Nothing like the blast of a gun to decrease your chances of hearing another threat! -

And a shotgun doesn't? Before I left the department there was a study showing that a carbine was a far superior choice because you weren't sending out multiple projectiles with every squeeze of the trigger. There wasn't much of a choice for carbines, so I carried an AR15-A2 instead. -

Lack of respect isn't exactly a modern phenomenon. It comes with the territory that you accept when you accept the job. The same thing goes with the pay: if you don't like the pay then find another profession! -

In my department I reported a bad officer who was the former Chief of Police and a 25-year friend of the current Chief of Police. He in fact was guilty of 1st degree assault as well as violating the rights of the same person, (de facto arrest without probable cause). I was the one punished for it - or at least they tried to but I quit rather than allowed it to happen. -

Like DaveTN, I too am a former policeman from another state as well as military, and I am extremely proud of my service in both venues. I recognize that this is TGO David's site and that he makes the rules whether I agree with them or not. The problem is the definition of "Cop Bashing" is pretty subjective. I consider some A-hole coming on here and saying that all cops suck for _____ reason is cop bashing that shouldn't be tolerated, but I do not consider discussion of a particular cop's actions as such. As far as my former cop life I still have a pretty thick skin about it, and if a police officer doesn't have thick skin I suggest that they find another profession. You work a highly demanding position that can also be VERY visible and certainly scrutinized, but it is a profession that YOU chose. To be intolerant of criticism of some other officer's action is pretty silly in my opinion. I respect LEOs on this forum who stand-up to critics for righteous actions and condemn the unrighteous actions. I have no respect for those who keep quiet or leave the forum butt-hurt because discussion, (and even anger), over an unrighteous act takes place. But let's put this in perspective: how many times over the years have I seen posts on this forum insulting my Christian beliefs? I'm a technical sales rep for a large IT company in Nashville, so how often do I see insults towards salesmen in general and my company? Do I deserve less protection from this than LEOs do on this forum? Am I less valued as a member? Food for thought. -
Back in the early 90's when I was a LEO this tactic started, but we were told that you couldn't detain for an unreasonable amount of time for a traffic stop which was determined to be 45 minutes. I remember laughing at the time about that because I NEVER had a normal traffic stop last anywhere near 45 minutes. What this will lead to is the LEO screwing around about writing the ticket until the dog arrives to "sniff the air."

I've always disliked whiskey but I like Fireball. It's a no brainer for me because I like cinnamon candy.

So do you think Chicago will learn from this?

I wrestle with that logic too, but I have experienced road rage one time when I have no idea what I could have done to set them off.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/concealed-carry-licensed-uber-driver-shoots-gunman-court-says/ar-AAbl22b Didn't take long for some good to come out of their carry laws even though it was a shotgun.

I changed the link to the one Dave supplied. It must have been because I'm signed into WSMV.

Ah, ok.

Why'd you post the same WSMV link that I posted?

I thought that you ain't seen nothin' 'til you're down on a muffin? -
The difference here, however, is that law enforcement goes through a far greater screening process than civilian employment. I have never had a civilian employer administer a psychological test let alone have me undergo a psychological screening performed by a psychologist. This is why I think it's not valid to compare the frequency of dipsticks in the civilian world to law enforcement.

What do you expect from a state that has a driver's examination just one notch tougher than getting your license out of a box of Post Toasties? -
Where I was a cop, (Claycomo, MO), we had the Claycomo Ford Assembly Plant. We had to drive Fords when at the time, (late 80's), they didn't offer the best choice for a patrol vehicle. The plus side was that Ford leased us our cars VERY cheaply, so we got new cars every two years. Our Mayor liked the color red, so my Chief always ordered red patrol cars which made us look like fire department. I was so happy when Ford discontinued red on the Crown Victoria.

The Supreme Court threw the former out long ago when they ruled that the police have no duty to protect you.

I was flipped off many times as a cop. I never tried to find a reason to cite them for it because contempt of cop isn't illegal and the Supreme Court had ruled that you cannot disturb a cop's peace because their job is inherently NOT peaceful.
