  1. It won't be a "one time use". :shake:
  2. How would you compare this to an AK47?
  3. Sounds like a normal weekend around here.
  4. I'd suggest an AR as well. Adjustable stock, light weight, and he'll enjoy it for a lifetime. He can also add to it, or change it to his liking as the years go by.
  5. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/psa-16-stainless-mid-length-1-7-freedom-carbine.html This doesn't sound too bad if you'd prefer one already put together. Free shipping too! It'll save you some $$$ by not buying the tools to build one.            http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/deals/ar-15-sale/ptac-ar15-blackhawk-complete-lower-receiver.html $129   http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/barreled-upper-assemblies/ptac-16-mid-length-5-56mm-1-7-upper-with-bcg-and-charging-handle.html $299   There'd be one for $428 without shopping hard.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  6. Any of the cartridges you mention would be fine.   Are you set on an H&R?   Are you set on a single shot?   What's your budget?   Do you handload? If not, the 223 will be the most economical.
  7. You can get down to around $400 if you are patient and watch for sales. $500-550 and you can build one of solid quality.
  8. It doesn't sound like fun to me. Do you have any other options?
  9. Sure. I have two with only a carry handle and a frame front sight. They work fine for me. I'm accustomed to deer hunting with aperture sights, so I'm at home with irons on an ar. They don't need batteries, won't fog up, etc.
  10. It's a small ring action; sort of, but not a 98. It cocks on closing. A 98 cocks on opening. I didn't know for sure they'd take the same barrel, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.                http://www.mausercentral.com/rings.htm   According to this, it should take a standard barrel for a small ring action. I believe i'd pull the old barre l and verify this before ordering one.
  11. I'm not sure if the 93's were threaded the same as a small ring mauser or not. If so, I'd say go for it.   I paid $30 for a Spanish 93 quite a while back. I sporterized  and scoped it, and use it for a rainy day rifle. Mine still has the 7mm barrel.   Why not shoot it as is?
  12. That's one you'd want autographed.
  13. http://www.cyclemos.com/#!__index/restoration,-repair-&-maintenance Maybe a bit far west for you, but Cyclemos in Red Boiling Springs, TN does restorations. Their museum is worth a visit while you're there. At least pick up a copy of their Crash Brown DVD. He was a local celebrity and a heck of a bad example.
  14. A guy shooting a revolver through a high visibility fence while cuddling Barney. What's wrong with that?
  15. Probably not quite 3 lbs, but I can take a stone and make a passable milspec trigger.
  16. Online.
  17. I love those!
  18. I don't know about that, but hot water dries faster than cold water, therefore lessening the chance of corrosion from moisture.
  19. I'm not sure how one would swage a ball. :ugh:  It ain't that big a deal to buy another box of balls.
  20. As monkeylizard said, the State Museum in the basement of the James K. Polk building is free, and well worth seeing. You won't be too far from the Parthenon. It's worth seeing as well. I've not been in the war museum in a long while, but I remember it being interesting as well. I assume Fort Nashboro down by the river survived the flood? If so, you might wander down there and look around.   The Country Music Hall of Fame is awesome. I always love looking around and drooling at Gruhen Guitars. It's a business, but more like a museum or shrine if you like vintage guitars.
  21. I'd like to see a movie about Bass Reeves. It would be hard to do because not that much is known about him.   The Life and Times of Jelly Bryce would be interesting as well.   There are good books available about both of these legends if you care to read them.
  22. Yeah. Driving to the store to return a carton of milk doesn't seem real productive.
  23. We like shooting pool or bowling.   She might not be a redneck, however.
  24. I too think a pure lead ball, aside from being the devil to get started, would lead the crap out of your barrel at rifle velocities. They've been doing it for over 200 years; just use a .430 ball and patch.
  25. I wish morons like this had chronographs. I'd love to know how fast that bullet was going.   (eidt) I see mikegideon's program shows 3756 fps. While that's smoking, it's not as impressive as I would have hoped.
