So, I'm in the market for a similar rifle. Are there any new thoughts on the best .308 semi-auto rifle? I want great accuracy, semi-auto, .308 and sub-$1000.

What upper/lower sources did you build it from? A buddy at work is looking to do a similar build.

Guys: On the battery issue, take a look at the extracter. I had a Stainless steel Charles Daly Empire grade (same as RIA) that was a jam-o-matic when I picked it up. I never had the 1/2 cock issue, but I had return to battery & lock issues. They were remedied by tuning the extracter (see Wilson site). IMO, the Daly/RIA extracter is a major piece of crap. It is too long and very rough. I shortened & polished mine and never had any issues with brass or aluminum ammo. I know this is probably common knowledge, but the 1911 extracter design doesn't like wold ammo. The steel case is a bit too tight to close fully. Also, the dirty ammo created lots of residue that seems to pack in around the extracter. Both lead to lots of jams after a few boxes are run through it.

I like the marlin 1894s the best. The 20" barrel seems better balanced, but I agree that th 24" look better. Mine is an 1894S in 44mag w/ 20" bbl. Sights are the only thing that i do not like on mine.

That's the type of disrespect that comes from the black gun crowd. They always compare the Minis to an overpriced SKS, never a down size/priced Garand.

Minis are great, but get little respect from the black gun crowd. The main issue is lack of cheap and reliable 20rnd mags. Other issues include so so accuracy and a supposedly weak firing pin (no aftermarket replacement). Given the price and quality, they are very good carbines for the $$. Also, I had a buddy whine and cry about the poor accuracy of his mini compared to his Remington model 700 7-mm-08. I challenged him to compare open site accuracy of the two rifles. They both produced the same open site accuracy at 100yds. I will say that the mini 30s seem to shoot a little looser than the mini-14s. Other than that, they are both quite fine rifles.

They are fine plinkers. Last time I checked, ammo was a bit high compared to some other calibers. I might skip the scope to retain better balance.

i need 9mm, 5.56, 7.62x39 & .45acp. A gross of 12ga 00 buck would be nice.

Yep, I was thinking about this a few days ago. I kind of expected member list to grow rather slowly. I figured we'd pull over a few of the tennesspeed regulars, plus a few www.Tennesseeoffroad.com and www.tndeer.com guys. Looks like we've drawn in a bunch more. Also, I've been impressed by the general knowledge and lack of drama exhibited by the member base. Also, the mods and admins have done a great job in policing this board.

Probably true. I never had any jamming issues with my Glock 36. It was much more reliable that the Firestorm, Springfield and Charles Daly (armscor) 1911 that I had prior.

I have owned both. In fact, I traded my 1100 for an 11/87. I must say that the 11/87 is much superior to the 1100. I'm not a huge remington fan, but I love this shotgun. I'ts very flexible. I've never made any adjustments to mine and its never jammed on any load. Also, the fit, finish and wood quality are much better.

Guys: I sold my Glock 36 and picked up a NIB Taurus PT1911 from The Rabbi. The pistol looks to be very well made. The slide's finish looks to be very weak. You can see a number of nicks and scratches in pics below. Otherwise workmanship is MUCH better than the Springfield and Charles Daly (armscor) 1911s that I've owned in the past. ALso, I must again give the Rabbi kudos for great customer service. Aside from offering a great pistol at a great price, he opened his shop on a Sunday afternoon to accommodate my schedule (driving through town) so I could take a look at the pistol. I don't think many shops would offer such customer service these days.

I agree. The 4" is a well balanced piece. It fairly compact, but has a decent sidre radius for nice accuracy.
