Those grips look pretty nice.

In case you don't get the paper, it appears that Shelby Farms park management has been handed over to a non-profit agency Shelby Farms Conservancy. This agency will be allowed to raise PRIVATE funds for the operation of the park. Looks like it is time to get together in this area to see what we can do about getting the range re-opened. Let us not sit on this one. I plan on finding out who to call on Monday to get the ball rolling. I know there are members here that work for other local ranges, but I don't see how having this one place re-opened would hurt a lot of their business being as this would be the one place in Shelby County where you could shoot those long range rifles with plain old ball ammo. Who is with me on this? We should talk with the local Friends of the NRA and TFA chapters. I reckon I should join that one too so we can see what we can do. Help me out people, we need this place re-opened.

Mosin will be in the future I think. After the Kel-Tec

It also goes to show that by giving a bit of respect, you get it back in spades. Treat the officer how you want to be treated and you are less likely to have to pay a fine is what I have found.

Remember the French have won one war of their own. Of course they also lost it. The French Revolution.

Neero - when I get time (and the kids and wife are agreeable) I shoot at RangeUSA. I haven't been in a while due to changing jobs and trying to get settled. I like the Tipton idea, I just usually can't get away for as long as it takes to drive up there and back. I usually get about an hour and a half away for shooting.

Welcome from another Memphian. There are quite a few of us running around. We really need to get together and do a shoot or a dinner or something.

Hey, I have both and have carried both. All guns have their purpose. I like the Beretta and soon (end of August) I will have a Kel-Tec. End of December the AR. So, I guess that will round it out for me. One day I will get the Walther P99, but the other two are higher on my list.

Two robbers shot in East Memphis
saintsfanbrian replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Lincoln, If you build it in Orange Mound, it is likely that your armed gaurds would be the ones that stole it from you. Seriously though, this area used to be a semi nice area where not to much happened. Now you hear about this type of thing from almost every section of the city. -
Texas State Lawmaker Opposing Deadly Force Bill Shoots Would-Be Thief

Transporting Firearms via Airline
saintsfanbrian replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yes, but wouldn't it be just as easy to purchase the ammunition where you are going rather than having to lug it on the plane and in your bags? 11 pounds of ammo is a lot if you have a long walk with your bags once you get where you are going. Make sure to carry a copy of the airlines policy with you. Some ticketing agents are not aware of the provisions for doing this and you don't want a hold up, and get there early and insure the guns for theft or loss by the carrier. -
There just aren’t enough people carrying
saintsfanbrian replied to DaveTN's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Dave, I agree fully. This is the exact reason why I got a permit and I started carrying. To expect law enforcement to be there before or during an incident is like expecting your boss to give you a 100% raise. It just ain't gonna happen. I would love to see more stories end with, a permitted firearms owner ended the confrontation. Or better yet, a legally armed citizen that has no need for a permit because the Constitution said he could carry. -
You can't do the fingerprinting at the same time. You have to do that a day or two afterwards. Look around for the best place to go. My local range does it.

Ah, here we go again. Port this, polish that, I think that the majority of the larger calibers are ported to aid in hunting. Then again, what do I know, I don't have one and probably never will.

Packing in a hotel that has a bar?
saintsfanbrian replied to Marswolf's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Sounds like a plan, Mars. Shall we make up little cards to send to the restaurant association/proprietor to let them know that until they are on board with us being allowed to legally carry in their establishments, we won't be frequenting them? -
Well, the good news is that you shoot 48 times. The long distances consist of I think 12 shots. The rest of the shots are done at like 7 and 12 feet (I think, it has been almost 4 years since I took the class)
-
Ahh, but right there on the front row. One of Mars most hated firearms. A Glock. Bad form commenting on the trigger oops by 4 of the members of the crew, especially since 2 of them are friends of the OP.

Mars - you were just lucky I guess.

Okay, first off, how does the officer know by running the plates that I have an HCP? The HCP is tied to a drivers license not a vehicle registration. I could loan my car to my brother in law that doesn't have an HCP and your friend or any other officer wouldn't be any the wiser as to who is driving the vehicle. I can understand the officer walking up to ANY vehicle with their hand on their firearms. We live in dangerous times and it is their safety that they are worried about first. That is fine with me, as my safety (when I am alone) or my families safety is the FIRST thing that I am worried about. If Bubba the officer starts affecting a felony arrest on me for a simple speeding violation, then I hope like heck his dashboard cam is running in order to cover HIS rearend because there will be charges levied. Now, if I am speeding through town and do not yield to lights and sirens when I see them behind me then I can understand. Otherwise, get out of your cruiser, walk up to my car (cautiously understood) and ask me for my license, registration and proof of insurance. With the exception of the registration, I keep all of that (including my permit) together in the same part of my wallet. I hand all of that to the officer (including the permit.) I know TN state law doesn't require me to inform the officer, but I think if I let him know on the front end that I am one of the "good guys" both of our time spent together will go a lot smoother and we both will be a little more at ease. He will know, by that simple act, that other than going a little too fast, or forgetting to signal a lane change, or having a broken taillight fixed, that I am not a ruthless criminal out to do him any harm. At least that is my hope of how the officer will take it. Now, if the officer decides to still disarm me over a simple speeding ticket, sure, as long as he isn't going to go running off with my gun on some other call and leave me defenseless and as long as he realizes that for the duration of our interaction, my and my families safety is HIS responsibility should some thing happen. I still can't see myself using force against a police officer that is being overly agressive. I can see myself "curling up" in a ball on the ground to protect my vitals. I sometimes think about getting a dashboard and trunk cam for my cars. Just incase you get that overzealous officer that feels they have something to prove and will take a simple "What seems to be the problem officer" as resisting arrest. I know that there aren't many of those out there, but they are out there.

