People probably shouldn't get too worried...yet. I'm not convinced that what we saw yesterday was anything more than the DACA "negotiations" a couple of weeks ago. And, you see where that went. I have no doubt that the NRA is out there manning the phones this morning reminding every single member that they've contributed to that they have a list of names waiting to primary them. Yes, hard line positions are out of sync with most of the population. But, most of the population doesn't vote in primaries. That is the ground game that then NRA excels at. Trump is really a non-entity here. Sure, he'll do just about anything to move the "they like me" needle. He lacks a fundamental understanding of policy. But, he doesn't make laws - he signs them after Congress passes them. There are 535 people who have to come to consensus before you really have to worry about what Trump is going to do.

Had Obama said “take their guns first and worry about due process later” violence might have erupted and the GOP would have tripped over one another trying to vote for articles of impeachment.

Tight upper AR receivers?
MacGyver replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Will DSA not exchange it? Seems like you could mic it and send a picture and they ought to replace it. Better than getting sued later on because an out of spec receiver injured someone. -
Tight upper AR receivers?

I wonder if you could reach out to a smaller manufacturer to get them to undersize the receiver so that you need to chuck it up in the lathe and hone it to fit. -
Tight upper AR receivers?

The CMT uppers I’ve built have required cooling to get barrels in the receiver. On my .308, I think it would take a signed note from Congress to get it back out. -
To add on to this, when I hear people say this, I wonder how much time they actually spend with kids? Yes, there are some examples of people making poor choices that are amplified by social media - and a traditional media run by an older generation. I expect every generation has those. People just have more public platforms to capture their mistakes these days. But, I’ve got to say that I’m long on these kids. Some of them are among the smartest kids I’ve ever met - and with tools like have never been seen before in history. I often kind of find myself envious of what they’ve got at their disposal. The world has changed more in 50 years than it has in the last 50,000. It shouldn’t be surprising that a lot of people find themselves confused by it. But, give them a chance. Every generation has to find its way as it matures. I’ve no doubt that this one will come into its own. Their solutions won’t look like those of previous generations - but look at where those have gotten us.

But regardless of collectors value, we’d still like to see pics. -
This is the thread I was thinking of: It doesn't look like he's been on for a bit - but you could shoot him a note.

Yeah, I remember we had a member who had a plasma cutter and was going to try to give sign making a go. I'll see if I can find it.

Those are pretty.

Trump urges ban on 'bump stocks,' other gun modifiers
MacGyver replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's probably a good preview of things to come. They're going to be in the crosshairs - and they'll probably signal how they're going to respond from here. -
I saw Graham once in person - maybe around 2000. It was a neat experience. I've always appreciated his humility. So much so, that I wouldn't even rank him amongst the televangelists that came and went throughout his career. He certainly had his failings - and I've heard him reflect on learning from those. The kingdom lost a great worker today.

But don’t forget, they’re still counting on your vote later this year... -
Yes, I’ve been using the Super Slick stuff for a while. I run 30lbs. on my surf rods, and it Really does cast further.

I was PowetPro only for years until I had $300 of it in my cart one day. While it was a little thicker early on, KastKing always tested at least to it’s weight rating - and occasionally a good bit higher. Over the last year or two, they’ve improved a lot in little areas. The diameter has gone down. The color stays pretty fast. And the abrasion resistance actually seems better than PowerPro. I’d be glad to spool up one of your reels if you want to bring one by one day so you can test it out. After trying them side by side, I really don’t even think about it anymore. It’s at least the same quality in the weights I use.

I prefer braid on most of my reels because of the lack of stretch - and thus the sensitivity in feeling bites. Line twist can be a problem with braid if not managed appropriately. While I generally find good abrasion resistance with modern braid, it’s worth keeping an eye on the business end of your line and trimming as needed. I generally still tip my braid with a fluorocarbon leader. You need a different set of knots for braid - it’s slippery stuff and quite capable of cutting through itself - and you if you’re not careful.

Nobody does old school bluing better than Turnbull. I know there are more durable finishes these days - but there sure aren’t prettier ones.

I’m a little out of that range, but I went to a Lowrance EliteTi 7. After having a Hook model in the kayak and a decent Garmin on the boat, I promised myself that I’d learn to really run one. I haven’t really mastered all of the features, yet. But it’s amazing. I really can’t say enough good things about it.

I usually just order from Amazon. I try to support my local mom and pops whenever I can, but I also generally buy 1500m spools which is something they almost never stock. Incidentally, the smaller test line is the only stuff where I’ve stuck with a major manufacturer - and that’s only because I’ve not tested other stuff yet. For 20, 30, and 50 pound braid I’ve moved almost exclusively to generic KastKing brand for about 1/4 cost of PowerPro. I actually like it a little better, as it seems to have better abrasion resistance.

I love Suffix 832 ghost braid in 6#. It’s definitely my go to line for light tackle.
