  1. Understood, I was just simply commenting that it depends on the definition of "pass/fail."
  2. caveat: I haven't taught a "permit" class in a couple of years, so my reply is based on something that may have changed. It depends on your definition of "pass/fail." (unless it has changed) you have to score 70 percent. If you fire 50 rounds, 35 of them have to hit the target silhouette. (although, the actual required number of rounds was 48, not 50, most places I'm familiar with fire 50 since a typical box of ammo is 50 rounds)
  3. Sorry, but I snickered a little when I read that. Once it has 150,000 rounds fired through it with no mechanical problems, then I'll concede that you're right.
  4. By two day class, I was referring to a class that takes 4 hours on two days instead of 8 hours on one day. Either way it's 8 hours. If you're referring to a class that is 8 hours both days, we're talking about something different.
  5. I have heard quite a few people say that a two-day format is better for them because it's too much to do in one day, so I would submit that "waste of time" is simply a matter of opinion.
  6. Wouldn't the city be considered governmental?
  7. I've carried to several interviews. I've also carried at jobs.
  8. Totally off topic: "French Broad Overlook" That's funny right there.

    Packing Heat?

Speaking from personal experience, there are (at least) several places that never mention that the TN HCP is not a CCP, and, in fact, some instructors that (IMO) imply that it is a CCP but never say it directly
  10. The KJV translates it at "kill." However, I'm not sure how historical that is considered, since it's only a few hundred years old. Mine too. Too many people believe THEY are right and everybody else on the planet is wrong.
  11. I guess a lot of that boils down to whether a person things the King James Version is the only correct version of the Bible. Personally, I believe the sixth commandment is "Thou shalt not murder." Two reasons: One, the original Hebrew text, based on my (fairly limited) research, used the word for murder, not kill. Two, if the sixth commandment is "Thou shalt not kill" and it means any form of killing whatsoever, then the Bible is full of contradictions, because there are many instances in the Old Testament where God sanctioned the killing of other people and animals.
  12. I'm not sure I could even hit a target 12 feet away. We knew you were coming. We did it just to mess with you.
  13. /thread hijack How's the repair going there? I don't get over there much any more because I play somewhere almost every Tuesday. EDIT: Never mind, just now saw Evan's reply above.
  14. Probably the easiest way is to simply show up at a match. Check and see what types of matches are available near you and go to one, even if it's just to watch the first time. Strictly speaking, you didn't specify. What TYPE of competitive shooting? Handgun, practical, bulls-eye, rifle, etc.
  15. oooh, that's purdy. Now, if you could just learn to shoot fast like me, you'd be all set.
  16. There's a place around here that, if a woman comes in and says she is looking for a gun, they go straight to the revolvers, pick up a Lady Smith, and hand it to her, and say, "Here." That's pretty much it. I was in a gun shop a while back and the customer asked what was the purpose of hollow point bullets. The answer was, "The hollow point causes the bullet to expand in the air so it's bigger when it hits the target." Something that really hits me is gun shop people (and customers too) that stand around pointing guns at each other. I have been shot at. I despise having a gun pointed at me and I will not allow it to happen if I can prevent it. If you point a gun at me and I react to it, you have no right to be offended. It's YOUR fault. Not mine. I was in a shop once and the clerk took a gun from the counter, pointed it directly at the customer's chest, pulled the trigger, then locked the slide open. After the customer looked it it, the clerk took it back, pointed it directly at the customer's chest, pulled the trigger, then locked the slide open.
  17. And, in every class I've taken, no matter who the instructor was, there were things that I felt were relavent to everyday carry and things that were not. I suspect that is true with almost any class.
  18. I believe the comments others made were in reference to the (possible) implication of "I don't care what happens to YOU (non-LEOs) because *I* don't have to worry about it." I don't know if that is what the poster meant, but I believe that's the some perceived it.
  19. USPSA/IPSC is a lot of fun. I don't get to shoot it as much as I'd like.
  20. I believe one of the reasons condition 2 is considered unsafe (in relation to 1911s) is that you have to load a round, then thumb the hammer down on a live round.
  21. For the most part, I agree with that. It's usually the guy with the biggest mouth that actually knows the least (that seems to apply to all areas, not just guns). The biggest issue I have is when someone touts some claim about all his credentials, how badass he is, how much experience he has, how much more about shooting he knows than I do, then when I see him shoot, I wonder how even passed the state test to get a permit. It's hard to take marksmanship training seriously when the guy giving said training is a horrible marksman.
  22. Unfortunately, you're probably out of luck then. Some of the KJV people are more stubborn than anybody.
  23. However, the VA link listed in the OP does not list TN as one of the states that VA recognizes.
