  1. Sorry I missed this. My dad came in and I think would have liked it, but just didn't feel up to the drive.
  2. dunn... Did you have your pistol in your left hand and pointed at the door? I'm left handed too, but practice a lot with my right just for this kind of situation. I can't get my left hand turned to point at someone if they were standing right next to my door, and not at all if they were behind me. If I did fire, I think I would break my wrist. I have thought about this a lot because I do a lot of driving. About the best thing I have come up with is to carry a second gun for the console/ door pocket/ seat side. But that leaves one in the vehicle when I get to my destination, or I have to carry two. So, I don't have a real good solution to vehicle carry. Maybe that XD mount would work....
  3. You've proven to yourself (or at least started to) that your "8" mags work with the ammo you plan to use. Just because Glock changed something to correct a perceived problem does not mean you should avoid the corrected issue. That's the point of making the correction, so that it will no longer be a problem. I say run more rounds through your mags of choice, whatever it takes for you to be confident in reliability, then use it like you originally intended. I also agree to keep the "5" mag somewhere else.
  4. I was born in Belleville, which has the same problems as Cahokia. Last year I drove by the places I grew up in and wouldn't even think of living there now. I also won't drive through those areas again . At least my parents live in the country with good neighbors and dogs, so they are better protected than most. My dad even thought about moving here since he can't carry, but my mom won't leave. As for what to do, carpet bombing comes to mind.
  5. Honestly, there are arguments on both sides. Some say you should have a completely stock weapon for your carry, so that no one can say you were "planning" for action. Others say you should do everything possible to be ready and able to defend yourself. I like a laser because I think it will help me get and stay on target if I have to employ my weapon. The laser does not take the place of good handling and aiming practices, but it can give you a split second edge in final target acquisition. Whatever you decide, you must still practice. Otherwise, everything you have, including your weapon, is a waste of money.
  6. I have a laserlyte guide rod laser I like a lot. I have a crimson trace on a keltek that is nice. It has the grip activation button, which makes it easy on and off. Overall, it is a good addition for a carry weapon.
  7. nysos has it right Make sure you call the police first, you want to be the first 911 call if the other guy is wounded/runs away - make sure they know you are the victim. It looks really bad if you wait around 10-15 minutes to call 911 and the other guy has already called saying YOU are the bad guy and he is the victim. Soon as you get off the phone with 911 contact a lawyer. When police arrive: "I was scared for my life" , "I thought he was going to kill me", "I am willing to cooperate in the investigation, but I do not want to give any statements until I have legal counsel present" Point out evidence, point out any witnesses - aside from that, don't offer up any statements as to detailed information of what happened leading up to the event. The worst thing you can do is to say absolutely nothing, evidence could be overlooked if the person you had to shoot/shoot at ditched their weapon and the investigating officers overlook it. Massad Ayoob also suggest stating that you want to file a complaint against the other person (assuming they are just wounded/ran off). Ayoob says you need to get out in front of the investigation. If you clam up and let others do the talking, you are leaving your freedom in someone else's hands. These may be unbiased witnesses, or they may be remaining friends of the BG. That is not to say you should blab all over the place, but you need to get the facts out right away, and provided as much information as necessary to tilt the favor in your direction. LEOs are human, and they will become biased based on their perception, no matter how professional they are. Get out in front with relevent information, make sure they know you are the good guy and this was justified, then get your lawyer.
  8. 1976 CJ7, 304/TF999/ twin stick D300, wagoneer D44s, 35" TSLs, spring over with YJ springs and some other stuff. I flopped right after this photo. Flipped it back up and drove the rest of the day. The wife's 91 YJ, 4.0/Ax-15/ NP231, 33" ProComps, 4" BDS lift, and some other stuff.
  9. Agree on the Kahr. I had a CW 45 and it handled very well. It was before I started loading, so can't speak to that. I also know their customer service is top notch based on an issue with my wife's CW40. I have not had a Sig P250, but have read several negative comments.
  10. The ammo is cheap enough that I don't worry about reloading it. I like the brass cases better, even though the steel is probably fine. I am stocking up on Yugo as there isn't much left. It also is very accurate. As for Russian vs. Chinese, that is a matter of preference. The Russians have a reputation for accuracy. The Chinese are cheaper. I do think the russian is more accurate, but the Chinese is no slouch. The Russian will continue to be worth more.

