  1. I have a Sheild and the 7rd mag will lock open reliably on the last round but the 8rd not so much. I carry the 8rd as the spare mag so I'm not to concerned with it. I would first look to see if your holding down the slide lock with your thumb in recoil though. Kurt
  2. Try burning a piece of twisted up masking tape.
  3. This is correct, but it is very rare that if you use published data for a semi auto round that it will not cycle and eject. Sometimes I will load below published starting data (target loads for competitions) these I will need to work around with springs. With revolvers you will also need to be concerned with the size of the cylinder throat and angle of the forcing cone, these two things will have a bearing on what bullets will work good and shoot accurately. I have no trouble loading for a semi auto or revolver, they both have their pluses and minuses, as long as you know what they are everything will work fine.
  4. I will have to disagree with people that reloading for a revolver is easier than reloading for a auto.   I would say that you have many more options (bullet style, velocity) when loading for a revolver than with a auto, but that doesn't mean its easier.   With revolver ammo I usually use a Roll crimp, with a Roll crimp you have to be concerned with the length of the brass to make sure it is consistent. This means at some point you will need to trim cases to get a consistent crimp, I hate trimming cases!   With Semi auto ammo and using a taper crimp this is not nessesary.   Kurt
  5. Is there a large and small metering insert for the Hornady powder measure? If so which one are you using?
  6. I load 45acp until the case splits, then I throw it away. Kurt
  7. Isn't it sad that getting your hands on 3 50rd boxes of 22lr is post worthy.......but it is !
  8. Thanks for the heads up, ordered a few lbs of Bullseye. At first glance it seems kind of high priced but when you figure in the no shipping and no Hazmat fee it's not to bad. Kurt
  9. How's the trigger? The last few I've looked at had pretty darn good triggers. I have an ORM 1991 and it needed a little trigger work to be acceptable. Kurt
  10. What caliber are you loading for and what bullet are you using ?
  11. There is more than you would think, the fact remains it still starts life as powdered metal but is processed different because of the application. Heck the compressor and turbine blades are cast, we all know how people use to scream about that when they started to see cast 1911 frames. This is from a Powder metallurgy fact sheet: -Strategically important to products such as automobile engines and transmissions, aircraft turbine engines, riding lawn mowers, surgical instruments, power tools, oil/gas well drilling equipment and off-road tractors. -Commercial aircraft engines contain 1,500-4,400 pounds of PM superalloy extruded forgings per engine.
  12. I think they call it powdered or sintered metal in turbine engine manufacturing . Some of the compressr discs are made this way. I'm sure it's much more high tech than a firearm part, but the theory is the same.
  13. That's exactly where I was going, and don't even think about flying, jet engines are full of MIM.
  14. Pictures when you get it please. Kurt
  15. Your brave, I'd be afraid to wait. if I had the money that would be in my cart! Kurt
  16. Did you order it yet? I just got a notice from Grabagun for $599 after rebate. Kurt
  17. The two higher end 1911's that I have aren't quite in the $3000 dollar range more the $1500-$2000. They were both built for a specific type of shooting (bullseye) and both came with test targets that are 2 inches or less at 50 yards. So for my money I got accuracy or at least the gun is, if I shoot a 6 or 7 I know it was me and not the guns fault. Also there is a different feel to the guns, I think it has to do with all of the hand fitting. It's hard to explain but if you pick up a Les Baer or Rock River like I have you will notice the difference. Kurt
  18. Well for one the LB and RR cost 3 times as much, I thought we were comparing pistols in the $679 Price range. Kurt Ps: That's a Rock River Arms not a Rock Island Armory I'm talking about.
  19. That's just wrong, you are assuming that everybody wants what you want in a 1911 and that's just not true. The sights on the 1991 I consider good for an entry level 1911 and that's what this is, not everyone needs or even wants a beaver tail grip safety and every Colt I've shot has had acceptable accuracy for what it is, not on par with my Les Baer or Rock River but good. This is not a collectors piece, it's a shooter. Buy it, shoot it, enjoy it and hand it down to your children. Kurt
  20. All of the1911 manufacturers do it just a little different and that's where all of the Ford vs Chevy comes in. You can get more options with other makers i.e. Springfield, Kimber but that doesn't make them better, just different. It all comes down to what you want in a 1911, sometimes you won't know until you own and shoot one for a while. What I do know is that no mater how many 1911's I have, I wouldn't be happy if I didn't atleast have one Colt. The 1991 is a good solid 5" 1911 with the prancing pony on the slide, Love it or hate it Colt is still the oriiginal. Kurt
  21. I thought $679 was pretty darn good for a Colt. I can think of a few that may be as good but not better at that price, In your opinion what is better? Kurt
  22. I'm not sure the cases are your problem, I load all different head stamps and I load them until the case cracks then through them out. What is your crimp die set to, I usually crimp to .469 -.470. Kurt
  23. I have that Warren setup on my G17 and really like it. I like the way it's scalloped on the sides, it gives a better view of the target. Koz
