I can only speak for myself. But I probably would try them. I've used some metal can 3031 and cardboard container 2400 and W 231 over the past couple of years with no problems. (The powders and primers were from the early 1990's). Of course the powders and primers were mine, and I knew the storage conditions. I would want to see and handle the containers personally, but it sounds like you did and have not found them wanting. But it's always a risk with these things. Powders and primers keep for a mighty long time if stored properly.

Love to see some pics of your bed design @ReeferMac. Sounds like you have a system going on. We have one 4x8 raised bed planted with Sugar Snaps (a derivation of snow peas) and they are doing well. Our other beds are primed and ready, but as @peejman and @Raoul mentioned, still a bit cool to do any serious planting. But soon!

I moved from Cali to Knoxville
Jamie Jackson replied to smallfish's topic in New Member Introductions
Welcome aboard @smallfish and welcome to TN. I am local to you, West Knoxville. I mainly shoot handgun at Point Blank these days, but I've been a member at ORSA since I relocated here in '06. Windrock Shooting Range in Oliver Springs is a good place to shoot as well. Great folks there in my experience. As @hipower mentioned, there's several of us around here. Current commitments and situations limit my time and availability at the moment unfortunately. But things change, all in time. -
Underwater submerged storage

This reminded me of an article I read several years ago in Backwoods Home magazine. Great magazine imho. The article was written by Charles Wood. He buried a Ruger Ranch Rifle and several thousand rounds of .223 ammo (and related gear) and retrieved them after 15 years. Mr.Wood goes into pretty fair detail of the process and the article has some interesting observations as well. https://www.backwoodshome.com/bury-a-gun-and-ammo-for-15-years/ -
I was just yanking yer chain my friend. The media looks great! Not nearly as dirty as without the dryer sheets. Thank you for the suggestion. I was simply compelled, uncontrollably I might add, to be a smart a**.

OK, I tried this. Now my brass has no "static cling" and smells like Gain detergent "Moonlight Fresh". Have I been had?
-
Thank you @RED333! That's pretty darn clever my friend.

I'd appreciate seeing a pic of the setup you're describing @RED333. Sounds like something I could work with. Thanks @jpx2rk. I'll eventually have to try wet tumbling. btw, the Zilla media worked great and I couldn't appreciate any dust issues.
-
I've got the Zilla running in my tumbler as I type this. I don't deprime my brass first btw. I 'll give it a few hours and see how it works. My tumbler is in my basement, so the potential for dust really isn't a concern.

I probably do need to at the very least consider the change. Money is kinda tight right now. But there's always the next Black Friday sale My old Dillon tumbler just keeps working. Like my old Lee press, I keep thinking I'll replace it when it wears out... 30 years later they just keep working LOL

Thank you @xsubsailor! The 10 qt Zilla "Desert Blend" is only $17.99 and the Petco is just down the road from me. Think I'll give it a try. Thank you @jpx2rk... just saw your reply as I was posting this.

Well it's time to change the media in FL 2000 tumbler. Lord that stuff gets dirty... I've seen Lizard bedding ( Zilla crushed walnut) mentioned on several forums and iirc I've seen it mentioned here at TGO. The local Petco carries it at a much lower price than places like Midway . I know walnut doesn't polish as well as corncob media. I'm not looking for "pretty", just clean brass. Anyone have any first hand experience using this? TIA

9 MM Luger... 147 grain coated bullet recipes...
Jamie Jackson replied to leroy's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I'm currently shooting 147 gr Hoosier Hi-Tek coated bullets using 3.5 grs American Select and these run around 900 fps. (The bullets are $78.00/1000 as I type this.) My load data log says I've chronoed 147 gr lead (Falcon bullets) at 880 fps using 3.9 grs Unique. AmSel is my favorite powder for 147 gr 9mm. Very accurate rounds with a nice recoil impulse. What coated bullets are you using btw? -
Welcome aboard.

Welcome to TN and TGO. Another West Knoxville member here.

Agree that we do in fact live in "interesting times". Funny that this curse is attributed to the Chinese... I too plan reloading therapy for this afternoon. There's lonely brass and components calling to me as I type this.

Did something I said I wouldn't do for a While

I applaud you Larry! Good on you for listening to your physicians and that voice in your heart my friend. I had the Pfizer series Dec/Jan (Healthcare worker) and my bride of 33+ years gets her 1st Pfizer this morning. The missus has multiple health issues, so I am very happy she's scheduled. Our "daughter" had the Moderna series with no negative side effects. (Healthcare worker too). -
Whew, while nice Dillon is certainly more in line with my working class budget. iirc I invested around $300.00 in my Dillon 550 back around '89 or so. It's still going strong and Dillion did an inspection, cleaning, and parts replacement several years ago. Just cost me the shipping. And they've replaced parts along the way as needed. I certainly consider my Dillon a value purchase and investment. Nice setup @DJTC45!

Yeah, Newtown really reinforced what I already knew, but had grown complacent about. I dry fire more than I shoot as well, but I still try and get to the range for focused drills and to practice specific skills 2-3 times a month. I limit my rounds and due to home/personal circumstances severely limit my range time. But 20-30 minutes of focused practice ( i.e. Rastoff , a 5x5 drill, or a reduced round count Dot Torture) and verification of some of my dry fire practice works for me. I've also been shooting more revolver than auto this past 12-18 months and I've found the DA work with the wheelie has helped a lot with my SA/Safe Action trigger control. Besides, I like wheelies. We all know/knew that every election year brings on a rush of purchasing guns & ammo. But the convergence of events of the past couple of years is pretty unprecedented, at least in my experience. From what I read, Natchez and many other online retailers, list ammo several times per day when they get shipments in. There are a lot of folks competing for that ammo, sometimes guns, and things move remarkably fast. Who knows what the "New Norm" is gonna be... time will tell.

This is terrible news. Praying also for peace and comfort. May God Bless and keep you.

Optics ready pistolas... Somethin to play with or the " Real Deal "..?
Jamie Jackson replied to leroy's topic in Handguns
@leroy I have an ATEI worked Glock 17... shot it today at Point Blank Knoxville as a matter of fact. It's taken, and still takes, a lot of dry fire and consistency of motion to really gain benefit from it, imho. But it sure helps with these aging eyes. You are welcome to try it if you'd like and see what you think. My time is kinda tight right now, but PM me and we'll see what's what. -
Possible transplant from California

Welcome to TGO @nedsled! I've worked travel assignments in the Bay Area many years ago and was stationed at Oak Knoll (Oakland) even further back. I think you'll like Tennessee -

I just got back from shooting this with my Glock (cold) and my Shield 2nd...it's humbling because there is no reason for me to miss my hits other than me LOL. Thank you for the challenge Randy. Great exercise!
