  1. I work in Chattanooga ... does that count? Welcome.

    Good cops?!

Been my experience that cops target attitude more than anything else. My story, speeding about 12 over the limit. Cop lights up, I stop and pull to the side as fast as I can. Asks for license and registration. Smells alcohol and asks me how much I drank. Told him it was my birthday and I had one scotch before dinner. He hands back my license and told me it was his birthday also! Wished him happy b-day and took off. BTW ... I really only had one drink!
  3. A most excellent point! As for the ability to disagree with those that just see black and white, the longer I am here, the more shades of gray I see. There is a time and place for everything. The law says I can OC, yet the law has a long list of places where I can't carry. I remember once watching this clown ride up on a motorcycle dressed in cammies, getting off and strutting all over the place. I quietly went up to him and told him that one side of the road is national park territory and the other side was TVA property. Both ban possession on their property. He loudly proclaimed he had the right to OC and no one was going to stop him. Then he steps on a stone wall and takes his finger like a pistol and aims at those orange balls that are on power lines. I shook my head and walked away. <shrug> Both are federal raps. I walk into a bank and see an armed guard, don't even give it a second glance. Walk into a gunshop and see employees OC and CC, don't give it a second glance. Walk into a pawnshop ... the kind where there are bars in the windows and you don't go there at night. Don't give it a second glance. What I am saying if I strap on and OC to a wedding, public function, a non-posted park or any other place where one stands out like a sore thumb ... look in the mirror and ask yourself just why are you doing it? Cause the law says you can? CC in any of those places and no one gives you a second glance. There is a time and a place for everything. Common sense is anything but common. Some people just have this NEED to be right. Or noticed!
  4. Great post! I have watched OC people walking around in public armed and for the most part, it seems they revel in making people around them uncomfortable. Seeing children point out the firearm and the parents getting flustered and moving them away. Why? Just because the law says you can really does not validate this. Ego is a much more realistic reason. It is like watching some maladjusted goth teenager that has metal and tattoos all over their body and getting upset that people stare at them. There are places where OC is acceptable. Out in the field, on your land working, hunting, on the range, part of your job duties as an armed guard ... even riding in a vehicle are some examples that have legitimacy. The need to go out in public and feed the perception that one is armed and dangerous ... don't mess with me is a state of mind that needs to be questioned. Just because the law says I can does not cut it ... one is no better off than that idiot with the orange tipped AK47 pistol in a public park.
  5. My two cents ... It draws attention to you, most of it unwanted. It will not deter an idiot from confronting you. I will just let the other pennies rattle in my pocket.
  6. Thanks for handling it diplomatically instead of going all out insisting on your "rights". Winning people one at a time is much more effective than alienating and possibly jeopordizing posting the store permanently because one is acting like a dick. Thumbs up!
  7. I bought a pistol from Ray Carter, when he started doing the whiny dealing, I told him point blank what the pistol went for new at Sportsmen Warehouse and I much rather buy from him. He settled right down and I got a fair price on a very lightly used pistol. Sometimes, you have to take a couple of steps back when dealing with personalities. Ray is one of those guys. He isn't getting rich with his business, he is trying to survive in a tough economy. He feels the pressures like you and I do when it comes times to pay the bills. There were days I walked in there and he was in a bad mood, I walked out. There are other days where I walked in and he was very helpful. Nothing personal, I am not wearing his shoes, I can barely wear mine. As for VOW, I am treated like a good customer there and I do buy a lot from him. There is no sense in getting upset with a high price. You just walk to another cheaper deal. It is their loss. We vote with our dollars. Warren has very fair prices for transfers. Actually one of the pistols I bought from another state was NIB for cheaper than what I paid for ... used! As for Hal, it is time for him to go. It ain't cause I did not give him several chances.
  8. Thank you ... and I am not going to say for your service because that is becoming so damn trite. Thank YOU for telling the TRUTH of what is really going on there today. Thank YOU for exposing the media for what they have become. Thank YOU for being a human being that cares about the misery in that area. Thank YOU for having the courage to do something about it. Thank YOU for making a difference in and caring about people's lives. If I have a prayer today, it is that power of truth from testimonies like yours be published on the internet empowering the common people to see and feel that power. Eventually these "media giants" will fall and crumble because the people know their motives and words ring false and hold no truth. It has become one giant propaganda machine that spins words into fables that have no inherent value. Thanks again for opening my eyes and my mind.
