  1. I wonder how crabby most of us would be after a couple of volunteer Saturdays.
  2. This is an old thread. Didn't the OP pass away a couple years ago?
  3. Maybe they don't like spinners, or maybe you just encountered a dumba$$. My goal is a range behind the house. Can't do that now... may accidentally hit that barking dog. I understand all the rules at Stones River, and put up with them because they accomplish something.
  4. May remain a mystery forever. I would think that they would require all trajectories to be into the berm. Sounds like the other guys wasn't doing that either.
  5. Maybe that angle would allow your bullets to clear the berm?
  6. If you want outdoor scenery... Sedona. the Grand Canyon is cool too. IMO, best from a chopper.
  7. My HCP instuctor took me thru several of those drills before we went to the actual qualification. His point... it's likely that those skills will be helpful in a real encounter.
  8. From what I've heard and read, we have our very own Tard range in Middle Tennessee
  9. It's one of the published rules. Loaded guns on the firing line only. I left my carry gun in the truck. That rule doesn't bother me either. They're just trying to keep the place safe, not dis a permit holder.
  10. I had a model 36 around the same vintage back in the '70's. The official word was NO +P, but they never broke the gun. The folks I knew at the time practiced mostly with standard pressure, and carried +P. That's what I did.
  11. It's on the sign out front... Hunter Education Center. In defense of the RSO's, you never know when somebody is going to do something totally stupid (unsafe). When that goober shot himself last year, they had to deal with the fallout. Since it's state sponsored, they're much more vulnerable to anti-gun sentiment than any private range. Any time you give someone the title of "Officer", there's the possibility that it could go to their head a little. It's also possible that they can get crabby after a day of dealing with idiots. It has been my experience that if you follow the rules, they leave you alone. If I encounter an occaisional butthead, I don't blame the facility. The only butthead I've encountered is the range nazi. I don't CARE what he thinks about my gun, even if he's right . I would prefer something like Owl Hollow. I'm sure I'll go when time permits. I wish it was only a 5 minute drive.
  12. Because when you're changing lanes, someone can wind up downrange of you as you're moving. Sounds like one of those rules that came from practical experience.
  13. I just left there. Jenny was totally cool, and even helped my girlfriend (first time pistol shooter) with her grip. I even heard her explian why they want you to point the muzzle shraight up while changing lanes. Even got a grin from her when my girl moved from the P22 to the 1911 in the first five minutes. We shot the rifle range for awhile, and then moved over to handgun. All of the RSO's were nice. They're just pretty stern about the rules. Great experience today, and another leftie chick ruined for life
  14. The range Nazi doesn't think anybody should use a rest. Real men shoot off hand. I shoot anything (even .22's) on a rest until it's dialed in, and if it has significant recoil, I use a lead sled. BTW... I have had a few RSO's (including the range nazi) tell me that you have to qualify to get on the 200 yard tubes... 3 shot group into the 10 ring at 100 yards. My bolt guns will do that all day.
  15. From what I've read, it may be. i plan to check it out one day
  16. I agree. I would prefer a more relaxed experience. It's 3 miles from by house, so I'm more inclined to put up with it. Their personality changes somewhat when it's only 4 or 5 experienced shooters on the line. I won't do the waiting list. If it's that packed, I just try another time.
  17. I've thought about taking my chrony out there, but never have. They're pretty much 15 minutes live, and 5 minutes cold. Probably better off throwing on some body armor and going to Cheatham for that
  18. I have the same one. looked at all of them before I bought.
