  1. Unfortunately, if any HCP holder would have pulled a weapon, the thugs would have claimed THEY were in fear of their lives and were only defending themselves.
  2. Not according to Model 1. Magazines seem to be the issue. I am still researching, but aftermarket mags seem to work fine.
  3. I have a craving for a 7.62x39 upper. I have been shooting my SKS lately, and got to thinking about an AR platform. I know I could probably get an AK for the same, or even less, than the upper, but I like the versatility of being able to change uppers to use both .223 and 7.62. I have read that there were some feed issues with the 7.62 at first, but this seem to have been corrected. Anyone have any thought or advice?
  4. If it was in my yard, I would talk to the kid the next time I saw him. Tell him to keep out of my yard, period. If dad then asks what beef I had with his kid, I would tell him.
  5. I got into an accident in Knoxville last Friday on my way home. Five car pile upon 40 right in front of me, car swerves into my lane to avoid the one in front of him. I swerved to median and hit a truck who had done the same. Cracked my radiator, otherwise I could have driven home. Anyway, once officer arrives (took awhile due to clearing bigger accident that caused mine), my wife and I both discretly handed him our licenses and HCP. He handed the HCPs back and said "I'm glad to see that." Never asked where the weapons were or anything. Honestly, about as uneventful as I could have imagined.
  6. The 27 is too short for me. I figured I would need all my fingers to tame the recoil. The 22 had more room on the grip than the 23, but the 23 felt better. So far, I am pretty happy.
  7. I recently asked about choosing between the G22 and 23. The majority said go for the G23 due to the versatility of being able to carry it. I went to handle both and was surprised at how close they were in size. I was able to get all fingers on each, but the G23 felt a little better. I picked the G23 mainly due to it only having a few rounds shot through it. It also felt like my G30 and fits the same holster.I got to the range last weekend and ran about 100 rounds through it with no issues. Recoil is stout, but really no more than my G30. I could tell a difference between Winchester Ranger and WWB though. About the only thing I noticed is my trigger finger was a little sore, like it was rubbing the edge of the trigger wrong. I didn't see anything, but I had a sore spot on my finger for about an hour afterwards.I am also considering a 357SIG barrel for it. Mostly just to have more ammo options (and a reason to buy more ammo).
  8. Some people buy used to avoid officially linking the gun to themselves. I was at an auction where people bid pistols up to at least 20% over the cost of new. One guy balked at paying when he found out the auction company needed his address.
  9. These were Gen3 pistols. I knew the Gen4s were different and had the different backstraps. That's why I was so surprised by the difference in the Gen3 grips.
  10. Does anyone know if the RTF Glock frames are shaped any different than the normal frame? I held an RTF G23 and a regular G23 and the RTF dropped into my hand like it belonged there. The regular frame felt fine, but I could not believe the difference could only be due to the texture on the frame.
  11. I have been looking for a 40S&W for awhile now. My wife used to carry a CW40, but moved to a SR9c due to hand strength issues. The Kahr has been sold. In order to have something to shoot up the ammo stock I have, I am looking for a 40 for me. I have it narrowed down to Glock or XD. As usually happens, I now have a chance for a Glock 22 and a Glock 23. No, getting both is not an option. I have a carry weapon, so I don’t really need another. I am not really planning to use this for IDPA, at least not as a primary shooter. It will be a nightstand gun, maybe a truck gun, maybe a “stick in my pocket for a quick run to the store†gun. The G23 is $25 more than the 22. The 22 has a 3.5lb trigger. Both have been shot less than 100 rounds. They come with all the factory items. I need help deciding which one is the better deal, and which one is better overall. I expect this to be subjective, but I really don’t know which way to go.
  12. Check out the Jonesboro flea market on Sundays. There is a leatherworker there who does great work. He sets up near the barn. I have gotten several belts from him. They are thick and really hold up well. I also use a Kholster IWB, which improved carry when I had a weak Wal-mart belt. Combined, I can carry all day and hardly know it is there.

    kel tec pf-9

I got a P11 first becasue I thought I needed the extra rounds it carries. I still carry it some, but since I got the PF9 I use that almost all the time. I like it better then the P11 due to being thinner, less weight, and has a better trigger. Not stellar, but usable. It really is a pocket pistol for me. As for shooting, I have yet to have a failure of any kind. It is not a range gun, but is fine for 20 rounds or so at a time to keep it working. I did add a rubber Limbsaver grip, but have not shot it yet to see how muich difference it makes.
  14. I have never had the auto issue, but I have had light strikes. I think it is more an ammo issue for me. Monarch ammo only fired about 50% of the time. WWB and Federal are fine. I am going to try to clean the striker though.
  15. Check the traffic flow at the times you would normally be leaving or coming home. Leave your current location early enough to go by the prospective house, then drive to work from there. Also, find stores, gas, banks, and whatever else you will normally be doing, and drive around. As for the inspection, the inspector works for you, so ask questions and listen as they go through the house. Don't worry about paint color or wallpaper. That is easily changed. Pay attention to smells, especially if it is perfumey. Cat urine is tough to get rid of, and the perfume could be trying to hide something. Get preapproved for a loan. It gives you a budget, as well as leverage when you are looking as you pretty much already have the loan. I would also suggest you not max out based on what the bank will loan you. I was approved for more than I felt comfortable spending, so set my personal budget lower. We were able to get the house at a good deal lower than the asking price because I was preapproved.

    Serial number

Thanks all. It turned out to be a non-issue. As mentioned, he called the manufacturer and found out no recalls were issued, so he never needed the serial number. Great idea bajabuc, that can be used for quite a few things.

    Serial number

Is there any reason to not give out a serial number on a weapon? I am working a deal, and the guy asked for the serial number on mine to call the manufacturer to see if there are any recalls on it. Am I being scammed, or is this a legitimate request?
  18. I cannot agree that the ends justify the means. He did survive, and no one got hurt, but there are so many things that should have been done better. It looks like he was not chambered, and when he racked the slide he dropped the mag. Carrying chambered or not is a choice, but practicing racking the slide without dropping the mag is a no-brainer. I also don't see how he could possibly see where he was shooting at least half the time. I know this sounds like armchair quarterbacking, but this guys needs a lot more practice. I hope I never get into one of these situations, but if I do I expect my practicing to come through.

    Shooting question

I am right eye dominant and left handed. I never really noticed it being a problem, probably becasue I never knew any better.
  20. I am seeing something similar. My FNP is failing to return to battery about 10% of the time with my current load. I am going to go up in powder grains because factory ammo has worked fine.
  21. Did you try your loads in the FNP? I have found they like near the maximum load in order to cycle reliably.
  22. My daughter is attending UTC and had some car trouble. She made it to school OK, but it will need a little work. Anyone willing to recommend a good repair shop? Thanks

    IDPA Caliber

As far as IDPA, decide why you are doing it. If it is to win, take the gun that gives you the biggest advantage. That could be capacity or caliber, or whatever you shoot best, preferably all three. If you are going so you can learn how to react in high stress situations, take your carry gun.

    Chinese SKS

Try SKSboards.com for everything there is to know about the SKS. I am still looking for a nice shooter Norinko and a paratrooper.
  25. The P-series Rugers are great pistols. They may not be pretty, but they are tanks that will pretty much run forever.
