  1. I'm facinated by these guns and would love to have one in my collection. There is a lot I don't understand about them though. I somehow seemed to deduce that you can't just go and buy a new one, you have to build it? Is that true? Also, it looks like there are tons of parts on the Internet for them and it seems confusing. There are uppers, lowers, stripped lowers, springs, thingamabobs, doo-hickeys, etc. Some can be bought directly, some have to be FFL. It also seems that you can spend about as much on one as your bank account can feed it. What would be a good starting price for a very basic model that could be added on to later? Can somebody make it simple for me?
  2. Just a few days ago I discovered that if you double-click the round, three hole icon next to the forum name, it will mark that forum read. I'm like you, there are a few forums I don't read, so I just mark them read, then click the new posts link. Cuts my reading down a few pages.
  3. I've got the 22/45 with the 5-1/2" barrel. I love it! It's really accurate, and the ammo is waaay cheaper than anything else you can shoot. I bring it along anytime I go to the range. It makes my range time a lot longer. We usually take turns alternating between the bigger guns and this .22. However, it is a beast to take apart. I heard horror stories about how difficult it was. I thought to myself, I'm a reasonably smart guy, I can read and follow the directions. Well either I'm not as smart as I thought (very likely) or the instructions are very difficult to follow. They go something like pull cation back, remove magazine, Pull lever, pull triger, insert magazine, pull trigger, remove magazine, turn screw, insert magazine, puull lever, remove magazine, pull action, remove doohickey, insert magazine, and on and on and on. I couldn't remember where I was in the instructions. From now on, I'm going to clean as much as I can through the ejection port and end of barrel. I'll take it apart once a year or so for a thorough cleaning.
  4. Musicman, do most homeowner's policies cover damage that may be done to your neighbor's property during a shooting. For instance, say an intruder breaks into my home, I pop off a few rounds, and one goes through my door and into my neighbor's car, house, etc. Would most policies cover their damages? Thanks, for a great thread!
  5. I called them last month because they raised my bill by $9. I said "What can you do to keep me from looking at the Direct TV web site tonight"? They gave me Digital Cable TV, Phone, and Internet for $99 for one year. I told them I really didn't need the phone since we have been using cellular only for a year, so that wasn't a big deal for me. So they threw in HBO too. Add my HD and DVR and I'm about $1 less than what I was paying before they raised my rate, so it's pretty much a wash. But the point is I didn't get my bill raised. Also, does anyone else think that the DVR is the best thing since hollowpoint cartridges? I don't think I can watch TV without it anymore. I usually goof off for about the first 15 minutes of a program now while pausing the show, then fast forward through the commercials. I can record shows without having to worry about a tape. It's just awesome.
  6. Ah, yes. I'm familiar with the practice, just didn't know what it was called. Thanks for clearing that up.
  7. Please excuse my ignorance, but what does this mean?
  8. I just carry a Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40-Watt range
  9. OK, thanks. They change those proposed bills so often I can't keep up.
  10. Just curious, how much was the AR?
  11. The "Guns in Bars" title is a scare tactic. I think the bill actually states that it will be unlawful to cary in a place that makes 51% or more of its proceeds from selling alchohol. So you actually won't be able to carry in what most people consider a "Bar". What it really boils down to is that sheeple are afraid to be sitting next to someone who may be carrying a gun. What is really funny if you think about it, is that it is totally legal right now to carry into any McD's. HCP holders are no more likely to start blasting away here than say an Applebee's. I can guarantee more people carry in McD's than any place that serves alchohol.
  12. I love my XD. If you get in the habit of puting your thumb on the back of the slide to prevent it from racking as you hoster it, the grip safety automatically disengages. Lesens the chance of a ND. It's just one more safety feature I love about this gun.
  13. Maybe they will replace the pulley wires too. Every time I go there it seems like someone's wire breaks and their target falls to the floor. They have to shut down the range and send someone out to retie it. If you look at the wires, you see knot after knot where they've done a quick fix-up. One night it happened three times. Got a little old.
  14. Just got mine and it took me exactly 8 weeks. Oddly, my son turned his in a week after me and got it back a week before. Someone suggested, in my case, that with the Christmas holidays and government closings, they get behind. You can call and check on the status during weekdays. I think this is the number I used: (615) 253-5221 866-849-3548 (toll-free)
  15. Man, I have been wanting this one for a while. My folks live on the other side of the Smokey Mtns. and I'm not leagally allowed to carry while traveling on 441.
  16. "I'm moving to Montana Soon, Gonna be a Dental Floss Tycoon" Show your age and tell me the author
  17. I bought a box of Winchester White Box Hollow Points for SD carry. They were fairly inexpensive. Did I get what I paid for, or is this an acceptable round?
  18. I have a cousin in PA with one of those cameras. He's always sending cool pics of wildlife. A couple of times he has snapped pics of bears. Pretty cool until you remember the camera is in his back yard.
  19. I have been carrying my XD-9 without one in the chamber, but that is because I just got my HCP a few weeks ago and I wanted to get comfortable with carrying, holstering, handling, etc. I think I have built up enough muscle memory, and built some good habits that I am ready to go hot.
  20. Interestingly, citizens do not have the right to vote for President and Vice President. Article 2, Section 1 says that the states will appoint Electors, the same number as the total of the state's Senators and Representatives. Then Ammendment 12 says those Electors choose the President and VP. It's really left up to each indivual state to decide how they select Electors. It just so happens that all of the states use popular votes of the Citizens. If a state wanted to, it could appoint Electors any way they choose, such as allowing the Governor to appoint them, or holding a vote by people who's first name is Joe, or whatever hair-brained idea they could come up with. Of course, the Citizens do elect other officials. If a state came up with a crazy method of selecting Electors, whoever came up with and approved the ide would be elected out. However, the 17th Ammendment specifially says the People will elect Senators. Now, think about this.. If I'm a lazy bum and would rather sit at home collecting welfare than go to work each day, who am I going to vote for? Obviously the person that will protect my government paycheck. I have not paid any taxes that fund welfare, every other hard working citizen has. Why should I get to have a vote in picking out the person who decides how that money is spent?
  21. So, the Gov't allows you to have this right, but then denies you that right on their property. I was hoping that this law would benefit those of us that work in Oak Ridge.
  22. Our local WM went up too. I paid $18.50 for a 100 box of 9mm, and <choke> $30 for a 100 box 0f .380 for my wife's gun. Instead of reloading, I'm just going to get my wife a 9mm. That'll cut my ammo costs in half. On that note, can somebody please tell me why .380 is so darn expensive? It's got less powder and lead than my 9mm's, but costs waaay more. I know they aren't as common and that makes the cost go up some. But nearly double? I've also been wondering is there anything cheaper than 9mm, but got more kick than a .22?
  23. Gee, you can't think of one single good reason to carry a gun in the park?
  24. I know what you mean. I don't understand the whole "Tolerence" thing. True tolerance would tolerate someone else's intolerance. Yet, what most of these types mean by tolerance is that we must tolerate their way of thinking. We are obviously wrong, and too ignorant to know it. Then, not only must we accept their thinking, we must embrace it and make it out own.