    SKS Tech Sights

The tech sights are a great addition. They do hold zero after cleaning. I would also get the narrower front sight as well. That or you can turn the existing sight down some. Once you get the tech sight on, the front post looks much larger and obscures the target some.

    Best SKS?

They say the Russian is the best, but they are also the most expensive ($400). The Yugos are good, and mine is very accurate. They are running about $350. The Norincos (Chinese) are the most common and run $250-300. If you are going to shoot surplus ammo (corrosive) I would not go with the Yugo. They do not have a chromed barrel, and the gas system is more involved to clean. Otherwise, any of the three will be fine. BTW, the prices are for numbers matching, everything in place, including the bayonette, and good condition. Look for cosmoline in the bolt, etc. If is a clue it may not have been shot much. There is also a Romanian version which some say is better than the Russian. Prices are the same as the Russian. Check out Survivor's SKS forum for a good tutorial.
  13. I saw some today for the first time. It was $3 cheaper per box than the Critical Defense.
  14. Yes, it was at TAC2. The "baby" was a plastic jug filled with rocks. You weren't allowed to drop it when you had to reload. Doc usually has some fun things. He also has some "specials" in the winter to keep people coming. Also, I agree on just coming out and shooting. I thought about watching the first time too, but they said just come on. I'm glad I did, and I still look forward to it. Just bring ammo and be prepared to spend a few hours shooting stuff.
  15. Shot an IDPA match yesterday. One of the stages was a zombie run through about 16 targets, with only head shots counting. Oh, and you also had to carry a baby.
  16. Anyone familair with the Maple Creek lane area of East Ridge? I'm asking in relation to safety, crime, etc. Someone I know is looking for an apartment and found one in that area. Thanks
  17. There are a few issues, but the thing that jumps out at me is leaving the 642 in your pocket without knowing it. I think you need to tighten up on your control of your weapons. Just because you have no untrained people in your house doesn't mean they are immune to accidents. Someone could have thrown those pants into the washer, then dryer. I'm not sure if you have a safe, but leaving your weapon on the dresser means it is gone in a robbery.
  18. There is no restriction from them doing so, but they may not actually do it. It's best to ask the specific FFL if they will accept from non-FFLs. Some will and some won't.

    Kel-Tec PF9

I don't think the PF9 is particularly bad to shoot, but you do need to hold on to it. If you are planning to shoot a couple hundred rounds every week, get something else. I shoot a box every month or two just to keep everything going, but no long range sessions. I have a lasermax which clips to the trigger guard and activates when you wrap your fingers around the grip. Very effective, and you can turn it off or on by your grip. Trigger pull is long but not difficult to master. I do use a pocket holster through.

    The next gun...

Don't focus only on the sub-compact models either. the grip is just too small for me, so I stay in the compact range. YMMV. I also second the SR9c. I carried one before my wife took it.
  21. I don't think it is just the extra capacity mags. You also get one more mag, as well as a longer barrel. Ultimately it is your choice, but I think the price is comparable based on the differences between what you get. I have had two FNP-45s. The first had no issues, but I traded it away. The second had a return to battery issue, which FN gave me a new pistol in return. I wound up selling that one recently. For some reason I still have a hankering to get another. As for size, the FN is a big gun but not unwieldy. It shoots well, is very accurate, but is not for concealment. I have no experience with the M&P, but have held one. The FN felt better in my hand.
  22. My experience was very different than yours. My wife had an issue with the barrel on her CW40. She sent it in and essentially got a complete new upper. I would make another call to Kahr and tell them you are unhappy and they need to make it right.
  23. I thought one of the purposes of a pocket holster is to cover the trigger guard to keep from accidental firing? P3AT — DeSantis Holster
  24. My parents are in IL, so I go there fairly often. Keep the gun unloaded and in a case. The manufacturer's case counts. I have not been stopped (yet), but I keep the case in the rear storage area. The ammo is in the console. IL can be a pain, but follow their rules and you should be fine.
