  1. Well, I have a girlfriend, so clearly, looks don't matter. I can't say anything about the quality of the gun as far as function, but we have one and the front sight broke because a gun next to it in the safe slid over and bumped it.
  2. I don't "keep" a firearm in my vehicle, but I wear a gun everywhere I go so I always have a gun with me.
  3. You are correct in that the state does not specify caliber, however the class syllabus that is provided to the instructors states explicitly that the instructors have the authority to restrict caliber if they choose to. ETA: Or at least it did a couple of years ago. I have not renewed my instructor certification this year because I no longer have time to teach classes.
  4. That is correct. The individual training schools/instructors can add questions to the test and can have the student shoot more than the required 48 rounds if they choose to. Most of the instructors that I taught when I did classes just had everybody shoot 50 since that's what comes in a box. Most instructors that I taught with also added at least a couple of questions to the test.
  5. I only OC my Glock revolver at Steak and Shake.
  6. There are a couple of good sources, but probably the easiest one is www.handgunlaw.us This will tell you the laws in any of the states. Your TN permit is good in all of the states you listed, but off limits locations are a little different from state to state. As far as transport, you can have your gun on your person or loaded in your vehicle in those states since you have a valid TN permit. I might also suggest www.opencarry.org Regardless of whether or not you are an open carry proponent, that site will give you a good base of information also.
  7. Actually, that depends on the credit card merchant (or maybe it depends on how many dollars in transactions the merchant processes). We changed vendors not long ago because the one we were using charges 1 or 1.1 percent (can't remember exactly) plus a 20 cent transaction fee for a debit card transaction.
  8. Here's why some places do it: New firearms have a small percentage markup, compared to almost every other retail item for sale in any retail business. A new firearm may have an 11 or 12 percent markup (sometimes more, but sometimes less). The credit card company get 2-3 percent of that (and actually Amex in many cases gets 3.25 or 3.3 percent). That's a pretty big chunk of the profit, as opposed to other retail items, where markup can be 30 or 40 percent (or in some cases, much more than that). Some small businesses pass that savings on to the customer when they pay cash. I don't really see that as blatently ripping off the customer.
  9. Don't take my word for it, but I'm reasonably sure that is not correct. I think expungement simply means it no longer shows up on your public record.
  10. I suppose it depends on whether or not he hit her in the X ring.
  11. took a quick look and didn't see this posted http://news.yahoo.com/va-couple-accidentally-shot-gun-safety-class-111518724.html ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A Roanoke, Va., man and his wife were recovering after he accidentally shot himself and her during a firearms safety class. The Bedford County Sheriff's Office tells media outlets that Michael L. Deel shot himself in the hand with a .45-caliber handgun. The bullet also struck his wife, Michelle, in the leg as she was sitting beside him. The incident occurred Saturday during a firearms safety class at a residence. The instructor, Thomas Starke, told police he'd left the room and then heard a shot. The Deels were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Michael Deel says the shooting was a "stupid accident."
  12. Also, aren't post offices considered federal property?
  13. I have a high cap Glock revolver. Shhhh...don't tell anyone. I also have a Glock 7 that I use when I need to carry in the airport. Please keep that a secret also.
  14. I carry the same gun all year round, no matter what the weather. A either a SIg 229 or a 226 (I just recently switched to the 226 from the 229, but I still have several of both models).
  15. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I'm relatively sure you cannot check a gun at 201. I have checked a gun before at 150 Washington, but now they no longer have metal detectors at that building.
  16. Well, LH, I know you well enough to think you shouldn't have a gun.
  17. I don't know if I can, but I can come close, probably. I don't have a Ruger but I used to have a Kel-Tec. I never measured the groups, but I could shoot fairly small groups with it at 21 feet. However, your friend's claim sounds a little fishy. I have heard all sorts of claims from people, but then when you ask them to show you, they can't do it, but always have some excuse. I would ask him to demonstrate it.
  18. Unfortunately, a friend of mine was killed in a home invasion just a couple of months ago. He was not a gun person and to the best of my knowledge didn't own a gun. Someone broke into his home during the night and decided he didn't need to live and killed him before they left.
  19. I can't speak too much about the quality, but all of the Paras that I have sold at the shop where I work have had problems with the finish coming off and it starts right away. Don't know about the stainless ones. They may be ok. We have one customer that sent his back to Para because within a couple of weeks, the finish was completely gone. Para refinished it, sent it back to him, and within a couple of weeks, it was completely gone again and now Para won't do anything.
  20. Just for reference, it was actually illegal until about 2006 or 2007 (I can't remember exactly) to carry in any place that served OR sold alcohol, so it was illegal to carry in a TN liquor store, or a Kroger for that matter.
  21. A friend of mine was forced (may be a bad choice of words) to discard a tool he used for his job once on a traffic stop. It was a very small pair of pliers he used for computer printer repair. It was in a toolkit with other tools. Like your example, it should have been OBVIOUS it wasn't drug paraphernalia, but the officer made him discard it because he thought he might use it to smoke a joint.
  22. Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I guess it (maybe) could be argued that this isn't an official judicial proceding, but then it could be argued that it is also, so I'm going to err on the side of not going to jail.
  23. Going for jury duty. I get that it's illegal to carry in a courtroom, but this is just the date selections. I'm also kind of assuming they will consider this a courtroom while we are there.
  24. Has anyone been to the Cook Convention Center recently? Are there metal detectors?
  25. This is really cool. Do you think it would be a good idea if I just printed this picture out and wore it taped to my chest?
