  1. Wasn't the fire started by the branch guys?
  2. I think of it like this; run-of-the-mill home invasions they are looking for a quick buck because they think you have money on the premises, or tweekers wanting to check your medicine cabinet.  Armed resistance will more than likely have them on the run quickly.    Home invasions where they have a purpose, say they know you have a large collection of weapons they or their gang can use, drugs and the money that goes with it, jewelry they seen you or your wife wearing etc.  In this scenario they will come prepared, this is the one that is less likely for me, as I don't have anything like that in the house and I don't or would not advertise if I did.  This is one where a saferoom or some such is warranted, but since its expensive setup only those with a high likelihood of these occurrences can afford one.   Riots, civil unrest etc.  As has been said, not very likely and only those that are near a flashpoint need to worry about this.  If a home/store owner downtown or near a courthouse or some other high probability area, its best to vacate the area.  This is where a sidearm and a rifle/shotgun may come in handy if rioters try to prevent you from leaving in a hostile way.   Natural disaster, most likely scenario.  If its a localized event, say a tornado or medium to large storm.  A sidearm to protect your property from looters would more than likely be sufficient.  A chainsaw and generator will come in handy until power is restored or until you can pack whatever is left of your belongings and get to a permanent/semi-permanent shelter.    If its a large event like say a meteor strike, super volcano, or another katrina storm then its more of a survival like scenario.  Food, water and shelter with weapons to protect what you have will be needed for as long as it takes until national guard or other organized help gets in and settles things down.  If its a world wide killer asteroid like event, well I guess I go looking for Jennifer Anniston to keep me company until the end.
  3. You mean she hasn't got to you yet? I'll send her along soon.   I am with you on that, I am worried more about storms than I am full out armed defense.  Having said that, I am prepared to defend my family and home in the off chance of a home invasion type scenario.  Being retired military I have plenty of training and gear to put up a heck of a resistance even to the most determined foe, but I am no fool.  If someone wants to get you bad enough and is willing to trade their lives for yours, or its a large enough group it will be a bad day, no matter how well prepared you are.

    ied minefield

That is why we need some predators keeping an eye on things at night when they try to emplace these; Target aquired, clear to fire.
  5. Honestly, there is no practical way to be prepared for something that in all probability will not happen. That does not mean not to think of a plan with what you have, but if you allow paranoia to run your life you will waste alot of money on things you will never use. Its wise to have a few days rations, water and a few survival items and a self defense plan with weapons and ammo. The most probable thing to happen is a natural disaster, tornado, earth quake, volcanic eruption etc so those things can help you survive for a bit. Learning survival techniques is also important, and not off some reality show; honest hands on training with firearms and improvised methods included.
  6. I try not to, I have a few flex cuffs left but they are a one time use type so have, thankfully, not had to use any in the US.  My other cuffs have fuzzy covers and left at home
  7. I think it starts as a 2x4 rough sawn but shrinks as it gets sanded and dried, that is why rough sewn lumber is, usually, actual dimensions (or close to) and store bought is smaller.
  8. That sucks, sorry to hear it.  You should add the serial number to as many stolen weapons databases as you can to disseminate it as widely as possible.
  9. The problem is, you may not know what kind of unrest you are getting into. During the LA Riots, some were pulled from their vehicles and assaulted. If you know a riot is going on and you have a loved one in the midst (non involved) you may have to forcibly extract them if this type of riot is going on. Of course if you have no business in the area then turn around or go around. In MO, it seems that it was in nighttime that all the violence happened so anyone with business in the area had plenty of time to leave before then. If you are caught in the mallei because of error in judgment (they wont hurt me) or were part of the festivities then you are part of the problem to begin with.
  10. I would totally expect incoming rounds, and it would not be the first time. Even if it were a 1 on 1 situation, if the situation warranted me pulling my gun then I expect the worst. I just hope my training and luck continues to be better than my opponents.
  11. Me, I'd load my AR pistol in 300blk with an ammo can full of loaded mags. My glock 23 would be my backup. The 10.5 barrel is great in confined spaces and perfectly legal to carry locked and loaded.
  12. I am with Sam1, apple has never impressed me. Their macs were always way too expensive and proprietary, I had to wait forever to install software available on pc. I got an iPhone when a&tt was about to get rid of unlimited data plans but rooted it almost immediately due to proprietary apps. I upgraded to a Samsung galaxy s3 phone and galaxy 10" tablet, which play great together, and haven't looked back since.
  13. Yup, not U.S code. They sure make gun owners feel welcome to their state, I think I would rethink my travel plans if I had anything to visit there for.
  14. Sure hope so, I would hate to have these guys slip through if they are guilty.
  15. Definitely, since he is actually staying there at least overnight not straight through but the first part says INTO. There are links there to the actual U.S Code though. http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_ag2.html
  16. I would check here: http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_trans.html
  17. Well shoot, any prosecutor would absolutely be able to argue that I had a "kit" in my truck if I was ever accused of any type of crime being theft, murder or kidnapping. I currently carry zip ties (small to large), tape, a tarp, hack saw, knives, and even a set of bolt cutters along with other suspicious tools in my truck.
  18. +1, I think there is something wrong with that picture. A presume she did not know the perps and would of resisted them so it would of not looked like it may of been her boyfriend. I would also like to know more about the supposed video, do they actually have it? I know they will not, and should not tip their hand yet but it will be interesting to find out how many people saw the video before someone reported it.
  19. The closest one, then the next closest until the pursuit stops.   I am a proponent that you should not run away unless you are sure they are much slower. Running just makes it more difficult to get a good bead on a pursuer and may lead you to trip and drop your weapon.
  20. yup, good use for those pesky zinc wheel weights.
  21. Yea, I've heard that but never seen any sign of them or heard of anyone say they dropped one. They also used to be shotgun, BP only so range was an issue if you did see one. I bought a magazine fed rifled SG when I hunted FTCKY, now it just sits here collecting dust.
  22. The problem is, some say leave me alone I dont need your services then things like this happen and people are all up in arms because nobody helped. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/04/firefighters-watch-as-hom_n_750272.html Though I don't think this guy was an anarchist or isolationist the situation fits this situation.
  23. Try casting your own; its not that difficult. http://www.webcomsknkwrks.com/castbook.htm
  24. I agree about them not being mutually inclusive; but has there been any white kids running around doing things like this lately? Whether attacking other white kids or black ones? I don't recall any, but of course it depends on the news coverage to broadcast the incidents for me to be aware of them. And sorry, but it does baffle me as to why the reaction to this particular incident bothers you so much; is it because of the black/white mix or is it the disparaging comments about Memphis?
