  1. Thanks Chip. What about Oh Shoot's comment on showing a weapon? I would perceive that as a simple warning, but others opine that it's unjustified deadly force, assault, or escalation.
  2. There's more than letting the chips fall where they may. When you look like I do to the uninformed it's an uphill battle. You simply can't say that the dips##t picked the wrong gimp to screw with and move on.
  3. The short version is: mental preparation. It helps condition your brain to act rather than freeze if you've already thought it through - which is a far greater problem than most people are willing to admit to themselves. That's why as a LEO one of the first classes that I took at the MHP Academy was Red Handled Gun which trains you to rapidly transition from yellow/orange to red.
  4. I've been watching a video series from Concealed Carry University, and it's got me thinking a lot about self-defense as I get older. Particularly, it's brought up the question of what defines reasonable fear of serious bodily harm in relation to my age and health?   Now I'm a 54 year old who's 6'4" and 290 lbs. I'm a former Marine and LEO who did study martial arts for a few years, but that was over 20 years ago and I didn't reach brown belt status, (I was ready to test but never did). Just standing in front of the normal person I would seem still perfectly capable of defending myself from most others should the need arise: however, what's underneath tells the true story. I have had two back surgeries, have stage 3 kidney failure, and polyneuropathy due to diabetes. I have arthritis in my back, hip, and I have left foot/ankle problems from the polyneuropathy. I walk with a limp of varying severity that seems dependent upon what day it is. It would be unrealistic for me to expect to be able to either run away from, or defend myself against, even just one younger male who's intent on doing me harm, and since statistically that's the likely scenario in an attack it makes this problem extremely relevant. Unless I were to be very lucky and land a decisive block/counterpunch I'm going to get beat badly. Now I know better than to intentionally escalate a situation, but we also know that you can do everything right to no avail. Since most seem to think that I can't warn someone that I'm in possession of a gun, (besides losing tactical advantage), that doesn't seem to leave me many options.   So is there case law that demonstrates what "reasonable fear of serious bodily harm" would be here in Tennessee? My guess is that it is completely subjective to whom is making the judgement, but I thought it would be worth the discussion amongst the forum's legal experts.
  5. "Oh sweet victory at last I almost found you!"
  6. If I had to put money on it wihtout seeing the process I'd swear that the hammer was machine made. Great work!
  7. That was funny!
  8. I didn't claim that they weren't following their bylaws although I doubt you've read them to know that as fact just as I haven't, but I do know that the board is responsible for doing what's best for the share holders. I see this a no different than buying a share of stock in HP and then demanding a vote on stopping the sales of computers because they are used for Internet pornography.
  9. I can't tell the difference anymore.
  10. Maybe they'll pass it in order to see what's in it!
  11. My father couldn't understand why I thought Blazing Saddles was hilarious. I will still watch it today and laugh - particularly at "Mongo" and "Headley Lamarr" characters. What's wrong with laughing at stupidity regardless of its roots? I also have Young Frankenstein that I break out every once in a while.
  12. Perhaps, but did Walmart sell these items before the church bought stock? Do you expouse buying controlling, or major, shares to force a business to change its business model based upon emotion rather than business needs?
  13. Walmart is not the state, but the church is free to sell their stocks at any time.
  14. There's laws against that.
  15. Not a nuke since the flash isn't bright enough and it is orange. But I call BS on the one report from the Ukraine saying that it was from a dropped cigarette.
  16. That may or may not be true, but in this kind of format how a message is perceived is on the performer. But IMO, ignorantly insulting a large group of people just to sell a song is demonstrating yourself to be a lowlife. Another word for profiling is "stereotyping" that I'm sure numbnuts claims as being wrong making him a hypocrite.
  17. Police not doing their job would be an interesting topic. EDIT: Especially considering the proplem of theft of other metals in the news.
  18. I'd think that the local news would be interested in this story.
  19. Not anger, but the pinnacle reason for my dislike for him is his song, Southern Man, because he stereotypes all men in the South as racists who are cracking whips at the black folks. I was raised in Kansas City, MO and knew many people from further North, and I see more racism in the Northern white man than I have ever seen in the Southern white man.
  20. Sorry, I'd rather piss on Young's grave.
  21. Yeah, the ranchers were basically calling BS on their protected status, and in this case I tend to agree with them. They are more prevalent than wolves and eagles...at least around here.
  22. The local news did a report interviewing ranchers about the problems with the black vultures and how they are a protected, and the ranchers were who made that claim. They said that while the cow was giving birth the vultures would blind her and then go after the calf upon its birth. I'm not a rancher, so I don't know, but it sounded reasonable to me. I know they are all over the place around here, so with that many beaks to feed they all can't be patiently waiting on a branch for something to die.
  23. Isn't a Black Vulture considered a bird of prey, and don't the livestock owners hate those #%&$ things because they blind their cattle and kill the calves?   I do share the sentiment against those who would harm an eagle or hawk for the giggles of it.
  24. Do you realize that's exactly what the liberals say about conservatives?