  9. Reporters from the Tennesseean? Do you really want an honest answer to that question?
  10. I am saving up to get a Milt Sparks contoured belt ... yup, it is a bit more expensive, in the meantime I will wait and use what I got. I learned the hard way a long time ago that a good quality tool is much more inexpensive in the long run and provides years of reliable service. The time and money you lose when it does not perform or break when you need it the most kills any savings you incur. Another technique that I use quite effectively is after I done my research and start saving for the purchase is that I start shopping used market channels. If I come across it while saving, I usually save up to 60% of the purchase price. With the internet resources being what they are today, there are some great deals to be uncovered. You can't find them if you are not looking for them. I am lucky to get two years service out of a standard leather belt used with a holster. The tanning process on most dress and work belts today is designed to make the leather soft and pliable, plus most belts today are made in China and are constructed out of two or more layers glued together. (bonded leather) Sometimes the label says it, more often than not it doesn't. I had a couple of belts that were thrown away with less than a year's wear on them because the leather turned brittle and cracked. And those were never used with a holster, just work and formal dress styles. They looked pretty ... but they sure as heck did not last.
  11. OMG ... send that to The Tennessean! The commercial of the DECADE!
  12. Use a condom! Just could not resist!
  13. Ain't karma a biotch ... What goes around, comes around! Congratulations! A good friend cannot be bought and is more valuable than any possession out there. Looks like you have both!
  14. Musket balls work great in slingshots! Ya can punch holes through a sheet of plywood with them.
  15. Went last week again, doors chained and padlocked and green sticker is on door asking for Coke machine. Anyone really know what is going on?
  16. Wear it with pride as it is the "patina" of a well used tool? Is it a tool or a fashion accessory?
  17. I believe you have to qualify that statement with this sentence .... If your shoot is ruled a "bad" shoot by the DA and judge, ... yada yada yada. If your shoot is ruled a "good" shoot by the DA or judge, the castle doctrine applies.
  18. Actually brought a tear of joy to my eyes! That has got to be the classiest case of revenge I ever saw. United breaks Taylor Guitars! EDIT: That sig right above my post ... Beware the fury of a patient man. SO TRUE!
  19. I hope by house vapor barrier, you mean that Tyvek or similar material. That stuff breathes ... it is supposed to. The only vapor barrier on a house has to be as close to the living area as possible. Usually right under the sheetrock. If you put the plastic on the outside of the house, your walls become mold and mildew factories. Makes for a toxic home that has to be torn down.
  20. Red X ;D
  21. Exactly the kind of humor my four brothers and I used to parry with each other! We knew we had a good one when my mother was shocked speechless. I bet this one works!
  22. Before putting on the "special cape" and going out to save the world ... Keep these points in mind. 1. Odds are good that you will be arrested after an ambiguous shoot. 2. You need to protect yourself by shutting up and immediately asking for a lawyer. 3. There is no homeowners insurance that will protect you from being sued if you are wrong. 4. It will cost you a minimum of $50K to cover your legal fees. 5. You better know in advance who the "good" lawyers are AND know their phone number. 6. While TN does have a castle doctrine law with the stand your ground clause, you may want to ask yourself if the situation can be defused. 7. Pointing a gun at someone OR using it against someone carries the same penalty if it is a bad decision. So does opening your jacket and showing your weapon as an implied threat. 8. Most "good" shoots just happen, there is no time to think ... just react. 9. You are responsible for the bullet that misses or goes through the person and strikes an innocent bystander. 10. You actually have less rights as a CHP carrier than a person who does not have one. This one creates a lot of debate.
  23. You will learn that and more when you take your HCP class. Take it from a reputable instructor and all your questions will be answered.

    Firearm Sales

Interesting ... I stand corrected. FFL to FFL is OK but private to FFL is not OK. Point taken.

    Firearm Sales

Not true. Handgun may be shipped USPS by a private individual from another state to a FFL holder in the state where a resident of that state will purchase from that FFL holder after passing TBI background check. Firearm must be shipped overnight and via certified mail. Firearm must be unloaded and magazines be unloaded. Ammunition must be shipped in a separate package. The person mailing the firearm needs a copy of the FFL license that it is being shipped to. He then signs an affidavit and attaches that license that the reciever is a licensed firearms dealer. Google USPS: Shipping firearms or speak to a licensed dealer.
