  1. Well if 39-17-1311 covers the Ag Center, then either the entire site allows carry or doesn't.  1311 is an all or nothing opt out.
  2. Just for fun, I went ahead and pulled some information about the Fair grounds...   It's technically called the James E Ward Agricultural Center and Historic Village...  It has ball fields open to the public year round when the fair isn't going on...  they also have a campground onsite as well...  I've got a call in for the budget to get emailed to me, my guess is it's the same department that handles other 'parks' in the county... but we'll see.   39-17-1311 states:     Now, I don't see how on earth the Ag Center which is opened to the public all year long, with historical buildings, campgrounds and ball fields...  isn't covered under that definition?   I could be mistaken, my guess is there is virtually no case law covering 39-17-1311...  but it sure looks covered by the law.
  3. They'd be even cheaper... think about how much of that $1000 is compliance cost with various government regulations.   Every time that gun changes hands, figure there is at least a $25+ cost in just documentation required for the government.   In theory Colt should be able to sell to the public cheaper than it can sell to the Feds (or at least the same price), because there would be less paperwork than a government purchase order.
  4. Just remember if it wasn't for the cost of government regulations...  people would be able to buy M16's for $500 today.
  5. The firearms charges were against people under 21, they couldn't have had a carry permit.  I'm curious of the specific circumstance of Shawn Davon Jones arrest, if he was one of the guys sitting in the car with a firearm, then he didn't violate state law...  Would be interesting to see that arrest report, because the officers might have made a mistake there.   None of this took place inside the fair grounds...  So none of this would have been covered by 39-17-1311...   But, since we're talking about the fair grounds, they are clearly governed by 39-17-1311b1H so they can not be posted under 39-17-1359, and unless the Wilson County board votes to opt the fairgrounds out of the parks carry law.  Doesn't matter what the fair ground board says, the signs they post, the state removed their ability to regulate the wearing of firearms by HCP holders and placed it 100% in the hands of the county board.   I don't even think they can legally ask you to leave, although I wouldn't suggest arguing with them about it...  I'd leave and seek redress through the court system if I was asked to leave.
  6. Good, now if we could just get people here to visit it on a regular basis ;)
  7. Not good...  It's almost like somebody read the book on how to get the government to over react... and the government is falling right inline.   I question how so many shots can be fired 'at' the police, yet not a single officer, vehicle or nearby item has a bullet hole in it?  I understand that gang bangers probably aren't the best shots...  but for this to be believed it takes not hitting the broad side of a barn to a whole new level.   The optics look bad no matter how you slice it...  Officers wearing camo pointing rifles directly at protesters who have their hands up in the air yelling don't shoot...   First rule when the state troopers took over.. no police officer is allowed to respond wearing anything other than standard patrol uniform...  camo/bdu's not allowed - I'm not  suggesting that shouldn't be wearing their protective gear only talking about the uniform.  No more plainclothes either...
  8. 11b only covers you buying firearms, not you keeping firearms you already own.
  9. It's standard bail conditions...  Many judges require you to turn in all firearms as a condition of bail.  Happens here in TN all the time too.
  10. Seat Belt laws are wrong...  gun safety laws are wrong...
  11. Part of the parks law, was the state didn't have to replace signs, they're supposed to change them as part of routine maintenance...  With the way the state works, that will probably be 10-20 more years.
  12. As a general rule in my book... everything is the governments fault ;)  It has the added benefit of normally being right ;)   Take a $400 a week drug habit and turn it into a $4 a week drug habit and you're talking a lot fewer crimes to feed their habit though.   Bad people will do bad things, nothing we can do will ever changes that...  we lock up those bad people and keep them separate from the rest of us...   But, how many people in your career did you arrest who were trying to steal to feed their smoking or drinking habit?  How much of our property crime is really related to cost of tobacco and alcohol?  I'd estimate it to be a very small fraction of said crime.  More importantly, when was the last time you saw Marlboro men do a drive by on Joe Camel's men over a street corner?   Maybe we trade a 10-15% increase in violent crime due to some more folks becoming addicted to drugs...  but in return we drastically reduce violent crime by moving the sale of drugs from the streets to stores, along with reducing petty and property crimes by drastically reducing the price of the product...  drastically reduce law enforcement costs, K9 units, asset seizures, questionable searches, no knock raids, shooting of family pets... etc.     It's not some utopia, those don't exist, but it's clear to any rational person that the war on drugs is much worse at this point, than the drugs themselves.
