  1. I think the contact immunity thing only works if you stay in contact, as the viruses continue to change. And individuals have very different immune systems. To illustrate... Mom was a teacher for a long time. At first, she was sick all the time. Over time, her immunity built up and she rarely had more than the sniffles. Now that she's been retired for a few years, she gets sick much more often. My wife rarely gets sick. When she does, it's just the sniffles for a few days. When I get sick, it hits me like a hammer... massive congestion, in bed for a day or two, sinus infections, 2 week recovery. Our older son seems to have gotten my immune system... colds hit him pretty hard, lots of congestion, cough, etc. Our younger son seems to have gotten my wife's immune system... he's sniffly for a few days and that's about it. That said, we typically get the flu shot. The folks that say the flu shot is bad for you rarely produce any real data to support their claim. They use scary words like mercury, aluminum, and ethlyene glycol, but never say how much or why that's bad. We've never had any sort of adverse reaction to it, but some people do.
  2. I got one on sale for $40 at JCPenny's a couple years ago. It's more a "field coat" style than mechanic's style, but it's held up quite well. As for online stuff... can't go wrong with Carhart, Cabela's, LLBean, Landsend, ... Having just looked, Cabela's has some pretty good stuff on sale. If I needed one, I get this without hesitation.
  3. I'm not allowed to post pictures, but I work at a place that fixes these.... I use stuff that looks like these... I have a friend that works with you...
  4. Hookers and blow.
  5. I find it amusing. They (player, ref's, commentators, NFL employees, etc.) go on and on about how it's about love for the game. Except when it's about money. When money is on the line, they'll gladly screw anyone and everyone for a few extra $$. It's also really nice to see these grown men who like to present themselves as professionals (the players & coaches) acting like a bunch of 6th graders in a sand lot game. The scuffles, the trash talk.... nice professionalism.
  6. A basic hand tool kit. Stuff is gonna break, be ready to fix it.
  7. Congrats and good shooting. My wife took (and passed) her class saturday as well. I took the class in February at an outdoor range. The pistol portion of the range was back in a 'holler' and it was 29 deg with no direct sun. We had to leave all our stuff in the car during the classroom portion so everything cold soaked. Cold steel on a cold day. Brrrr...
  8. As mentioned, the mini-gun from Predator. The Shotgun in the first Expendables. Yes, excellent books. I liked the movie too.
  9. I had a box turtle as an unofficial pet when I was a kid. Found him in the back yard (big-ish wooded area behind our house) and named him Henry. Fed him veggie table scraps, crickets, and worms. He hung around the whole summer but disappeared for the winter. I found him again the next spring and decided to paint an "H" on his shell to make sure it really was the same turtle. Again, he hung around through the summer and disappeared in the winter. Didn't come back the next spring. A few years later, I found his shell while playing in the woods.
  10. Welcome. And you might want to change that to "no caliber too big".
  11. If they were playing in the street on a busy street I can certainly see the cop giving her a lecture, but arresting her? There must be more to the story. My kids are 4 and 2 and they play outside while I'm working in the garage/yard. I do not have eyes on them every second. My ears give me a good idea of where they are and what they're doing. I do check on them frequently. The older one knows to stay in the yard (and does, for the most part) and the younger one just follows his big brother around. I only worry when it gets quiet.
  12. Maybe if you wear those nifty velcro seamed warm-up pants like basketball players (or strippers) do...
  13. Interesting. Seems that this instance and another instance linked within indicate this is mostly a concern if you open carry. If you concealed carry, you'd have to move the garment out of the way to reholster, greatly reducing the chances of the drawstring doodad getting caught. Assuming this is your outer (cover) garment.
  14. Good stuff. My 4 yr old wears a kid sized backpack when we go hiking. Either it's empty or has his kiddie binoculars in it. I don't want him to get tired carrying any real weight. He enjoys the novelty of it. I look forward to teaching him more stuff as he gets a little older.
  15. Cool. Yes, I checked his math. Yes, I'm a nerd. Now, if only we could figure out how to get Strasburg to do this at their next home game... While googling for a nifty picture to illustrate this point I found this pic, which I thought was quite cool.... http://talklikeaphysicist.com/category/motionless-monday/
  16. Get a little gas saving beater for those quick trips when you don't need 10,000 tow capacity.
  17. They're fine. A friend has a couple (bought as pieces and assembled) and has had no issues.
  18. What they said.... surf the water sports rack at your local sporting goods/outfitter place. I would look for something that will float with all your stuff inside. I don't think there's any danger cliff diving, etc. with the gun as long as it's in some sort of holster that covers the trigger. If you hit something hard enough to cause problems with the gun, you've likely got bigger problems. Keep in mind that if the gun is crammed in a pouch with a bunch of other stuff, you won't be able to access it in a hurry.
  19. Might look up this guy, if he doesn't chime in... http://www.tngunowne...ttle-of-athens/ More info here: and here:
  20. If it's "cheap Pakistan" you won't find out what type it is without a mass spectrometer. Here's some pretty good info on knife steels... http://zknives.com/knives/articles/knifesteelfaq.shtml
  21. Got a bottle of this while on vacation a couple weeks ago. Flavor exactly as described on the bottle and was good for sipping, but it didn't mix well for whatever reason.
  22. Off topic... but unless you guys are midgets, that's a BIG horse. I've seen Belgian's before but wow! He's a biggun!
  23. Grit blasting is probably the easiest way. You can get similar results with etchants (acids), but you need to know exactly what steel you've got.
  24. Tragic for sure. Anyone else notice this...? hmmmm.
  25. We can't do that. We might actually .... um.... win.
