Keep it clean and it eats lead, too.

Give this guy a call for an estimate: A&H Tree Service 901-541-5776 I used him back in the fall and was highly impressed.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I have plain black rears on every gun that I may carry. I find that rear dots, tritium or otherwise, are just a distraction.
-
And I would much rather defend against a gun at arm's length than I would a knife.

Thanks for the tip Bear, I'll have to pick up some.

I'm probably one of the others PackinMama mentioned. After running about 600 flawless rounds of FMJ through mine, I decided it was time to try some HPs. Mine does the same thing that hers does--HPs plug against the feed ramp. I initially tried Remington Golden Sabers and Federal 9BP. The gun now has ~900 rounds through it. Springfield sent me a label and it's on the way back. Otherwise, I love the gun. I really want to eventually make this my main carry gun. I'm being patient with it--I knew that a 3" 1911 could be a drama queen. I was actually surprised that it fed the first 600 with no problems.

She's nasty/nappy. She always looks like she needs a bath.

Fill a magazine halfway with WWB 115 and halfway with just about any 147 commercial FMJ. I bet there's a difference.
-
+1 Although I have used it when a second piece of id is needed.

Almost any 9mm with a 147 grain bullet will be more pleasant, especially for a noob. Winchester White Box 115, while a pretty good deal, is fairly hot. Remington UMC 115 is softer.

...and Ted has acknowledged less than proud moments in his past. My stance is, who cares what he did 40 years ago when he was young and retarded? I think he's much more beneficial as a pro-gun rock star than he would be as a 20 year old kid who got blown to smithereens in a war we weren't allowed to properly fight. I'm not defending draft-dodgers, but I think he's redeemed himself, if the crapping-in-his-pants-story is even true.

Who's to say that this guy wasn't carrying himself?

1. Unless you're in a hurry, I'd wait for a Trojan. Get the real thing. You'll wait for a while, though. My friend bought the last one in America from Hero Gear last week. STI says current orders will hopefully be filled in August. 2. Stock Trojan sights include a .115 rear and a .110 front. That combination sucks for me. I run the same thing you do on my G34--.150 rear/.115 front. I put a .090 front on the Trojan, and still wish there was a little more daylight. It's definitely better than stock, though. 3. I'll end up with an AFTEC as well. 4. Out of the box, my Trojan has run 100% when it fired. I was initially getting super-light primer strikes, but a 21 pound mainspring (as opposed to the stock 15 pound mainspring) seems to have cured it. 5. You'll like the one-hole group at 15 yards. I certainly do. I plan to eventually start carrying a 9mm 1911 .45 purists will puke.

Having it tuned by sending it to a smith? Yes, that can get expensive. Enlisting the help of a couple local 1911 whisperers, however, can get the shooter good results for a small amount of money if the problems aren't huge. I recently picked up an STI Trojan. This is my fourth 1911. What I am finding is that some 1911s don't necessarily have to be constantly "tuned"; just the right combination of parts, springs, etc. has to be found. Once the right recipe is discovered, the gun is fairly trouble-free.

A full size 9mm 1911 is mainly used for competition. A 9mm 1911 that will run is usually preferable to a 9mm Hi Power in a competition setting for various reasons--trigger (especially reset), wider availability of aftermarket parts--sights, holsters, etc, and familiarity. A lot of competition shooters who buy 9mm 1911s already have 1911s in other calibers--there's little or no learning curve when you're not changing platforms. Capacity in competition is often not an issue--in IDPA, all 9mm guns are limited to 10 rounds in the magazine, and in USPSA, most 9mm 1911s will compete in the single stack division. Those who haven't had the chance to play with a tuned 9mm 1911 don't know what they are missing.

I guess I'll be a dead murf by next weekend. I got a 42. No adultery, no prostitutes, no gold chains, and I can run 300M. WTF?

Most any Wal-Mart around here will carry ammo; they may be out of certain flavors, however. I was at the Wally on Gtown Pkwy earlier today, and they had plenty of .40 and 9mm, as well as any kind of rifle and shotgun ammo you want. I don't believe they had any 9mm hollow points. If you think Wal-Mart having ammo is odd, you should have been here a few years ago--they all used to carry handguns, and I once saw an M1A at the Germantown store! BTW, the Raleigh Wal-Mart on Austin Peay is probably your closest store if you don't want to cross the river.

My personal favorite, although I shoot a pump I was once dared to shoot five 12 ga. 3" slugs through a pistol-grip pump one-handed. I did it, but my left hand trembled for three days! I've never been accused of being too bright.

I don't think there is an amendment that bars people from drunk driving, either. Of course they can still get guns, but I don't think it's a good idea to put the right to own and use a gun on a silver platter for convicted criminals. Why have laws at all if you feel that way? Maybe your family will be their next victim. Sorry, I just don't have sympathy for thugs.

[quote name=crotalus01;515798 Deerslayer - ALL of our Founding Fathers were criminals in the eyes of the British gov't. I do not believe that they intended for even "former" criminals should be denied their 2A rights. Let me clarify my position - if the justice system was truely Just' date=' i.e. criminals served the appropriate amount of time for their crime(s) and were deemed fit to re-enter society, then I believe they should have ALL their rights restored regardless of the nature of their crime. Note that in a truely JUST system murders, rapists and child molesters would be doing a rope dance...[/quote] Felons lose their rights, not only as punishment, but also as a means to protect society from an obviously flawed person when he gets to leave timeout. I have no problem with this. What would a "truly just" system do with one who was convicted of second degree attempted murder? What about robbery? Would these crimes qualify one for the "rope dance?" Would the thug who shot my father have all his rights restored after serving his sentence in this utopia you describe?