  13. Because it doesn't protect us in anyway shape or form here at home where it matters?  Nobody is going to invade this country...  the civilian population if too well armed, and if we'd repeal the Hughes Amendment we'd be ever better armed.   Here is one example of how you cut the military by a lot and not impact our ability to fight anybody who attacks us.   * With the exception of Pentagon, training commands - basic, and AIT, shutdown the entire active duty Army.  Move all the BCT of the current Active Duty Army and Reserves into the National Guard.  Remove the obvious overlaps...  Add 9-12 BCT's in addition to the Army/Reserve migration.   * Again with the exceptions of the Pentagon, NORAD/Space Command and training commands, move all Air Force, and Air Force Reserve units into the Air National Guard.  Removing all the overlapping commands.   Move dedicated CAS aircraft to the Army National Guard.  Move SIGINT/JSTAR/AWACs to the Navy, and Special Operations aircraft to JSOC/Navy.   * Double the size of the Marine Corp, closing down the Marine Corp Reserves in the process.  Move all fixed and rotary wing units to the Navy.   * Keep the Navy for the most part as is..  add 2 or 3 carrier groups to the current roster.   * Move JSOC into a true fifth branch of the military, move all JSOC attached units to that command and cutting the strings back to their home services completely, remove all overlapping training commands.   * Closed down all bases outside of US territory, create a limited number of joint bases with the Navy/Marines/host country.  The host country will provide the land/port free of charge and we'll build the infrastructure, and keep a complete war fighting package at each joint base to quickly respond to any threat.  Create 2 in Europe - Probably German/Poland and Italy/Turkey..  1 in Asia - South Korea, 1 Middle East - UEA/Qatar, 1 Africa - Djibouti, 2 Australia, 1 South America.  And no other bases Naval, or land base allowed without approval of congress.   * NG and ANG units would pull a 1 year tour at one of the above bases every 6 years to provide maintenance and security, Naval, Marine and JSOC units would be permanently stationed at these bases as well.   That closes over 900 foreign military bases, and drastically reduces the cost of the military...  and in no way shape or form reduces our ability to protect ourselves.   If we're attacked at home, we'd have plenty of training NG troops to engage the fight while we spun up military training of the civilian population..  If we were attacked here at home, but had to respond overseas, we'd have pre-positioned military assets, and a small force already in place ready to go until we could move forces from here to those bases and onto the war zone.   FYI, this plan would cut the cost of our current military by more than half.
  14. Question:  How big of a military do we need to protect us at home?   Answer: A lot smaller of a military than we'll have after these cuts.
  15. Welcome to Google Fiber... they don't even have to put it in and the other companies start increasing your speeds for free.
  16. Sounds like the next target should be de-funding MTAS?  Why do we need this group to begin with?
  17. The failed 'war on drugs' is the cause of most of our violent and property crime?   That poor urban ethnic male youths between the age of 15 and 25 cause the vast majority of said violent and property?
  18. I agree completely..  any officer who pulls their firearm out and points it at a citizen without a real and specific threat of serious bodily injury or death should be fired from the force, and be facing aggravated assault charges...   Just like you or I would if we did the same.
  19. Which IMHO is a good idea...  do you really want your wife having to worry about all that stuff when she is worried about putting you into the ground?   My will has a list of executors, my wife is #4 on that list...  so most likely she won't have to deal with that stuff.
  20. The more I've learned about Chris Kyle over the last few days, has shocked me...  he is no American hero in my book, period.   He is either a liar or a dis-respectable murderer...  He claimed to have killed more than 30 armed civilians during Katrina from a snipers nest on the top of the Superdome....  And also to shoot two would be carjackers in Texas...  both appear to be complete lies.  At least I hope neither of those incidents really happened.
  21. Just so you can watch for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU5MLcWXzfo   And my wife wouldn't have gotten sued, because she would not be the executor of my estate.  You have to keep in mind JV didn't file a lawsuit against the wife...  he had an ongoing lawsuit filed against Kyle that was working it's way through the system...  and then when he died the executor of his estate - who just happens to be his wife - was added to the lawsuit.   That is normal, it's the way our legal system works, I don't read anything into that...
  22. You make it out like JV was some type of outsider in this situation...  He is/was very much a part of the same community... JV was there giving a speech to the current BDU/S class, the owner of the bar in question was a former SEAL and service friend of JV's, and lets not forget while 'only' a frogman, JV did graduate from BDU/S himself.   But, none of that matters...  Even if you put this in the BEST light possible for Chris Kyle...  That everything Kyle said is 100% true...  He attacked an old man for talking trash, a fellow veteran, and somebody who the Navy thought enough of to invite to speak to the current BDU/S class....  and left him on the floor and ran out of there because he was drunk...     Now, people make bad choices, they let their emotions get the better of their judgement, we hope that tier 1 operators are better selected than that...  but according to Kyle himself that is what happened.  I'd hope a good man would have some regret in the cold light of day for attacking somebody over words they spoke...   But, the story doesn't end there...  he then goes and proudly proclaims in his book, how we beat up an old man for trash talking... like it was some kind of patriotic accomplishment....  somebody involved had the good sense to keep JV's name out of the book...  doubtful it was Chris Kyle.   But, that wasn't good enough...  he had to go on national TV and name the old man he assaulted?   Maybe my parents raised me better...  I've not always lived up to their expectations, there have been times I've lost my temper over words and resorted to a physical altercation...  The difference is I always felt regret over that behavior...  I for sure wouldn't go boasting in a book how that failure in self control was something to be celebrated...  And I would never attempt to further that poor choice by trying to use that altercation to belittle the person in question on national TV.   None of this excuses JV's alleged behavior that night...  I'm not here to defend his honor or dishonor that night...  he very well may have been running his mouth, and Kyle lost his temper and acted rashly...  All of that could be chalked up as a error in judgement...  boasting about it in a book, then go on national TV and publicly calling JV out...  that was just the act of a jerk, and at the very least makes him no better than JV.
  23. I'm sorry but talking bad about the military, about the President, even about Special units is now reason enough to assault somebody?  And reason enough to be proud of it?   Again, we've all lost our temper and done things we regret...  I'm just saying that if everything Chris Kyle said on TV was true... he was just as big of a dbag as JV is.
  24. I'm sorry, but I'm going to come to JV's defense here...   Even if you put Chris's statements in the best possible light....  He was bragging about a 30 year old beating the snot out of a 60 year old man in a bar fight, over words.  And then goes on multiple national news programs and brags about it.  I don't know about you... but if I as a 30 year old just lost my temper to the point I beat on an old man in a bar fight, over something the old man said....  I wouldn't go around bragging about it on national TV, I'd be too ashamed of myself.   Sure seems there might be two douche-bags in this story, not just one.
