Best Hearing Protection Advice please
Superman replied to Newman's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I bought a pair of Caldwell electronic muffs and they dont work so well. Sometimes they will catch the gun shot and sometimes not. Heard lots of good things about Peltors, so I took a chance on the sport tacs, they work awesome. -
Fired off a bunch of my cast boolits today. Like Caster said, what are you waiting for? I am only casting for 9mm right now, plan on casting for 38/357, 45 Colt, 7.62x39. Only have about 100 cases for 357 and 100 for 45 Colt right now. Either people dont shoot them much around here or someone is beating me to it. I am enjoying the heck out of it so far, just not sure how far down the rabbit hole I want to go. I have caught myself watching youtube for swaging videos for 223 using 22lr cases and 45 using 40S&W cases. Also been thinking about 9x25 Dillon, have been intrigued with that round ever since I first found out about it. I have a little less than 100 10mm cases saved so far, its another hard to find case around here. But I did come up with 7-800 223 cases today.

Piers Morgan is an obtuse idiot

I turned to him for a minute tonight to see what the response to the NRA would be. He said with a simple modification the gun could shoot 4-6 rounds per second and then showed a video of an AR15 equipped with a slidefire stock. -
Not to mention they would just screw it up

I stocked up on mags because they wear out and break. And if they get banned I wont be able to replace them or wont want to pay the high price they will fetch if they are banned again. But I think I have plenty so I wont be paying the higher prices that they are bringing now.

Not sure how long it took, I was doing other stuff at the same time. I smelted more than that 25 pounds, ended up with about 75 pounds of ingots. Still have two 5 gallon buckets of weights and that 60 pounds of stick-ons to smelt. It looks like the Lee molds are out for 7.62x39, they are listed as .312, all my barrels are .314 and 1 slugged out to .312(US made Green Mountain Barrel). Looks like I need to get a .316 mold for them. I did pull some bullets from factory loaded ammo. Tula and Golden Tiger measure .310, Corbon and Barnes as well as most 7.62x39 bullets are listed as .310 diameter as well. I have read that some 7.62x39 ammo actually has .308 bullets.

If anyone is interested, the 25 pounds of clip-on weights netted 21.5 pounds of ingots. So roughly 15% loss in weight after smelting. Haven't smelted any of the stick-on weights yet, I have about 60 pounds total so far.

Well crap! I got sidetracked smelting lead and the next thing I knew it was about 3 o'clock. -
I went, took a minute to find a place to park. Also, a man collapsed or something near the back. Not sure what happened.

Thats what I have on my Explorer 35x12.50, good tire. They get clogged up in the mud a little to easy, but get them spinning pretty good and they clean out alright. ETA-Nothing beats a swamper in the mud.

Been collecting the wheel weights from work since August, so right at 4 month. Took the bucket home today, sorted through it and ended up with 25 pounds of clip-on lead wheel weights and 6 pounds of stick-on weights. We dont do much tire work.

Jumping Through Hoops in Tenneessee. This has to change
Superman replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Aren't there 4 states that have constitutional carry now. They seem to be doing just fine. Why would it be any different anywhere else? Also Alabama doesnt require any training for conceal carry permit and the cost to get one is very low, or so thats what I've been told by some that live there. -
Right. I am confident that I dont have any zinc in the ingots I have poured so far. But I also no I am not above making mistakes. My main question is-Is there a way to tell you have zinc in the mix before you ruin a mold?
-
I am pretty sure that the ingots I have cast dont have any zinc in them, but just curious if it was to happen can you tell before you ruin an aluminum mold? Or will it not immediately ruin your mold? Any signs to watch out for?

I plan on going to get some reloading supplies from David.

Any good tools or books that would help somebody research their genealogy? My Mom has really got into this and I would like to get her something related to it for Christmas.

A Last Minute Appeal To Libertarians And Non-Voters
Superman replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Interesting... Gary Johnson's votes would have put mitt ahead of Obama in FL and OH according to politico
Not with what they are showing this morning. But it wouldnt matter anyway, that would put Romney at 259 and Obama 284 -
Inside Waist Band Carry uncomfortable.
Superman replied to Jesse's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
IWB Glock 19 in a supertuck at about 3-3:30 on my right side. Standing, sitting, bent over the fender of a car, lying on a creeper, etc. I am a mechanic, the only time it bothers me is on some cars with the big aggressive hip bolsters on the seats. The butt of the gun will catch on the hip bolster but a quick adjustment to get the butt past the bolster and all is well. It used to bother me all the time to have a gun on, but o kept carrying anyway. -
Do you ever see other people carrying?
Superman replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Saw a guy OC at greatclips today. One guy eyeballed the gun at the cash register and the lady that cut his hair never noticed it. It was pointed out to her by her next customer. She said she didnt care if people carried, but thinks people that OC just want people to think they are a badass.lol Not her exact words. ETA-She did say that the owner told them if they had a permit that he didnt mind if they carried.
