  1. If you're in the Nashville area, check out Gambill Saw Mill in Smyrna.  Literally tons of raw and rough-cut lumber laying in piles all over the property, at least the last time I checked.  I used to go there once in a while in search of odds and ends for wood turning and/or furniture projects. If you check it out (I don't think they have a phone number) just go slowly up the drive until you get to the shop/house and wait a bit for someone to come out.  They're really nice folks, but you can kinda hear the music from Deliverance playing in the background, if you know what I mean.  Don't forget to negotiate if you find something you like - I've never paid the first price I was given for something.

    Happy Friday!

  3. Yeah, I like this idea!
  4. Here’s what I’d keep protected:   Tablet/smart phone and e-book, pre-loaded with Topographic maps, first-aid info, edible plant guide, etc. AM, FM, and shortwave emergency radio receiver Wristwatch Hand-held Ham Radios Flashlights and batteries Laptop computer Solar power panel (which will charge at least some of these electronics)   I understand that the phone network and internet may not work, but if the equipment itself is intact, they will still be extremely valuable resources – worth protecting if possible.
  5.   I printed the ARFCOM out, and sat down at the kitchen table with all my parts...  About 45 min later I had an AR. If I can do it, anybody can.
  6. Welcome neighbor!  (I'm in La Vergne.)  I like the Hobson Pk TWRA range too - just wish they were open the rest of the week.
  7. I saw an article about testing your Faraday cage or box by turning up the volume on your cell phone, placing it in the box, then calling it from another cell phone.  If it rings, it means that the signal is getting through, as would harmful energy.  Makes sense to me...
  8. I've been looking into this, and am on the lookout for a couple of yard-sale microwave ovens to keep on a shelf in my garage to store electronics.  Seems to me if they keep microwave energy in, they should keep EMP energy out pretty well.  Seems to be a lot of debate as to whether or not a Faraday cage/box needs to be grounded - easy enough to plug it in to ground a microwave.  I also keep a couple of the anti-static bags used for computer chips, etc in my daily carry stuff to keep any unused electronics (ham hc, kindle, etc.) in when they are not being used.    These precautions may not save everything if it hits the fan, but should help for a lower-level (and much more possible IMO) event.  I also downloaded a cool sun monitoring app for my iPhone that alerts me if big solar flares are coming - might just give me time to stuff things into a bag or microwave.
  9. These are great and I ordered a couple, but I'd like to find one a little more detailed that might include smaller roads, maybe rail lines, etc.  Anyone have any ideas?
  10. Did you do the dip, or have it done someplace?  Looks good!
  11. I liked the looks of the RI so much I ordered myself one..  I've been looking for a small backup revolver, and you sure can't beat the price.
  12. When I was riding I would just slide my edc Bianchi 82 holster from it's normal 2:30 position to about 4:30 and not give it a second thought.
  13.   Yeah, I'm watching this one too...
  14. My opinion is that the most hurtful (and best) thing anyone could do to this family and church is to completely and utterly ingore them and the funeral.  No protests, no press, no attention whatsoever paid to this vile bunch would leave them helpless to use it to further their cause.
  15. Looks like the boys and I will have a project this weekend if it rains...
  16.   OK.  I stand corrected...  Kinda.
  17.   My mistake - nothing was banned.  Where does it say though that the kids who did the bullying were told to knock it off?  Were their parents contacted?  My point is that these days our society (schools, government, 'fill-in-the-blank') too quickly looks to assign blame for things on the victim instead of the people commiting the act.    As a parent, I will advise my son not to carry a MLP backpack not because I'm afraid that he 'might have the gay', but because I don't want him making choices that set him up for ridicule or bullying.    And honestly, I really doubt that 'Tons of grown men' like My Little Pony....
  18. I've been a big fan of comics since the 60's, especially the Marvel super hero variety..  If my avatar wasn't Captain America, it would be Batman.
  19. I agree about the backpack, but still think focus should be on the behavior instead of the 'trigger'.  I remember being teased (bullied?) because I took my lunch in a paper bag instead of the cool GI Joe, etc. lunch boxes some of the other kids had - would today's school administrators be forcing me to find a lunch box?
  20. I wouldn't really want my boys carrying a 'My Little Pony' backpack, but since when do we ban bullying 'triggers' instead of the actual bullying?
  21. Wonder if anyone will demonstrate at his funeral....
  22. Yep..  Most of them.
  23. I watched it for a few minutes - I think they're deleting comments as fast as people can post them..  (Probably) overheard in the store: "Quick, everybody have everyone you know like this so we don't look so bad!"
  24. I think this guy got the verdict he deserved, but now he just needs to go away quietly.
  25. Now I know why my son has been asking for a quad...
