  1. My thoughts exactly. One of the thnings I've said about the internet for years: "I love internet forums. You ask how much is 2 plus 2 but you get a discussion about why multiplication is better then division." I went to see a movie the other night entitled "Soul Food Surfer." It's about a girl from South Memphis who gets her arm chewed off while trying to wrestle chitlins away from a doberman.
  2. Girl remains in critical condition after being accidentally shot by father | StarTribune.com "The bullet "could have gone anywhere," Cole said. "But it hit her."" Actually, I'm going to guess that if the gun was pointed at the girl, then no, the bullet couldn't have gone "anywhere." Bullets generally go where the muzzle is pointed. "We've grown up around firearms," he said. "We know the safety and we practice it." And, I'm going to go with, no, apparently you don't.
  3. I don't know about her, but I have heard from several friends that own restauruants that they received letters that "heavily implied" that the signs are mandatory.
  4. I actually saw a Memphis officer do almost exactly the same thing a couple of years ago. The guy in the "slow" car was driving well under the speed limit in the left lane.
  5. OT I had to kick a currently sitting judge out of a class one time for the same reason. /OT - back to your regularly scheduled programming
  6. Shameless Plug: Arms-Fair in Cordova also does NFA transfers and sales. We don't have a lot in stock yet (we're new to it), but we can order almost anything. $100 fee for an NFA transfer, $0 fee if you buy the item from us.
  7. This I'm not concerned with about people's opinion of my gun or the fact that I carry, I just don't want everyone to know that I am carrying from a tactical standpoint. Statistics and arguements aside, I actually had someone say to me once "You carry a gun, do something about this," regarding a situation that would not have warranted using a gun. Since then, I basically don't discuss handgun carry (in regards to whether I personally carry a gun) with anyone that isn't already a gun person. As to the OP: I carry concealed almost all the time. The only reason I carry openly is if I have gone somewhere without my concealment garment, and that is very rare. For instance: I left work for lunch planning on going through a drive through, but on the way, decided to go somewhere else. But, as I said, that's very rare that I would do that. Once a year maybe.
  8. Well, it seems to me that concealed just simply means unable to be seen. Easily dropped in a pocket is NOT the only way to accomplish that.
  9. I got my permit because I want to be able to walk around state parks with my AK47 pistol slung over my shoulder. Actually, the simple reason is, I live in Memphis. One day, some years ago, i realized how much crime there really is here.
  10. Several people I know that own businesses (specificaly restaurants that serve alcohol) have told me that the information that they received from the Restaurant Owners Assc seemed to imply it was required that they post signs. Maybe some places think they are required to do it.
  11. IIRC, Randy Quaid said, "If you're from California, you're not a Yankee. You're not really anything."
  12. Every person has different experience, but in my limited experience, people will not pay the 98% blue book price for a gun unless the gun has never been shot (other than the rounds fired through it at the factory). Everyone is different though.
  13. According to the Blue Book of gun values, a base model P229 without night sights should retail for around $625 in 95% condition. You add $74 if it has night sights. As far as the extra work and holster, some peole will pay extra for that, some won't. Of course, the blue book is just a guide.
  14. I also can't disagree, but agree with your addition. I've travelled quite extensively, although not in the last 3 or 4 years. I see stuff here in Memphis and west TN that I just don't see other places.
  15. Surely, nobody would do that, would they?
  16. I don't really want to speak for anyone else, but I think he was saying it was that way years ago when the Sheriff's Office was involved in issuing permits, there was a list of certain models that were allowed and you couldn't carry anything other than what was on that list, and then only if you had qualified with it. It seems like when the permits first went state wide, that carried over, but I don't remember exactly. I first got my permit in mid-1996, and it was NOT like that at that time. They did list what gun you qualified with, but it was not required that you carry only that gun.
  17. IDPA is a lot of fun if you go into it knowing ahead of time it's just a game. The same can be said for IPSC. I shoot both disciplines (although I haven't had the opportunity to shoot near as much this year as I used to). One of the things I hate to see at any match is some shmuck sitting around griping about the rules and how much he hates the game (whichever game it may be that we're competing in at the time). If you don't like the rules of the game you're playing, go play some other game. Jeez...there's no law that says you have to compete in every sport on the planet that's related to your hobby.
  18. Not nit-picking, just adding a bit for clarity: you must retain any mag, even if the mag itself is empty, if your gun isn't completely empty at the time you start the reload. IOW: the mag is empty but there is one in the chamber: you must retain the mag.
  19. I can't shed any light on the subject to speak of, but i can say that I have heard numerous police officers say that lasers are not legal. Along with supressors, short barreled rifles, and machine guns, even after you explain that there is no law in TN against lasers and there is no law again the other stuff as long as you properly submit the paperwork and are approved. I had one particular police officer say that he had never heard of the NFA paperwork and that if he found someone with a machine gun, he would arrest them, no matter what paperwork they had for it. edited: and once at a range where I was shooting, I overheard a conversation between a police officer and a person shooting. The officer was going to arrest the person for having a machine gun. The person explained that first, he didn't have a machine gun, he was just shooting fast (which was the truth) and second, he owned a couple of machine guns, and they are legal because he had all the proper paperwork for them. The police officer argued with him for a couple of minutes then just finally walked off.
  20. Or tell you that you don't know how to shoot. That seems to be a pretty common reason for Glock malfunctions.

I also had a P40. Had it for a couple of years, fired several thousand rounds out of it with no problems of any kind.
  22. Concur with BR situation. I used to work for a company that financed certain items. We would sometimes win lawsuits and the judge would check back a certain number of years for recently transferred assets. In addition to that, I "pre-inherited" some property, and was told by my attorney who is also a friend of mine, that if anything happened (the person was elderly) the property may still be liable under that person's name for unpaid bills for a certain number of years. Seems like he told me 7, but I'm not sure.
  23. Someone I know was caught in a Germantown restaurant sitting at the bar eating but not drinking alcohol. He was "made" because he walked out of another business, went to his car, put on his gun, then walked into a restaurant in same parking lot, and someone saw him do it. This was a couple of years ago before the current law and it was not legal to carry in the restaurant because they served alcohol. Someone called the G-town police. They (one of the officers) asked him if he had a permit, he said yes, they said ok and left. Apprently, they told the owner or whoever that he was legal even though techincally he wasn't.
  24. Personally, I'm short and fat, although I haven't always been fat. I started gaining weight in my mid 30s and have gotten big (although, I'm on a diet and I've lost weight), but I've been carrying a gun since I was in my 20s. However, I was an instructor for a long time, and I associated with other instructors of all body types and sizes, and we all carried guns all the time. There are so many options for concealed carry, you can find something that will work for basically anyone.
