  1. What about a Taurus pt145? I don't own one, but shot one the other day and was very impressed. I am not a fan of the trigger pull, but it is very concealable and reliable. Plus it is a .45. If you are going to look at a Kahr, don't get a CW. I had a .40 and found it to be the most unreliable gun I have ever owned with FTFs and FTEs after 300 rounds.
  2. You should look at some VZ Alien grips. I put some on my RIA and love them. I am going to put a set on my Kimber too.
  3. Why don't you just order it? Shipping is cheap and quick.
  4. If I were going with a 3", I would get the Defender as well. Solid all round gun. The CDP is a Kimber custom shop gun. That just means they smooth out the edges of the gun for less drag on clothing. The barrel and trigger are match grade too.

    SIG P220 Elite

Nice looking gun. I became a new Sig convert yesterday.
  6. I had an HTC that was made for Cingular. I think it was the 8525, now called the tilt. I really liked it. I believe it was windows based. The slide-out keyboard was pretty nice too. Next to my iPhone it was my favorite. Really easy to use.
  7. Mike in Tazewell is at Mike's gun shop. 423-626-4323. It is a great shop to deal with. he should not be backed up more than a week or two.
  8. I started a couple weeks ago. I've stripped the insides of the RIA and added Wilson Combat parts, springs, and VZ Alien grips. I am going to work on night sights, beavertail, thumb safety, and match grade barrel. The gun is already a really nice shooter. Everything functions pretty well. It's still a work in progress.

    Rock Island Armory

I just bought one a few weeks ago for a build. I have had no problems out of the gun. It is a pretty good point to start if you are wanting to build one. It is about as accurate as any commander I have shot.

    .223 varmint uppers

What about the Bushmaster varminter 24"? They are pricey, but tough to beat if it matches your specs.
  11. I just picked up 200 .45's today at the Tazewell Walmart. They had 2 more 100 count boxes left at 12:00.
  12. I just picked one of these up for a build too, but not the tactical. I have about 100 through it and only 1 ftf, which was my fault. I have shot wwb, buffalo bore +P, and Hornady TAP +P. I'm a pretty big fan.

    The Judge

The winchester .410 that I shot put all 3 on an 8" target at 7-10 yards. Here's the link to the ones I used: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712-cat20726-cat20841&id=0060849216730a&navCount=6&podId=0060849&parentId=cat20841&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=2UG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true

    The Judge

I've still not shot any .45's out of mine yet, just the .410. I can't remember which brand, but someone makes a .410 that is a 00buck made just for the Judge.
  15. I started on my RIA today. I installed some new Wilson Combat parts: all new springs, trigger, sear, sear spring, and disconnect. I have a hammer too, but I am going to wait to install a beaver tail safety. I also added some VZ Alien grips. Soon to come are new barrel, guide rod, extended mag release, thumb safety, and night sights. It's starting to come together.
  16. I had one and hated it. I had to send it back to Kahr the first day I shot it. If I were getting a CW model I would stick with the 9mm. That was the caliber they had in mind when they made the gun, and I've heard they have fewer problems. I really liked the trigger pull, and it was accurate.

    Bat removal

No, you are right. There is no extermination. It is a company that relocates the bats; I don't know their name. They would have to put up bat condos for that many.

    Bat removal

Has anyone had any experience with bat removal? My parents' house is being occupied by at least 75+ bats. We counted 75 flying out of the eves of the house tonight. They aren't in the attic, which is a good thing. They have an exterminator coming tomorrow. I'm sure his quote will be in the thousands. He was talking about a catch and release program.
  19. I got it in Tazewell today. It was used but was in great shape. I paid $350 for it. I've found a few triggers that I like. Is that something that requires fitting or can I just put it in? I was looking at a Wilson combat. As far as sights I am going to go with a night sight, but don't know what brand. Is there a good shop in Knoxville that does good trigger/barrel work? What about predator customs? That's a nice looking gun COOP.
  20. What type of sights did you put on?
  21. I just picked up a GI model Rock Island Armory commander size 1911. I am wanting to customize it with some match grade parts. Where is a good place to start? I'll probably get new grips right off the bat, but I didn't know if I should start with the trigger, night sights, or the guide rod/spring. Also it won't feed hornady TAP hollow points. They dive into the feed ramp. I didn't have any trouble with the WWB that I put through it earlier. I am using Kimber mags.
  22. I picked up a RIA 4" today. I was surprised how well it shoots. It was much smoother than the Springfield GI. And the trigger felt better, but that doesn't really matter since I am changing the trigger anyway. The only problem I have is that it won't feed Hornady TAP hollow points, neither the 200 grain or the 230 gr +P. Any ideas?
  23. I'd rather not spend $800-900+ on the platform. That's why I like the idea of a RIA or Springfield.
  24. I am wanting to get a basic 1911 and customize it. I am looking for a commander size. If I knew a little more about it I would get a basic frame and slide and start from scratch. I would like to eventually make it a carry gun with night sights, do some trigger work, and add a few other bells and whistles. Which would be a better fit? What are the pros/cons of either the SA GI or the RIA? Is there something else I should look at? Basically I don't really know what all my options are. I like the GI champion lightweight.
  25. Don't forget about Doubletap ammo. I have their 9mm, .40 and .45. They are reloads, but I've not had any trouble with them. Their ballistics beat out everything else that I've compared them to, even most Buffalo Bore. Buffalo Bore changed their prices and raised their shipping, so I don't mess with them anymore.
