tech I want. I think it's making people soft. The day I retire, my phone is going right into a pond.... well, cept youtube i guess. Otherwise i couldn't fix a car. </rantoff>
  10. dang, sorry to hear that.
  11. I'm boring and do what most people do I think Jeeper - So parts and light offroading (still paying for it) Firearms - Obviously. I really enjoy refinishing old military issue firearms. The more cosmo, the better. IT stuff - gaming, tech, etc. Though because i've seen behind the curtain for 19 years, I don't do IoT devices Traveling - specifically in the jeep. Just... getting out into the woods or backroads i've never driven Church - Whatever is needed, whenever it's need. We do a lot of community assistance. I may be on a mission trip soon Cars in general - I like to tinker. I would love to restore one. Maybe restomod, but i need a larger garage first I picture myself traveling a bit but ultimately I want 20 acres of woods, a one story house for the wife myself. That way I can leave it to the kids when it's time. But the big thing for me is going to be volunteer work I think. Finding some way to pay it forward because I've learned so much in this life already that I can give to others. Whatever I do, I would like it too lead to a headstone that says....."he was a pretty good dude".
  12. I find myself reading all news networks. There isn't "one you can trust", even with local news. The spin is always there so if it's a topic i feel heavily about, i read as many places as i can to decide. Now, that's far and few between because i find that my life and happiness improve SIGNIFICANTLY by not turning on the news at all.
  13. Lost some fence but didn't lose my life. God is good.
  14. gang violence... so young...
  15. I've ordered a set of extractors and left hand bits. Hoping those show up this weekend to test it with. In the meantime I'm gonna pick up a soldering pen locally.
  16. I never wanted a sub2000 until they got expensive. Go figure right? Definitely get the appeal of this S&W. Being able to leave an optic on is great for instance. For me though, i'm looking for a folding beater gun that i can throw in a box and use if i need it. So the cheaper, the better. When you start getting into $650-$700 range, then i start wondering why i'm not buying something nicer. #cheapbutnothighpoint
  17. that's the issue though. New scorpion, new mags. The old mags won't work on the new gun, but the NEW mags work on the old guns. Don't that just beat all? I should add that I never bought CZ's actual magazines anyways.... Manticore and Magpul did a better job
  18. Posting again to let everyone know that I'm bowing out, so this is still available. GLWS OP!
  19. Can I just get the firearm and the mags? If so, i'm in.
  20. So, obviously its complete and utter BS that you would get punished for someone breaking into your property... that's absurd. However.. I did hear the news report that something like 167 firearms were stolen from cars in Nashville in January. ONE FLIPPIN MONTH! So while I don't agree with it IN THE SLIGHTEST, I do kinda see WHY they would create a bill like this. Maybe assuming that the law abiding folks will do as they are told and, by proxy, not arm the criminal goon squad. However again... that's like making a woman wear a burka because, she might accidentally tempt a man. So we're back at "screw this bill".
  21. I think they're smart about the mag compatibility. There have been a number of PCCs/handfuns I've ignored because my mags wouldn't work in the new version. The Scorpion being the prime example. Why on earth are the new mags backwards compatible with older models and not visa versa. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's hard as hell to sell old magazines to recoup for buying a new set. *Edit* phone turned handguns into handfuns... But I kinda like it, so the typo will stay.
  22. The Kel Tec price tag is a lot better looking, that's for sure.