10 Points on Concealed Carry
saintsfanbrian replied to waynesan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Open carry is completely legal here in TN with a valid HCP. I do it quite frequently and I don't think twice about it. Well not anymore, I used to. I have been in places where police officers are and I have been in places where the employees would normally not expect it. Frequently I do conceal carry, this is in places where I think it will be more comfortable for the patrons or where I am more comfortable that I won't necessarily need it quickly. Whether I open carry or concealed carry also depends on what I have on that day. Headed to work and will have to disarm before getting on the property, Open carry. Headed to the mall and will likely not need to remove it, probably concealed. If more of us took the time to display in some small way, the fact that we are carrying, the average Joe on the street will get more accustomed to seeing it and will realize that HCP people are just regular people that don't wait for the police to protect them. -
Wouldn't it be a better idea to ask the individual that you suspect is the person who committed a crime for their drivers license? At which point, many people on this board have already stated that if they are carrying, they will hand over both license and VALID TN HCP. Rather than pulling your gun out and aiming it at a person who you THINK is GUILTY of a crime, wouldn't it be better to talk peacefully with the person? Remember, and this goes ESPECIALLY to LE, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Many of the young police officers that are fresh out of training are a.) scarred ****less on their first real interactions with the public for something other than a speeding ticket and b.) trying to "prove" their "authority" so they will be seen as "equals" in the eyes of veteran officers. This is not first hand knowledge since I am not an LEO, but it is what I have gleaned from years of being friends with some and working with others in various other jobs. You can say I am wrong, but that is an opionion that I have come up with after years of dealing with LEO. I admit there are plenty out there that are great officers, but to automatically draw your weapon on some one that is peacefully walking down the street, or driving a car that matches an "eye witness" account of a perpetrator seems a bit extreme to me since often times, "eye witnesses" don't know their butts from a hole in the ground. My opinions only, flame away if you wish.

Okay, gentlemen, let us all keep this on a civil tone. There is no need for from ANYONE. Whether anyone likes it or not, NO ONE is better than anyone else. We ALL have flaws, be it geographical challenges, typing skills, or vocabulary just to name a few. Remember, ladies and gentlemen, there has been only 1 perfect being to walk the face of this planet, and he was crucified and we have perfected tools a heck of a lot since then (nail gun anyone?) Sorry to any non-christians, you have your religious icons too and that is cool.To stay on topic. The original poster was upset that a gun store was not open during hours which were convenient to him. I think we ALL can think of a store that we would like to have open at more convenient times for us. I know that having to "wait" to purchase a beer or a glass of wine at my favorite restaurant on Sunday is a bit rediculous, but that is the law, and if I want a beer on Sunday, I better buy it on Saturday or wait. I also wish that places like the interior of the mall opened at 9 on Sunday. They have a nice little play yard for the kids and it is climate controlled so on these hot muggy days of summer, I can take the kids to get some energy out with out having to take a shower afterwards. The north is a fine place to live. I have lived near D.C. and in Dover, DE. There are some fine people in both of those places. They have some cooky laws up there too, but that is besides the point. I realize this is Tennessee Gun Owners and not GOA, but that doesn't mean we should be Anti anywhere else. Though there is a funny joke: "What's the difference between a yankee and a damn yankee? A damn yankee won't go home." That is only a joke. I know plenty of "yankees" that would be welcome in my home far before any Joe Redneck's, but that is a matter of personal preference. If we can't all "play nice" Tungsten will not keep this board around for us, and then where would we all be?

Personally, I don't really care who makes it, the first thing I do when I get a new computer is reformat the hard drive and re-install the OS and applications that I want on it. I get sick and tired of all of the bonus software that computer manufacturers put on new computers that is trial ware. I know they get money from the software manufacturers but that doesn't mean I have to keep it.

I once drove from Memphis to Jackson, TN to get my permit done. I don't remember what day of the week it was that I went there, but once I got to the parking lot at around noon, I knew somethign was wrong. They were closed. Come to find out, this particular station closes on that day so they can be open extended hours on the other days of the week. With that new knowledge in mind, I made a note of the days they were open, planned my next vacation day and was one of the first people in line that morning. Oh, and even with 2 round trips to Jackson, I still spend less time than if I had gone to one of the centers in Memphis. As for store hours, since I have two small children that LOVE to wake up at 5 AM EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK, I would love it if more places opened prior to noon on Sunday's just so I have some place to take them. They get wrestless at home, even playing in the back yard gets boring. Fortunately the zoo opens at 9 so we can usually be found there on a Sunday morning. Anyone with little ones want to meet up one Sunday, let me know. We like the chimps at the Panda exhibit. As for spelling and punctuation, if you think anyone on here is bad, you should check out a particular member on one of the other forums that I usually frequent. The guy couldn't spell "A" to save his life. He's a nice guy though and knows a thing or two about his guns and he loves Saiga's. Mars knows who I am talking about.

You could always try ubuntu linux. It runs from a CD until you decide whether or not you want to keep it. Personally, I don't have time for the learning curve of Linux or a Mac, but since you can run windows on a Mac, an IBook might not be a bad option either.
